Below is our complete Black Breath news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Southern Lord Recordings is amped-up to announce that brutalizing Seattle quintet, Black Breath, has locked studio time late this Autumn to harness a third full-length album for the label.
Returning to GodCity Studios in Salem, Massachusetts to record once again with Kurt Ballou (as with the 2010 debut, "Heavy Breathing," and the 2012 follow-up, "Sentenced To Life") Black Breath will begin recording this massive third full-length at the end of November and complete it in mid-December, for release in early 2015.
Before returning immediately home following the recording session, Black Breath will raid Brooklyn for an exclusive one-off gig to close out the year at the mighty Saint Vitus on December 14th. Stay tuned for further details.
Following several months off the touring grid, Seattle's unstoppable Black Breath will return to the road this month on a swift and brutal trek originating on the opposite side of the country at Maryland Deathfest 2014.
This trek follows misfortune in January where drummer Jamie Byrum was hit by a car and badly injured. While Jamie is still working on getting back to maximum killing capacity, he's now able to slay his kit like a champ once again, and the band is ready to bring some decimating, high-paced action to their fans at these shows.
The action begins with a pre-tour hometown throwdown on May 14th with Theories, Bell Witch and He Whose Ox Is Gored. From there, Black Breath will traverse the country, Baltimore-bound. Six nights of damage will ensue directly after MDF, as Black Breath will tour the way back towards the West Coast, raiding Hartford, Cambridge, New York, Cleveland, Detroit and Chicago joined by Mutilation Rites, Yautja and Theories on all dates.
Much more Black Breath action is in store for 2014 as the band constructs an undoubtedly crushing third album for Southern Lord. In the meantime, fans can help Jamie Byrum defray medical costs by donating funds here. More...
The fourth annual installment of the The Power Of The Riff festival in Los Angeles is now just a week away, the event including a pre-party on Friday, August 9th at The Echo and two-stage, full-day lineup Saturday, August 10th, at both The Echo and Echoplex.
Amidst the massive roster of crushing newcomer acts and classic heavyweights set to execute sets over the two-day fest, one of the main headlining performances of the weekend will be the original lineup of LA crossover act Final Conflict - founder Jeff Harp, vocalist Ron Martinez and bassist Warren Renfrow (Manic Hispanic, Cadillac Tramps) - for the first time in 24 years.
In the 1980s, Final Conflict was part of the first wave of punk bands to be labeled "crossover," with a sonic mix of Discharge meeting Black Sabbath coupled with political lyrics the appropriate soundtrack to inspire a troublemaker to slam, headbang, or throw a brick at a cop... and sometimes all three.
The band will perform 1987's "Ashes To Ashes" LP in sequence as well as early demo material. Although older, the band has no intentions of “phoning it in” - expect a brutal and energetic set.
Additional headlining acts The Obsessed, M.D.C., From Ashes Rise, Black Breath, Iceburn, and others join more than twenty additional bands including Early Graves, Mammoth Grinder, Bastard Noise, Dead in the Dirt, and tons more taking part in the melee. The lineup is:
Friday, August 9th @ The Echo // pre-party:
Black Breath, Early Graves, Obliterations, Nomads, Creative Adult
Saturday, August 10th @ The Echo & Echoplex
The Obsessed, Final Conflict, From Ashes Rise, M.D.C., Iceburn, Iron Lung, Mammoth Grinder, Bastard Noise, Condition, Dead In The Dirt, Baptists, Replica, Completed Exposition, Centuries, Wartorn, Territory, Whip Hand, Children Of God, Old Wounds, Opposition Rising
Following a tour of Australian in April, an East Coast run including a set at the fifteenth anniversary of the New England Metal & Hardcore Festival, and most recently West Coast touring alongside the likes of Rotten Sound and more, Black Breath today announces its next run of live confrontations.
Four new cities have been scheduled for Black Breath's demolition in early August, including Portland, Santa Cruz, Los Angeles, and Oakland. The Seattle savages will be flanked by backup provided by Mammoth Grinder on the first three dates and Obliterations on two of them, which end up seeing all three bands taking part in The Power Of The Riff in LA. The next day in Oakland will see Early Graves and Obliterations jointing once again.
This newest run will be preceded by a hometown gig on July 13th as Black Breath provides direct support for Autopsy, with additional support from Scolex and Bone Sickness.

The tour includes Expire who played last year, California powerhouse Alpha & Omega, Power Trip who is an up-and-coming hardcore band from Texas, and Twitching Tongues. We're also very excited to have Antagonist A.D. from New Zealand; they are the band coming from the farthest away for the fest. Seattle deathbrigade Black Breath is preparing to unleash a new LP, "Sentenced To Life," on March 27th via Southern Lord.
Today Revolver Magazine is debuting the first public listen to "Sentenced To Life," as well as the cover art for the album. Check out the unhinged sixth track, "Mother Abyss," and more right here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"With 10 tracks in under 33 minutes, Sentenced To Life contains the most demoralizing yet energizing d-beat injected death metal hymns from the band to date, with a bit less rock and roll swagger and more full-on rage. The album is a product of furious creativity jammed into a short span of time, written in the seemingly endless Winter after returning from their November 2010 European tour. As with their acclaimed debut full-length Heavy Breathing, Black Breath recorded at God City Studios with Kurt Ballou, and had the finished product mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side."
The album's track listing is as follows: More...
Seattle's barbaric wrecking crew Black Breath has completed a second LP and is preparing to fire it point blank into the public's face this March. The forthcoming new platter, dubbed "Sentenced to Life," is the follow-up to the band's raging 2010 debut album, "Heavy Breathing."
Bearing 10 thunderous tracks in under 33 minutes, "Sentenced To Life" features such smashing Black Breath hits as "Feast of the Damned," "Doomed," "Forced Into Possession," "Home of the Grave" and of course the title anthem "Sentenced to Life."
The band once again recorded at God City Studios with Kurt Ballou, and had the finished product mastered by Alan Douches at West West Side. "Sentenced To Life" will burst into stores and distros for public armament in March 2012. A final release date, full track listing, cover art and preview of the new album will be announced in the weeks ahead.
The mammoth five-date The Power of the Riff will invade the West Coast this week, kicking off with the main festival in Los Angeles this Saturday. Those in charge of the event want people there early to check out the new bands that are playing first, so the first 50 people through the doors at both the L.A. show this Saturday as well as the Seattle show on 8/18 will receive a $50 Converse Gift Card. Full show orders and set times for all five shows are posted below.
