Ex Deo Drops Off PaganFest
Battle metallers Turisas will be heading back to North America this spring for "PaganFest: America Part III," their first-ever U.S. headlining run. Joining the Finnish sextet on their triumphant return to the States is a gathering of bands from across the world: Scotland's Alestorm, Russia's Arkona, and U.S. act Huntress. Ex Deo has now dropped-off the tour, and in regards to the band's departure from PaganFest, Maurizio Iacono comments:
"It is with deep disappointment that I am obliged to pull EX DEO off this year's PaganFest. We were all excited to play this festival and premier some new material, but unfortunately our new album 'Caligvla' has been delayed, and we need to finish it and make it perfect. Add to that, the Kataklsym DVD is also on its final production phase...We decided it would be best to concentrate on giving every bit of attention to the album you have been waiting for, and also for the Kataklysm documentary to kick major ass.
"This being said, we will still perform with EX DEO on the Montreal & Toronto shows with PaganFest, as we will be in studio in the area, closing up the album 'Caligvla'. Everything else is cancelled for EX DEO. We will return to support the album in the fall...
"Word from Rome is that the plans are already in motion for world conquest! We ask our fans to support PaganFest and the great bands playing this year!"

Ex Deo Signs With Napalm Records
Canadian Roman-themed metal act Ex Deo has announced its signing with Napalm Records. The signing comes in time for the band to prepare its next full length album, titled "Caligula." Frontman Maurizio Iacono, also of Canadian death metal veterans Kataklysm, commented by saying:
"Today I'm excited to say that we have found a new home for the Roman legion of Ex Deo! We have parted ways amicably with our longtime friends at Nuclear Blast for the second album of Ex Deo. We needed to separate even more the two bands of Kataklysm and Ex Deo and we now have a new vision of soldiers behind Ex Deo and we have found this after a few months of talking to different labels with Napalm Records out of Austria, I've been dealing with them with a band I work with called Alestorm and they have done a fantastic and professional job. We look forward to releasing the anticipated second album, 'Caligula', with this new powerhouse and unleashing next year one of the most defiant albums metal has seen in ages."
Ex Deo Frontman Comments On New Album
Ex Deo frontman Maurizio Iacono (also of Kataklysm) has posted the following statement online in regards to its forthcoming studio album, titled "Caligula."
"It’s amazing to see a vision I had one day waking up finally become a reality two years ago. We had done a few shows in America with Ensiferum for our debut album Romulus that were fantastic, but to go across the country and really seeing people waiting anxiously for this and screaming their hearts out for it live has been one incredible feeling.
I feel EX DEO is changing the game of the underground, bringing a theater to the live stage and bringing a new concept that has never done before. This is a beast of a band and we would like to thank everyone for the great support. With this said, I would like to announce that we will indeed begin pre-production on the next album Caligula – the follow up to the highly-acclaimed debut Romulus – as soon as the world tour for KATAKLYSM will end next year.
Expect a revolutionary album that will breathe the word ‘NEW’ into a much stagnant metal industry. It is yet undermined which label will release Caligula as we are looking at many different options."
Ex Deo To Return in 2011 with "Caligula"
Kataklysm's Facebook page has announced that Ex Deo will return in late 2011 with their sophomore release entitled "Caligula," accompanying the announcement with these words: "I have existed from the morning of the world and I shall exist untilthe last star falls from the night. Although I have taken the form of Gaius Caligula, I am all men as I am no man and therefore I am a God."
When asked about Ex Deo in a recent interview, guitarist Jean-François replied: "We didn’t know for sure because for us it was really Maurizio’s project, so we did it out of passion for music and to do something different. When we saw the reaction to it and the amount of albums sold, the label certainly wanted us to record a second one. We thought about it and thought “Why not?” It works good, and we actually have a lot to say and more ideas to explore and we want to start working on another one."

Ex Deo Posts New Music Video
Ex Deo, the Roman themed band featuring Maurizio Iacono of Kataklysm, has debuted the brand new video for the track "The Final War (Battle of Actium)," which deals with Antony and Cleopatra's defiance of Octavian in Egypt. Karl Sanders of Nile makes a special guest appearance on this track with a guitar solo.
Commented Maurizio Iacono: "It's an honor for me that such talented musicians and friends lent their art for a couple songs on this album. I only asked a few selected people that had involvement with history through their music and related to this band's concept, so I salute them for contributing to Rome's rise and they shall be amply rewarded for it."

Vocalist Maurizio Iacono recently stated about the video: “After much discussion with the director Ivan Collic we decided to go with ‘The Final War (Battle Actium)’ as the next video clip for Romulus. The story line is amazing for this song and we will be able to capture not only Roman battle scenes and all the blood you want, but also the true story behind the war that turned Rome from a republic into an Empire.
