Yob Issues Band Update

American doom metal act YOB has posted the following update online, detailing its forthcoming new album as well as a new tour.

"This album is very aggressive. Certainly it has all of the elements of our other albums, but it propels and pummels in ways that are unique in our catalogue. We are very excited to share this new music with our friends worldwide.

"Yob has received many request over the years to tour again. This year, we will do exactly that. After we are done recording, we will begin rehearsing for a full U.S. tour beginning the first week of July, followed by a full European tour in September.

"We are thrilled to announce that our labelmates Dark Castle will be accompanying Yob on all of the dates both in the U.S. and in Europe, with Rob Shaffer of Dark Castle laying down drums for Yob on both tours.

"It is going to be a great year for us, and we can't wait to see you on the road! DOOM!!!"

Dark Castle Announces Two Vinyl Releases

At A Loss Recordings has announced two upcoming vinyl releases from Floridian act Dark Castle. At A Loss Recordings commented on the new vinyl releases:

"First up, the vinyl edition of Dark Castle's critically acclaimed 2009 full-length Spirited Migration, which the band has been touring on almost constantly for the past two years. This already behemoth album will be available to the public in massive 180-gram vinyl, the first pressing coming in both opaque ruby red and opaque forest green vinyl. The platters will be available to the public this October 26th, but are shipping via AAL mailorder now. View a photo of the beautiful finished product here.

"The next release from Dark Castgle will also be on wax, in the form of Guardian Of Fire; a one-sided LP bearing the 21+ minute song 'Guardian Of Fire' track on one side, and a complex etching on the B-side. The track was initially recorded before the Spirited Migration sessions but was never finalized or released. Recently the band unearthed the track, took it to engineering magician Sanford Parker (Minsk, Nachtmystium, Rwake) to remix and finalize the track, with Parker contributing some moog and effects to the final version as well. The LP will be available sometime in early 2011; a final release date and album artwork by vocalist/guitarist Stevie Floyd will be announced/posted shortly." More...

"Slow Southern Steel" Documentary In The Works

One of the most comprehensive southern metal documentaries ever made is coming in 2010. Appropriately dubbed "Slow Southern Steel," the 80+ minute film is executive produced by Karim Khan (I'm Better Than Everyone Records) and directed by Rwake vocalist CT and David Lipke with the additional and integral assistance of George Hancock, Alix Petrovich and Beer Wolf guitarist Christian Sweeney (who will be releasing a paperback version of the production) among many others.

"Slow Southern Steel" peers into the world of true southern metal/doom through live footage and personal interviews; CT's devout commitment/knowledge/love of the topic at hand bringing the movie to life in a way few first-time directors can. Said CT about the laborious undertaking: "I knew there were things I could get out of these bands that other film makers could not." Added Khan, "There's just something very appealing to me about taking unyielding heavy songs and adding a strong southern element to them."

At press time, the film was still being shot and thus far, featured bands will include (in alphabetical order): A Hanging, ASG, Baron Grod, Beaten Back To Pure, Beer Wolf, Black Skies, Black Tusk, Blackblood Division, Blood Of The Sun, Collapsar, Colossus, Cough, Dark Castle, Deadbird, Dead-I-On, Dixie Witch, Doomsayer, Eyehategod, Flesh Parade, Haarp, Hawg Jaw, HOD, Hope And Suicide, Hostile Apostle, House Of Lightning, In The Lurch, Jucifer, Ketea, Khann, Kylesa, Mala Suerte, Music Hates You, Parasytic, Queen Beast, Royal Thunder, Rwake, Seahag, SeaWitch, Sourvein, Speedealer, Spickle, Suplecs, Subrig Destroyer, The Devil And The Sea, The Dumps, The Roller, The Unbeheld, Vessel Of The Divine, Weedeater, Withered and Zoroaster.

"Slow Southern Steel" will make its debut at the renowned Little Rock Film Festival in May of 2010 (www.littlerockfilmfestival.org) where many of the bands featured will be in attendance. Additional festival previews will follow.

The DVD edition is slated to be released in 2011 via fast-growing, vinyl-only (and now DVD) Chicago imprint, I'm Better Than Everyone Records.

You can check out a two-minute "Slow Southern Steel" trailer below.
