Ahab Shares "Mobilis In Mobili" Music Video
Today, extreme doom metal masters Ahab celebrate the release of their critically acclaimed, fifth studio album, "The Coral Tombs," via Napalm Records. It’s the band‘s first full-length offering in eight long years, gaining much praise from both fans and music critics alike.
Following their chart-impacting 2015 album, "The Boats Of The Glenn Carrig," and the epic "Live Prey" release (2020), as usual, the kings of nautik doom – a genre they invented – once again interpret a maritime novel, inspired this time by Jules Verne‘s masterpiece 20000 Leagues Under The Sea. Throughout seven new tracks, Ahab takes their fans on a new musical journey with Captain Nemo and Professor Arronax. Of their entire discography, "The Coral Tombs" is arguably the closest the band has come to their sound resembling a real soundtrack: it‘s evil, it‘s longing, it‘s sad, it‘s meditative, it‘s cavernous, it‘s vast, it‘s ridiculously epic and as heavy as the colossal squid itself!
To celebrate Ahab‘s new album in glorious style, today, the German four-piece has shared a video clip for their final, colossal new album single "Mobilis In Mobili!"
Guitarist Christian Hector comments:
"'Mobilis In Mobili' is quite a cavernous journey. Musically, it feels like a tune that goes back to the very first Ahab song ’The Stream‘ from 2004, at times, and even further to the early 90s when Death Metal exploded. You will know what I mean when you hear that particular riff in the mid section. ’Mobilis in mobili‘ deservedly ended up in our live set, as it‘s a pleasure to play it on stage. The video for the third single taken from our new album, 'The Coral Tombs,' was actually recorded during our first live gig on a ship: the MS Stubnitz in Hamburg, Germany." More...
Ahab Unleashes New Music Video
January 13, 2023 sees extreme doom metal masters Ahab return with their fifth studio album, entitled "The Coral Tombs," via Napalm Records. The album is the band‘s first full-length offering in eight long years.
Following the German four-piece‘s first single and lyric video for "Prof. Arronax‘ Descent Into The Vast Oceans" (featuring Chris Noir of Ultha), today, Ahab have released a new track taken off of "The Coral Tombs!" "Colossus Of The Liquid Graves" showcases their exceptional talent and a sound only Ahab can create. It‘s evil, ugly, beautiful and heavy all in one.
Says guitarist Christian Hector about the new single and video:
"I've always wanted to have a video for Ahab like 'Colossus Of The Liquid Graves'. Actually we developed the ideas for a storyboard ourselves during a flight to a show in Athens - which was a great experience. It was so inspiring to see our ideas animated literally little by little. Needless to say, the team of puppet builders, stop motion animators and camera operators did an awesome job on getting it all done the way we had it in our minds. The story itself is quite gloomy and the video breathes life into our cover artwork. We‘re all very excited and thankful for this fine little moving picture." More...
Ahab Reveals New Album Details
Following their much acclaimed, chart-impacting 2015 album, "The Boats Of The Glenn Carrig," and the epic "Live Prey" release (2020), 2023 will see extreme doom metal masters Ahab celebrate their 19th band anniversary in glorious style: On January 13, 2023, the German four-piece will return with their fifth studio album, entitled "The Coral Tombs," on Napalm Records! The release will mark their first full-length offering in eight long years.
The kings of nautik doom – a genre they invented – once again interpret a maritime novel, inspired this time by Jules Verne‘s masterpiece 20000 Leagues Under The Sea. Throughout seven new tracks, Ahab takes their fans on a new musical journey with Captain Nemo and Professor Arronax. But give ear, as today Ahab has shared a lyric video for their first single and album opening track, "Prof. Arronax‘ Descent Into The Vast Oceans." The song not only features Ultha's Chris Dark on guest vocals, but sees Ahab unleash a colossal thunder of blast beats and pitch black vibes before shifting into the epic grandeur of the melancholic-yet heaviness the band is known and loved for.

Ahab Premiere Pre-Release Full-Album Stream

Nautik funeral doom outfit Ahab premiere the pre-release full-album stream of the band's impending new album "Live Prey", which will be out in stores later today throughNapalm Records.
Check out now "Live Prey" in its entirety below.
Ahab Posts New Live Video Online
Nautic funeral doom heavyweights AHAB have released the first single “Old Thunder” off their first live album, Live Prey, to be released on June 26th, 2020 via Napalm Records.
Originally released in 2006 on the band's pathbreaking full length, The Call of the Wretched Sea, this blackened doom anthem will take you on a thunderous journey between slow-motion grooves, big riffs, haunting melodies accented by the guttural vocals of Daniel Droste, and an apocalyptic sound as you would experience it front row at an AHAB show! “Old Thunder” is accompanied by a music video that contains loads of live and off stage footage, as well as touring snapshots, highlighting the bands message: It's a big “thank you” to all of their fans and supporters worldwide who have joined the band in their funeral doom journey throughout the past 15 years!
Drummer Cornelius Althammer on “Old Thunder”:
"Throughout the last 15 years, we’ve gained a lot of experience, on and off stage, to create the incomparable AHAB sound and feeling. “The Hunt” is probably one of our most classic picks to choose, but with a length of nearly 17 minutes, it simply blows up the playtime of a regular single even more than other songs. So, here you go! Except the length, “Old Thunder” is in no way inferior to “The Hunt” – thank you all for so many years of loyalty. Without YOU, we wouldn't be the same band now!" More...
Ahab To Release Live Album
Ever since the band's founding in late 2004, Ahab have been exploring the deep dark sea, while becoming the true masters of solemn melancholy. The nautic doom heavyweights now announce their first intense live album, Live Prey – recorded at Death Row Fest 2017 in Jena, Germany – to be released on June 26, 2020 via Napalm Records.
For Live Prey, Ahab chose the finest selection of live tracks – originally released on their pathbreaking 2006 album, "The Call of the Wretched Sea!" Gracefully nestled in between slow-motion grooves, rampant riffs, and haunting melodies, and accented by the angelic but guttural vocals of Daniel Droste, the listener will experience an apocalyptic live sound as if they are standing in the front row at the band’s unforgettable show. "Live Prey" will be available as a limited black and white, as well as a special black and white swirl edition Gatefold LP.
Featuring five extreme doom anthems such as “Below the Sun”, the majestic beast “Old Thunder”, or the almost 17-minute long magnum opus “The Hunt”, Live Prey is the ultimate live record by the undisputed sailors of slow heaviness! An indispensable must-have album that belongs in every well-sorted Doom and especially Ahab record collection.
Drummer Cornelius Althammer states:
"We are pretty proud to present our first live album: These songs were written a long time ago, even before we became a proper band. Over the years and with a bunch of new live experiences, the songs have evolved and we were finally given the chance to capture them in a way they deserve. The days you have seen us perform them live, the way the songs have developed – you were able to witness the process on how we became Ahab." More...

Ahab Froths "Like Red Foam" With Video Premiere
German doom act Ahab premiered the music video for the new track "Like Red Foam" over at Metal Hammer's website at this location, which can also be viewed in the player below. The song appears on the new album "The Boats of the Glen Carrig," which is set to launch on August 28th via Napalm Records.
The album is based on the 1907 horror novel from William Hope Hodgson of the same name. "Like Red Foam" is "about the part of the book when the small lifeboats of the Glen Carrig's crew get caught in a mighty storm" comments the band.

It was important for us to get this across in the song and the video, as it's still of great importance nowadays. So we chose a subject for it, which is present in almost every part in the world – may it be the 'western world', Africa, Asia or South America."

Ahab Comments On Album Art Similarities
Ahab has issued the following statement about people questioning the similarities between the cover from upcoming album "The Boats Of The Glen Carrig" and Giant Squid's "The Ichthyologist" release:
"Quite some messaging going around with the guys of Giant Squid (a San Fransisco based band) about our album artwork. They thought, our cover artwork of 'The Boats Of The Glen Carrig' is too close to the one of a re-issue of 'The Ichthyologist.' Unfortunately we didn't know the band or the cover. That being said: We still do not think there's much more similarity than a hand being turned into a sea-animal (two different one's btw). Anyway: We hope this settles the argument, cause we (and I guess also Giant Squid) do not like bitching with fellow artists. Now it's up to you, what to think of it."
Giant Squid also commented: "Been talking with Aahab, who say they, and the artist, we're officially and completely unfamiliar with both Giant Squid, and 'The Ichthyologist.' So there you go. Let's chalk it up to crazy coincidence, kindred spirits thinking alike, if you will.
"I love Ahab. One of my favorite bands going today. 'Divinity of Oceans' is almost perfect and is one of the only albums from a band I've just spontaneously acclaimed out of the blue on this page. 'The Giant' was great too, and I'm sure this new album will crush. And, as an illustrator, that album art is amazingly well done, truly beautiful. Except... eeesh, that sure reminds me of a cover of a certain landmark album by a certain band... Anyone else feeling me on this? Seems I'm not the only one calling it out in the comments. Eh, whatever I guess.
"Remember that one time we wrote an album about the New Jersey shark attacks, and then another band did it two years later. Yeah, me too. Sigh..." More...

Orange Goblin And Winterfylleth To Play Damnation
English stoner rock band Orange Goblin is the latest name to be added to the 10th anniversary Damnation Festival bill.
Orange Gobline will be joined by black metal quartet Winterfylleth and post-punk outfit October File, with both bands airing material from new albums at Leeds University Union on Saturday, November 1st.
The trio of new additions bolster an impressively eclectic line-up which already boasts Bolt Thrower's only U.K. appearance, a Cannibal Corpse headline set and St. Vitus performing "Born Too Late" in full.
Orange Goblin said: "Over the last few years, Damnation has cemented itself into one of the UK's leading metal festivals, so it is a great honour to be asked back to play for a second time.
"It is already a great line up of bands, and we can't wait to be part of it."
Winterfylleth added: "We are proud to announce we will be playing Damnation Festival once again in 2014. The response we had in 2012 was mind blowing and we hope to see you all there once again. Damnation is a festival we always attend as fans regardless of playing and a must for all serious metal fans. We have a new album out a few weeks before the festival, so will be playing some exclusive new material for the first time on the day.”
October File also comments: "We are over the moon to be playing what is becoming one of the most important and special events in the UK. Damnation has worked hard to forge a name that is a must for fans and underground talent."
The line-up for Damnation Festival so far includes: Bolt Thrower, Cannibal Corpse, Saint Vitus, Raging Speedhorn, Orange Goblin, Anaal Nathrakh, Ahab, Revocation, Solstafir, Winterfylleth, H A R K, October File, Bast, Atlantis and Corrupt Moral Altar, with many more bands to be announced across four stages.
