Korpiklaani And Moonsorrow Pillage London

North London is no stranger to heavy metal shows, with venues like the Underworld, the Koko and the Electric Ballroom (all in Camden) regularly hosting bands from the genre. The 02 Academy in Islington has really been spoiling fans of the genre this week however as only a day after Udo Dirkschneider and Anvil graced the stage (see review here,) two of Finland's most beloved bands docked in the capital to treat the Islington crowd to a grand but highly enjoyable night of pagan metal.

I arrived at the venue to find that Moonsorrow had just started, opening with the title track from their new album, "Jumalten Aika" and immediately capturing the attention of the crowd, who had packed this relatively small but still impressive concert hall. The band are a seriously impressive live act, in addition to their complex compositions, somehow creating images in the mind despite their striking stage presence. Just listening to songs like "Suden Tunti" and "Jotunheim," I could practically see the Viking vessels arriving on the shores of England (I'm glad they weren't really, the Vikings took all our hot women to Iceland last time they showed up.) Moonsorrow Posts "Suden Tunti" Video

Moonsorrow just released an an imated video for "Suden Tunti," which can be seen below, and Ville Sorvali comments:

"Here we have something big! A new song 'Suden Tunti' and it's official music video! This is the shortest song we've done in more than ten years! It has all the elements that make it a Moonsorrow track but it's still something we hadn't done before. This is the dark side of folk metal - the epic battle of Fenris and Odin from a new perspective."

“This is the day we never thought would come. We never thought we would release an official
Moonsorrow music video,” adds Mitja Harvilahti. “Writing music without compromises is hard enough. Making a video that catches the same spirit without compromises and awkward moments that takes away the credibility is even harder! We had a thought for some time that only an animated video with enough artistic flavor would work. Since Suden Tunti is somewhat based on actual myths it was possible to create the world where the script takes place!”

Moonsorrow's seventh studio album "Jumalten Aika" - which means "The Age Of Gods| in English

Moonsorrow Covers Rotting Christ

On April 1st, 2016, Finnish pagan metal act Moonsorrow will release a brand-new, seventh studio album titled "Jumalten Aika" - which means "The Age Of Gods" in English - via Century Media Records.

The 2CD formats come with a strictly limited patch as well as a bonus disc including cover versions of Grave's "Soulless" and also Rotting Christs's "Non Serviam," for which the band just launched a static video.

Moonsorrows: Henri Sorvali comments: "WE DO NOT SERVE. Everyone in Moonsorrow has been a great Rotting Christ-fan since the early 90´s and with our version of this song we wanted not only to honor the band but also give the credit how much we have been influenced by them throughout our history. With our hails and deepest respect to our brothers in Hellas, we proudly present our interpretation of their creation: Non Serviam."

Rotting Christ frontman Sakis Tolis adds: "The Non Serviam dictum is more topical than ever nowadays and we are more than honored, that the Great Finish Pagan Metal Warriors, Moonsorrow, have honored it and gave their own vision on how our early 90's song can also sound nowadays. We all in the band find their creation amazing and we send our respect to the north. Keep the spirit alive!" More...

Blood Music Comments On Problems With Paypal

Apparently that huge Moonsorrow LP box set has caused Blood Music a good deal of trouble with orders placed via Paypal. The label had this to say about the situation:

"People - we need your help!! We have a very, VERY serious issue. We are having and have been having massive issues with PayPal for a long time, and it's finally hit its worst possible point. We've tried to stay very quiet about these issues, to keep calm in order to play by their rules, but things are finally far out of hand.

"Once the Moonsorrow box set (an item that averaged around 300 EUR per unit) went for sale - they froze all money in our PayPal account (do the math), including a fair chunk of money from sales before the box set that have long since been shipped out.

"They demanded loads of paperwork, to which we obliged, and they released a very small portion so that we could continue our operations. That money lasted only a very short time, and we wound up having to pay a huge chunk of the box set out of our own pockets, with the promise that the rest of the money would be released once all material was shipped.

"All box sets have been shipped and most have been received by now, and they are still holding onto basically ALL OF THE LABEL'S MONEY NOW. More...

Moonsorrow Signs With Century Media

Finnish crusaders of epic heathen metal, Moonsorrow, and Century Media Records are proud to announce a worldwide deal. In regards to the signing, the band comments: "Moonsorrow is thrilled to start working with Century Media, a label that is home to many fellow artists already! We never make our music half way or with compromises and we know our art is in good hands with people who have the same mentality in running a record label. Now, after a year since the release of our last album we are ready to begin creating something new. The new chapter in this epic journey of Moonsorrow!"

Jens Prueter, Head Of A&R at Century Media Europe also says: "I followed Moonsorrow since their early days and I'm very proud to welcome them now to Century Media Records. They'll be in good family along with their countrymen Finntroll, Turisas, and Insomnium. Two of the band members already have some history with us: Henri Sorvali is also part of Finntroll (even if he rarely plays live with any band) and Marko Tarvonen once moved from drums to guitar in the overlooked Death Metal allstar band Chaosbreed, who released an album that is as 'brutal' as its title.

"Much has been said about the dark soul of Finnish Metal. A sound that is hard to copy for any non-domestic band. A sound out of endless woods, deepest sorrow and epic majesty. Moonsorrow is probably the most epic of all Finnish bands, not only because most of their songs are over 10 minutes long (sometimes even over 30 minutes), but mainly because they are able to tell stories that are older than written culture. You can follow them even if you don't understand a single Finnish word. Moonsorrow is able to take you on journey through heathen times. I'm guessing I'm not the only one who can't wait for the next chapter." More...
