"Summer Breeze has already survived a few tremors over the last few years, but the most severe eruption of them all is yet to come. No other band out there combines the attitude and aggression of hardcore and the uncompromising heaviness of metal in such a perfect way. Moonsorrow has issued the following announcement about entering the studio to record a new album:
"On Thor's day, September 2nd, Moonsorrow will finally enter the studio to record their next full length album! We have been working on the new material throughout the summer, and despite the extremely hot weather we've had in Finland, none of it is present in the atmosphere of the new songs. This stuff is Cold, Heavy and Crushing.
"Lyrically we're dealing with life after the end of the world, so there is no light at the end of that tunnel either. The album will be recorded in various studios around Finland and it will be released in late February 2011. Check out the studio diary for daily - or almost daily - updating at this location."
Marko Tarvonen, drummer for Moonsorrow and Barren Earth, has started a new blog through Modern Drummer's website. An excerpt from the latest entry follows:
Marko Tarvonen is my name, and I’m writing from Detroit. I’m on tour with my band Moonsorrow. We come from Finland and play epic melodic metal with some black metal influences mixed with some folkish and progressive rock touches. On the bill are also Finntroll and Swallow The Sun, so this really is a Finnish metal tour. I believe it’s the first time something like this is going on in the North America. So far the response has been really great. Thanks so much to our fans in U.S.A. and Canada!
I started to play the drums when I was seven years old. My mother thought I had some potential to become a drummer, so my parents bought me my first drumset. That same year, 1985, I entered the Pop & Jazz Conservatory in Helsinki. I took lessons there for just over ten years, until I decided to quit because of lack of time and a growing interest to form my own bands playing my own tunes and such. After my teenage metal years I really got into progressive rock and started to admire drummers like Bill Bruford, Carl Palmer, and Phil Collins—quite the obvious choices from the British prog scene. They influenced the playing style that I have today. Even though I hit hard playing in metal bands, I’ve kept my proper technique, and that really helps with the physics of your body—no problems with your hands, feet, or back when you keep the basic technique and posture together.More...

Such a great festival with so many brilliant bands so if you wanna see us playing the same ol' shit before the next album you better be there headbanging to Pimeä or even Aurinko ja Kuu or then just to chill out with your friends. Let's drink some best Czech beer in the world and have some big fun once more before the studio torture starts in September. ARE YOU WITH US??????????????? Alright I'll shut up then...."

Finnish metallers Moonsorrow have issued the following announcement about canceling their November 14th tour date:
"Moonsorrow's show in Bulgaria canceled!! We are very sorry to announce that we had to cancel our show in Sofia on November 14th. Our bassist/vocalist Ville Sorvali's back had to be operated in an emergency situation. An intervertebral disc in his back was ruptured resulting in a pinched spinal nerve, so he could not even walk for days. The operation went smoothly and he should recover in time for the shows in Russia. We are extremely sorry about the cancellation and we hope to play in Bulgaria sometime later! Any pre-ordered tickets will be refunded by the organizer."
The new Barren Earth minisite is now online, including band and release information and audio samples from their debut EP, "Our Twilight," which is due out November 9th (11th Finland, 17th US).
With former members of Amorphis, plus current members of Swallow the Sun, Moonsorrow, and Kreator, Finland’s Barren Earth presents this 4-track EP of progressive and folk textured death metal.
The CD is now available to pre-order here.

Of course more bands take part in this great tour: Unleashed, Alestorm, Ex Deo and our old Paganfest friends Swashbuckle. During some evenings we will have special guests, like our fellow countrymen Moonsorrow and Norway’s Einherjer.

On Monday May 4th, 2009 I went to the Blender Theater at Gramercy in New York City to see Paganfest 2, which featured Korpiklaani, Primordial, Moonsorrow, Blackguard, and Swashbuckle. The venue featured movie theater style seating in the back and a comparably small general admission area. The crowd had already packed in well as the first band took the stage. More...
