Finland's Brother Firetribe - the five-strong outfit fueled by class compositions and top-of-the-line musicianship, the latter underpinned by the signature style of Nightwish guitarist, Emppu Vuorinen - will release the fourth full-length album "Sunbound" via Spinefarm Records on March 24th.
Featuring 12 new pieces of music, including lead track "Taste of a Champion," plus follow-up single/video for "Indelible Heroes," due out next month, "Sunbound" has been mixed by Finnish studio-meister Mikko Karmila (Nightwish, Children Of Bodom, Stratovarius), and is the follow-up to 2014's "Diamond In The Firepit."
Since first coming together for the "False Metal" debut back in 2006, Brother Firetribe has flown the flag for a brand of music ("ultra-melodic West Coast AOR") that once strode the U.S. radio airwaves like a colossus, filling up arenas and providing the silky soundtrack to poolside summers and wind-in-the-hair coastal highway drives; music pioneered by some of rock music's most legendary names...
However, Brother Firetribe - that's vocalist Pekka Ansio Heino, keyboard player Tomppa Nikulainen, bassist Jason Flinck, drummer Hannes Pirila, plus Vuorinen himself - is not trying to hitch a DeLorean ride into the past; rather, their collective aim is to both celebrate and reinvigorate a musical style that is all about big hooks, strong melodies, soaring vocals and searing guitars, not to mention the desire to entertain on a grand and glorious scale. Singer Pekka Ansio Heino spoke about the band's upcoming release: "We're thrilled to be back in action after 5 years which seems like a life time! We wouldn't be THIS thrilled if the new album hadn't turned out be exactly how we wanted it to be. It's just as bold, big, polished, hooky and sticky as we pictured it. A lot of hard work was spent making it happen and now it's time for the best part of making music; taking it out and playing it live. We can't wait to meet our old friends again and hopefully make some new ones along the way. Hope you enjoy Diamond In The Firepit. Thanks for still being there and sorry for the delay, let's have some serious fun!" More...
Every week we check in with musicians from across the metalverse to get their favorite Pit Stories from live shows. Today vocalist Pekka Heino from Finland's Brother Firetribe shares this tale of how the legendary Finnish love for alcohol got out of hand on a cruise show:
I was doing a show on a big cruise boat sailing the Helsinki-Stockholm line. Things get easily out of hand there as the audience tends to be pretty drunk - to put it mildly. This one time people were extra special messed up, really partying to the music we played.
Some guy got a little too excited and made his way onto the fence dividing the stage and the audience. He started rocking his body back and forth while holding on to the fence with only one hand. The state he was in made sure that it wouldn't end up well. And it didn't. He slammed face down on stage so that his body followed, legs and ass twisting over his neck. Of course he landed on glasses and bottles people had placed on stage while partying, and of course on our bass players pedal board. The bassist didn't really appreciate this, grabbed a hold of the guy and threw him off the stage. Another face down landing in just a few seconds.
While I'm watching this episode, a bald body builder type of guy grabs a hold of my clothes, trying to pull me off stage so I'm left with no choice but to cross check him in the forehead with the mic stand. He was so out of it he didn't even blink, just showed me the thumbs up and kept on rocking.
At the end of the gig, during the last encore, our guitarist jumped onto the audience to play a solo, tried to jump back to the stage over the fence, failing epically and landing on his back like a beetle turned upside down. I laughed so hard I couldn't finish the song.
