Below is our complete Lazarus A.D. news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
On March 6, 2010 I went to see Kreator perform at the Nokia Theater in New York City. I was very eager to see Evile, Voivod, and Kreator. I have been a fan of Kreator for some time now, but have only heard one album, “Extreme Aggression.” Evile is a band I was interested in seeing because I have their demo, but have yet to explore much outside of what is on their MySpace page. Voivod has been recommended to me by friends, but I’ve never taken the time to properly explore them. When I arrived at the venue, Lazarus A.D. started playing. More...
Mille Petrozza, front man & guitarist for German thrash stalwarts KREATOR, shares an update on the band’s upcoming North American tour. The 23-date trek coincides with KREATOR’s 25th anniversary and launched yesterday March 3rd at Jaxx in West Springfield, Virginia:
“Right now we are rehearsing our new 2010 anniversary set list. There’s a lot of new stuff that we had to re-learn, some songs we haven't played in a while, plus different stuff from the last album we didn't play at shows in 2009. Thanks for the thousands of votes in our forum regarding the anniversary set list! Of course we can’t play all the requested songs in a ninety minute set, but there will definitely be some tracks that may surprise a couple of you, so be prepared!
"Looking forward to playing with our long-time friends in Voïvod again on our upcoming tour. It will take us all across North America and Canada once again. Can’t wait to see Evile, Kataklysm, Nachtmystium, Lightning Swords of Death and Lazarus A.D., as well. This will be a night of total violence, so be there!!!"
"Also, a big THANK YOU to our German fans for making Hordes Of Chaos 2009's ‘Record of the Year’ in Germany’s most important magazine - Rock Hard! Ihr seid die besten!” More...
Wisconsin's champions of thrash, Lazarus A.D., have unleashed their new video for the track "Absolute Power" from their critically acclaimed debut album, "The Onslaught." The video, like their other two, was directed by Jason Meudt and Emmet Austin of Vision 4 Films.
Jeff Paulick comments, "Yeah it was cold when we shot this video. But the bright side was we had plenty of beer, weed and good friends around to help make it a good time. The guys at Vision4Films always take care of us and I think this video is our best yet. I hope everyone enjoys watching the behind the scenes footage. We can't wait to see everyone on the upcoming Kreator tour. We hope you guys tear the fucking roof of the place during our set."
Watch the new video for "Absolute Power" below and the "making of" segments parts 1 and 2 can be seen on the band's youtube channel.

Just For Fun
Metal Blade Records has posted a video clip online of various metal musicians interviewing the booth babes at the 2010 NAMM convention. The video clip, which can be viewed below, features Jon "Charn" Rice from Job For A Cowboy, Greg Weeks from The Red Chord, Jeff Paulick from Lazarus A.D., Frank Bello from Anthrax, and more.
Here we are, more than one month into 2010, the Super Bowl past, as we've yet to post our staff picks for 2009. Nevertheless, I polled our staff here at Metalunderground.com at the end of last year to obtain their picks in several categories in metal for 2009 and will now present those results.
The outlook for 2009 in metal was perhaps positive, but not phenomenal before the year began, having seen a number of landmark releases and tours in the two years prior. But when the year was over, I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised at what a good year in metal 2009 turned out to be. As the metalcore trend fades further into horizon, we had hardly a mention of metalcore bands in this year's poll. Sure, the stalwarts will still have success, but the novelty has worn off and the genre as a whole does not generate as much buzz anymore. The only noticable trend was the growth of the thrash resurgence, which is hard to fault, giving the year a very solid metal feeling.
That said, let's get down to the details and talk about those bands that made 2009 such a solid year for heavy metal by announcing the Metalunderground.com staff picks for 2009. Here are the Metalunderground.com staff picks for the following categories: Best Metal Album of 2009, Best Metal DVD of 2009, Best Metal Newcomer of 2009, Best Live Act of 2009, and Most Anticipated Release for 2010. This winter, Lazarus A.D. once again teamed up with Vision 4 Films to shoot their next video. "Absolute Power" will premiere sometime before their upcoming tour with Kreator, Voivod, Nachtmystium and Evile. The video is a bit different than their last two in that it has a bit of a story line.
Guitarist Dan Gapen comments: “We just shot the new video for our next single 'Absolute Power.' I would say it was fun but to be honest it was cold, windy and rainy the day of the shoot and I froze my ass off. All I have to say is this fucking video better come out sweet or I’m kicking the directors ass…haha! I think when it’s done, everyone will like how it turned out. Jason & Emmitt from Vision4Films are pros at what they do, we can’t say thank you enough. We look forward to seeing everyone on the upcoming Spring tour w/ Kreator and Voivod!”
The first of two making-of clips is live now at www.youtube.com/lazarusadband. The guys will be hitting the road this Spring with metal legends Kreator and Voivod along with newcomers Nachtmystium and Evile. Here are the tour dates: More...
British thrashers, EVILE have recently announced that they will be embarking on their first major North American tours with such legendary acts as KREATOR and OVERKILL. EVILE frontman/guitarist, Matt Drake recently took some time to proclaim his (and the band's) excitement to hit the road across the pond in March through early-May:
"Well it's about time it happened, we can finally say that we are coming to the USA!! It's been a long time coming because we've tried before, we've had a few plans made in the past to get to the states but they always fell through but it's finally confirmed and happening. We couldn't be happier that we get to lay waste to peoples senses on a nightly basis with such legendary bands that we have nothing but respect for, we're looking forward to meeting people who have listened to our cd's but never had the chance to see us live and we're also looking forward to introducing ourselves to a lot of new people and instead of easing ourselves into it by doing a week or so we're going for a full on two month straight tour with only a few days off, the way it should be!! I'm personally looking forward to being able to visit such iconic places as New York, Las Vegas, San Francisco as these are the kind of places i never thought i would be lucky enough to see. Ladies and gentlemen the British are coming!!!!" More...
Paul Ablaze of Montreal's Blackguard has checked in with the following recap of the From Afar tour, headlined by Ensiferum this past fall:
"Another tour in the Bag , Another notch on the belt , and Another round of good times were had by all.
"For a tour that seemed destined to fall apart on itself just before it's start, I believe it exceeded all expectation by a long shot. With Ex Deo pulling out for the majority of the tour and Hypocrisy having to bail all together, the future looked very bleak. But at the end of the day it was Ensiferums call to bite the bullet and pull ahead with the tour, and for that we cannot thank them enough.
"As disappointed as we were not being able to tour with those two amazing bands, their absences proved to be a blessing in disguise. Being bumped up to direct support might have been one of the best things to happen to us, and with the addition of Lazarus A.D we got to become friends with some of the most badass people we've ever met.
"Although the crowds might have been smaller overall, we got to play to more people every night and our new position on the tour certainly motivated us to step up our game.
"This tour being quite the contrast to our last tour (Summer slaughter) in pace and scale, it was a little more relaxed and offered us some more down time to breath. That being said here are some of my more memorable moments from 'from afar' More...

Lazarus A.D.'s Jeff Paulick checks in from the road!
"What's good dwellers of the Lazarus legion?!? Giving you a quick update from the road on our last-second venture with Ensiferum and Blackguard. Shit has been pretty awesome thus far. We left late Friday night, after the guys went and saw Job for a Cowboy, Gwar, and LoG in our hometown, the show was pretty fucking sick, headed off to Allentown, PA where the infamous Croc Rock pizza awaited...it wasn't so hot haha! We really had no idea what to expect as this tour as it's a little bit different genre-wise. It's been hit or miss, but for the most part I think it's getting through. Hopefully Peter and Alexi can get into the country asap so Hypocrisy can start tearing it up every night as well!
"The second night we played at Volume 11 in Raleigh, NC...and we have a little history there. As our previous three visits we laid a goose egg on merch every time, this time through, we finally got some good merch sales and had some very generous friends smoke us out, which meant our perception of Volume 11 did a huge 180! We grilled out that night with the guys from Blackguard (totally awesome brothers and an amazing band, definitely check them out!) shared a bottle of Jay-mo and woke to the sound of angry businessmen telling us to move our vehicle from their parking lot. We obviously denied the mess of beer cans strewn about the outside of the bus haha, but hey, I didn't know anything about that!!
"After Atlanta we drove straight to Jacksonville, FL where some friends of ours reside, just dodging Ida on the way, very lucky there, our bus and trailer don't mix with tropical storms. Our show was cancelled in Ft. Lauderdale which totally blew cuz we all were really looking forward to heading to the beach down south. SO, we made up for it and spent the day at Universal Studios, and needless to say, it was fucking awesome. Most of us had never been there before and it's easily one of the most fun parks I've ever been to. It was a pretty cloudy day so NOBODY was there; we went on everything multiple times through. We shared some drinks and lunch at the Hard Rock (we saw Dime's Crown Royal Guitar and Vinnie's full Pearl set used at the show where Dime was shot, pretty intense shit). Met up with the guys from Blackguard and hit some coasters with them. We grabbed a hotel and passed the fuck out as I had been up for 36 hours straight ensuring we could make this awesome day happen in time.
"Last night was Orlando, FUCK downtown Orlando parking. We had to park a mile away after we unloaded, after we played had to come back again, and then there was some confusion with payment as we were playing this Anti Pop festival, which had a million shows going on, the city was fucking packed, so we sat double parked on a one way street in front of the venue until payment was received haha...and it was.
"Long drive ahead to Texas and then to CALI!! Can't fucking wait, I'll be throwing some more updates at ya next week, until then spread the word that we are on "The Tour from Afar" with Ensiferum, Hypocrisy, and Blackguard, then hopping on with Vader and Warbringer for a couple weeks, see all you fucks on the road!!! Oh and there's a video coming soon of what we do most while on the road...COD...constantly haha! Light em up and drink em down!"

This is going to be a great tour an it’s hitting cities we have played in the past and new cities we have yet to play. We are looking forward seeing old can’t friends and making new friends. So you better break out the weed & beer - Lazarus A.D. is back on the mother f*$&^@# road.”

Lazarus A.D. has issued the following recap of the Loud Park Festival in Japan:
"Lazarus A.D. recently returned from their first ever trip overseas to Japan’s Loud Park festival in Tokyo. Needless to say, the band had an amazing experience. They were the third band to play on the Big Rock stage on October 18th. The stage was headlined by Slayer and also featured Children Of Bodom, Hatebreed and Papa Roach among others. Lazarus A.D. sampled some foreign cuisine, was surprised by eager fans waiting at their hotel room door to sign autographs and take photos, and played to over 10,000 people. Multiple circle pits tore through the crowd as Jeff Paulick, Dan Gapen, Alex Lackner and Ryan Shutler played their music overseas for the first time."
Lead guitarist Dan Gapen also added: “Loud Park was a blast! It was great sharing the stage with all those amazing bands. Not to mention having the chance to play in front of all the great people of Japan was a dream come true! We can’t wait to come back to Japan and get another chance to blow the roof off the motherfucker once again…”
Lazarus A.D. also has the following upcoming tour dates alongside Vader: More...
Lazarus A.D. has announced the following show in Milwaukee, WI with Gojira, Burst and Zoroaster:
"We have a warm up show at the Rave on October 7th. We are direct support for Gojira, and if you haven't heard they are touring with Metallica right now. We will be selling tickets for $12, which is cheaper than the door! Message us for tickets and info, and let's make this a kickass show! We will be unveiling some new material for you before we head off to Japan for Loud Park!"
Lazarus A.D. just premiered the new video for "Revolution," off the latest album, "The Onslaught.." Check out the video at www.ultimate-guitar.tv
Metal Blade Records has issued the following statement about Lazarus A.D. debuting a new music video for the song "Revolution" on Ultimate-Guitar.tv tomorrow:
"Lazarus A.D. filmed a new live video for Revolution this summer at Milwaukee, WI's famed Summerfest. They played on Friday, June 26th as direct support to Burn Halo and Saliva in front of hordes of rabid metal/rock fans. Despite the brutally humid and hot summer heat, Lazarus A.D. unleashed their acclaimed in your face live performance. Watch the video to see for yourself! Fans can see the video here starting tomorrow, September 23rd, at 9am pacific time. The Onslaught is available everywhere now!"
Guitarist Dan Gapen also issued the following statement about the video:
"What's up everybody? First and foremost I just wanna say we miss all you guys and can't wait to get back on the road and rock again. Since we do have downtime though, we want to let all you guys know what we've been up to, beginning with our new video. The video is for the song 'Revolution.' It is a live video with footage taken from a show that we played at Summerfest; the world's largest music festival in Milwaukee Wisconsin on June 26th, 2009.The video was shot with 3 cameras by Vision 4 Films in front of a stellar crowd. I think the video is a great way of showing what we do in a live setting and gives you an overall feel of what we are as a live band. Oh and if you were at the show there are a decent amount of crowd shots so be sure to check yourself out.
"Next I wanted to discuss my hand. I got my cast removed on Tuesday and I am happy as hell!!! I had that son of a bitch on for 6 and a half weeks and I hated every minute of it. I was very relieved when I got the cast taken off and picked up my guitar and realized I could play pretty much exactly how I did before. This is great because I was afraid that I would have to go through some type of bullshit therapy to gain my strength back but for some reason or another, my playing wasn't really affected by the break. We are going to start practicing again this week and I can't wait.
"Also, in this time off we will be writing some new songs and hopefully going into the studio to record some rough production demos of material that will possibly be on our sophomore album!!! Well that's all for now. Until next time, keep blazin' up and drinkin' down!"
Bassist/vocalist Jeff Paulick of Lazarus A.D. has issued the following update about working on new material:
“What the fuck is up! Just issuing a little update here; we have been home for about a month now since our last tour with Bison and Woe of Tyrants. The tour was great, especially Canada, but it ended slightly short with Dan breaking his hand. But, we will have you know, the hand is fine and has about 2 weeks left to heal and things will be better than ever. He has still been playing guitar as much as possible and actually has been practicing his finger picking techniques as thats about all he can do with his right hand right now haha! Nonetheless, Alex and I have been hard at work writing new material as well and we will resume writing in a couple weeks as a band. We have some down time here and are going to make the best of it. I can assure you the new material we have been jamming on is much more mature and we simply can't wait to get back into the studio. But more touring is in the works b4 that happens, rest assured.
"We obviously have Loud Park coming up and we are extremely stoked on that. Traveling to other countries and performing is a great feeling, the paperwork and process however is not! It takes alot of time and shit as a musician you just don’t want to deal with, but another good reason we are currently home. After Japan we have some things being thrown around, hopefully another US tour to wrap up the year and then back to the grind after the holidays. A couple more music videos are being put together, be on the lookout for that. We have some great HD footage of our gig at Milwaukee’s Summerfest which will be made into a live video very shortly here. Other than that, keep checkin back for updates and we will see everyone out there after we undoubtedly return home hungover and jet lagged to shit from Japan!!!”
Tonight's stop of the Baptized In Beer Tour will be streaming live from The Muse in Nashville, Tennessee tonight. The show will be starting shortly, so head over to themusenashville.com and keep an eye on the player for the show to start. Make sure to hit refresh to make sure you’re looking at the most current view of the page. Playing live tonight will be Woe Of Tyrants, Lazarus A.D., followed by Bison b.c.
