"Suspended At Aphelion" features a single track divided into 11 parts, performed by the entire "Fear Of Infinity" line-up as well as several esteemed guests, including Fates Warning alumni drummer Mark Zonder and co-founding guitarist Victor Arduini - uniting two eras of Fates Warning for the first time ever.

II: Icarus And I
V: Indifference Turned Paralysis

While Heaven Wept is commemorating it's 25th year with the release of sixth full-length album "Suspended At Aphelion" via Nuclear Blast this October.
Today the band releases the lyric video for the album track "Icarus And I." Check it out in the player below. Commented guitarist, keyboardist, and vocalist Tom Philips:
"‘Icarus And I’ is Part 2 out of 11 and establishes the foundation of »Suspended At Aphelion’s« plot: the pursuit of the sun with passion and vigor, only to succumb to the reality that it is beyond reach.
"That is really what 'Suspended At Aphelion' is all about: being instead condemned to the furthest point from the sun...the failure to achieve the dream - despite all the faith, hope, spirit, strength, and heart any one of us could muster.
"And musically, there are so many more twists, turns, modulations, so much more madness that follows this, it's impossible to represent the totality of this song with any individual part, however ‘Icarus And I’was the inception of what we feel is the most gratifying journey in the history of While Heaven Wept."

U.S. progressive doom act While Heaven Wept announced that the band's upcoming new release will be entitled "Suspended At Aphelion." The album commemorates the 25th anniversary of the band and is set for release via Nuclear Blast on October 24th (EU) and the October 27th (North America).
"Suspended At Aphelion" was produced and engineered by Kevin Gutierrez (Raven/Deceased) at Assembly Line Studios. The album's artwork was created again by Gustavo Sazes (Morbid Angel) and can be seen below.
Guitarist/keyboardist/composer Tom Phillips commented on the style of the album: "While most of our albums have been thematic, this is the first time we've released something entirely of a conceptual nature in the grand tradition of Pink Floyd, Genesis, Rush, Marillion, Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Queensrÿche and of course Fates Warning...and musically, this album falls somewhere in the middle of all of that with a touch of Viking-era BATHORY as well."
The track listing is:
II: Icarus And I
V: Indifference Turned Paralysis
VI: The Memory Of Bleeding
VII: Souls In Permafrost
VIII: Searching The Stars
IX: Reminiscence Of Strangers
X: Lifelines Lost

After two years in pre-production, the Virginia-based metal band While Heaven Wept has entered the studio to begin recording the first of two brand new albums, entitled "Suspended At Aphelion," which will be released via Nuclear Blast Records in late 2014.
Founding guitarist and primary composer Tom Phillips comments: “If (2011’s) 'Fear Of Infinity' was our 'Caress Of Steel,' 'Suspended At Aphelion' is without question our '2112' – and anyone familiar with the stories behind those Rush albums will understand that where we’re coming from is very similar both musically and circumstantially. 'Suspended At Aphelion' is the culmination of 25 years and embodies everything that While Heaven Wept has ever represented – yet so much more; it’s everything we’ve got to give in our hearts and souls.”
He continues: “The album really is, quite simply, the greatest epic in our canon in that it is a single, 40+ minute monolith divided into 11 parts – in the tradition of the aforementioned '2112' and our own ‘The Furthest Shore,’ ‘Finality,’ and ‘Thus With A Kiss I Die,’ amongst others.
"Yet, musically…while clearly this is While Heaven Wept …it’s very much beyond anything else we’ve ever done…VERY progressive, but in a harmonic sense more than the technical. The bottom line is, if you enjoyed those aforementioned 'mini-epics' – or the 'Vast Oceans Lachrymose' album for that matter – then this is the elevation and evolution several years beyond those. We’ve approached this one as if it were to be our last – so again, it’s everything we’ve got!” More...
While Heaven Wept's Tom Phillips has checked in with the following update about working on a new album:
"Just wanted to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their support of WHW throughout the years being that it's Thanksgiving time. You all mean the world to me. And with that said, I thought I'd give you a long-overdue update regarding the new EXTREMELY epic album. Yes, the one that is an epic unto itself: as of today, the updated structure is complete... direct results from this past weekend's pre-production work.
"We've also discussed the schedule for the realization of this with Nuclear Blast Europe and recording will commence in April for a cold autumn 2014 release! Much more news to follow, but as a personal aside, it is very obvious that this 40 minute song is light years beyond anything we've ever done.
"Never thought we could 'top' "Vast Oceans Lachrymose," but this will decimate it. Expect the nothing less than the definitive While Heaven Wept statement."
U.S. doom act act While Heaven Wept is currently celebrating its 25th band anniversary. To have the world take part in this overwhelming achievement, the Virginia based outfit will be headlining two hand selected shows on global grounds.
First off will be Stoner Hands Of Doom XIII in Richmond, VA on November 9th. Commented the festival's organizer: "We are happy to announce we have added Doom legends and old and good friends (they played the first ever SHoD) While Heaven Wept! They will be playing last on Saturday Nov 9th. One of the first and most original Doom outfits in our lifetime they are must see. I thank Tom and his mates for their support and lets have a party."
The following weekend will be the Hammer Of Doom 8 in Würzburg, Germany. Mainman Tom Phillips states his excitement:
"We are extremely honored…truly flattered to have been invited back to perform at the Hammer Of Doom Festival – particularly with our own 25th Anniversary on the horizon. We have been given the opportunity to commemorate this milestone the very same week the original band first gathered in my parents’ basement in 1989. More...

Hani Al-Abbadi from the Jordanian dark oriental metal act Bilocate is going to share a recipe in the upcoming book "For Those About To Cook Pure Metal" by Bruce Moore. The following press release was issued about the book:
"For Those About To Cook Pure Metal is a collection of recipes, anecdotes and pictures from metal musicians from around the world. With contributions from numerous musical genres and countries, this is truly a multi-ethnic collector’s cookbook. Readers will be presented with recipes ranging from appetizers to full course meals and desserts.
"Pure Metal is more than a cookbook: it is also a fan collectible as it includes short informative biographies, high quality pictures of the artists (mostly in a kitchen setting)), pictures of the food and, in some cases, a quote about why the recipe or food is important to the contributor. Readers and fans will gain an insider’s view into the lifestyle and habits of the artists and bands; a sort of backstage pass or behind-the-scenes look into the lives of their favorite artists far from the stage and the studio."
U.S. progressive/doom act While Heaven Wept have begun work on the band's follow up to the 2011 release "Fear of Infinity." Guitarist/vocalist Tom Phillips had the following update on the new material, which was conceived between 2009-2011:
I can reveal that we have completed the music for the follow-up to 'Fear Of Infinity' and will spend much of this year rehearsing with the intention of recording it in Autumn. It will consist of 10 brand new songs that were channelled between 2009-2011 (though one expression includes riffs dating back to 1995) and will surely once again challenge everyone’s notions of what While Heaven Wept is. While extremely melodic, heartfelt, and epic, it is (in Scott Loose’s words) 'intense and aggressive' – running the gamut from classic US Underground Metal to Melodic Thrash and passages of a more 'extreme' nature. Compared to 'Fear Of Infinity,' it has a very different atmosphere and is very much 'in your face' musically, yet clearly While Heaven Wept. For now, I just want to thank one and all for standing beside us as we roll into our 22nd year of existence. I assure you that we won’t slow down at all and some of our most exciting music yet is on the horizon! We hope to see all of you very soon on the road.More...
The Days of the Doomed fest is set to take place on Kenosha, WI on June 22nd and 23rd, 2012. While Heaven Wept has now issued the following announcement about appearing at the festival:
"We're extremely happy to announce that we will be appearing at the Days Of The Doomed 2 festival in June 2012! We'd actually been in discussions with Mike even prior to the first edition, so this has been a long time coming indeed! While there was a time when we faced some challenges in making this happen, ultimately the planets have aligned! We look forward to sharing the stage with all of our old friends and bringing the music of While Heaven Wept to the midwest for the first time! Don't miss this event as it is the culmination of many years of 'homegrown' Doom Metal events in the USA reaching a level of maturity and passion previously unseen!"
The organizers of the festival also commented:
"After months of negotiations, and many enjoyable conversations with Tom Phillips himself, I am extremely proud to be bringing the epic music of While Heaven Wept to Wisconsin and the midwest for the very first time! You do not want to miss this rare opportunity to see While Heaven Wept perform on Day #2 of Days Of The Doomed Fest II!

Back by popular demand! Rochester NY doom mongers ORODRUIN will be returning to pummel all of you! More...

If you attend Progpower, make sure you opt for the VIP gold badge over the regular. This will get you in to the “Insider Sale” where you will be able to purchase CDs of all of the bands that will be playing at next year’s festival. Gold badge attendees this year were treated to this sale in the vendor room long before the doors opened to regular attendees. Among the CDs on sale were some albums that previously had not received a US distribution, such as Amaranthe's debut.
When the doors finally opened, everyone was eager to get in and out of the bright Atlanta sun for another twelve hours. Being such an exclusive event, you could instantly strike up a conversation with any stranger you meet and be on the same page. With social barriers down, everyone was talking with everyone, discussing albums, bands, and previous ProgPower festivals.
UK-based progressive-symphonic band Haken was first up for the day, though the place was only half full about ten minutes before the band’s set. Clearly, the after-parties of the night before had been great. The venue eventually filled up in time for Haken’s second song. It was to be an exciting set, although a bit short. Seeing guitarists Richard Henshall and Charles Griffiths, as well as keyboardist Diego Tejeida rip some masterful solos did the trick on kicking hangovers from the night before. More...

TTD's current lineup also includes bassist Jim Hunter (Revelation, October 31, While Heaven Wept), drummer Mark Stauffer (Krass Judgement) and guitarists Scott Waldrop (While Heaven Wept) and Dave Boyd (Volture).
Digital download store Metalhit.com has launched the first of many future monthly compilations to be available for free download worldwide. Owner, Mike Riddick, comments:
"What’s unique about these monthly compilations is that they will feature as-of-yet unreleased tracks from metal bands spanning a variety of genres. Metalheads want to be ‘in the know’ on the latest titles, and what better way to do this than to offer up legal downloads of the latest from metal’s greatest labels...days-to-weeks before their official release!"
Metalhit’s first compilation includes 11 downloadable tracks from Agoraphobic Nosebleed, While Heaven Wept, Blut Aus Nord, Feral, Necros Christos, Nightshade, Putridity, Satan’s Host, Spearhead, Hope for the Dying, and Leaves’ Eyes.
The compilation can be downloaded at this location. Another set of free songs will be available in May.
"Destroyer Of Solace," a track off the new album by While Heaven Wept, is currently available for streaming online. Click here to check out the new song. Guitarist, song writer and founding member Tom Phillips gives a little insight on the track:
"Jim [Hunter] totally nailed the sick bass run in one take. Clearly, this is Bathory and Immortal inspired yet totally WHW nonetheless. And of course, as with all WHW material, it is rooted in real life events and relationships. Or, rather specifically, one. The bottom line is the album comes from the deepest wells of my heart, and it really requires several listens to understand... even for me. Anyway, it is the beginning of the end of a process of bereavement that began with the VOL album."
"Fear Of Infinity," the Virginia based band’s Nuclear Blast debut, will be released in North America on May 3rd and April 22nd in Europe. The release is the follow-up studio album to 2009’s "Vast Oceans Lachrymose."

While Heaven Wept is officially leaving the Cruz Del Sur Music roster and has signed a new record deal with Nuclear Blast Records. Enrico Leccese of Cruz Del Sur Music issued the following statement:
"I started working with Tom Phillips on the release of what was going to be Vast Oceans Lachrymose in June 2006. Almost three and a half years later, the release of VOL hit the market provoking an amazing reaction from the people who already loved WHW, but also conquering thousands of new fans. From then on, it was an exciting ride which has seen the CD re-release of their long out-of-print previous albums, a series of glorious live shows and the peak represented by the forthcoming release of their first live album Triumph: Tragedy: Transcendence available in a CD/DVD limited edition and on vinyl on Cruz del Sur Music. It was inevitable that WHW would catch the interest of bigger labels and I am not angry or disillusioned at all. I mainly see their going to a respectable and leading label as Nuclear Blast as a honor and a recognition of our work."
Jaap Wagemaker of Nuclear Blast commented: "Nuclear Blast is extremely elated to announce the signing of While Heaven Wept! Last year we were totally blown away by the release of the album Vast Oceans Lachrymose (out on Cruz del Sur Music) from the US genre-defining and genre-defying metal band While Heaven Wept! After months of talking with mastermind Tom Philips we are very happy to announce that WHW has joined the Nuclear Family!! While Heaven Wept are already in the studio recording their follow up album Fear of Infinity which will be out April 2011."
While Heaven Wept's Tom Phillips also stated: "It made perfect sense for us to align with Nuclear Blast, who also have been committed to offering only the very best in the world of Heavy Metal. Through this partnership, we will surely be able to continue delivering the best productions possible while presenting our musical vision in a different arena, betraying neither our past nor our ideals. Nuclear Blast's support of our musical identity is truly an honor, and everyone who has stood by us all along these years need not worry; While Heaven Wept is what it is, and cannot be anything else. Expect the unexpected. We look forward to revealing our new album Fear Of Infinity together with Nuclear Blast very soon!"
