Vocalist Niko Kalliojärvi Re-Joins Amoral

Helsinki-based Amoral is now a six-piece, with original vocalist Niko Kalliojärvi returning to the lineup. Kalliojärvi's return has been cooking up since last year, and he will be largely present on the band's 7th studio album, on which they are working at the moment, with an early 2016 release planned.

”Damnation! The Amoral gigs I've done cameos at during the last few years have been fun experiences, so when I was asked to come back to the group, I was both surprised and excited. For musical reasons, but also since I've always been comfortable in said company”, Kalliojärvi says.

Niko continues: ”The new lineup let's us realize musical ideas in a whole new way. The more I've been thinking about it, the more it makes sense. Amoral has been broadening it's sound pallette throughout it's history – now, more than ever, we have a whole pack of aces up our sleeves!”

Songwriter and guitarist Ben Varon also sees the new possibilities that Kalliojärvi's return bring to the band.

”Niko's company felt natural both onstage and backstage, and hearing his voice -which I've always said is one of my all-time favorite growls - on those songs after a long while felt good”, Ben says.

”And once I realized what a great guitarist Niko is these days, the vision started to get clearer: this would be just the thing to take our musical journey to the next level! Two singers, three guitar players, one of which is now a part-time keyboardist... Things just got interesting!”

Amoral's new lineup will make it's live debut at the Tuska Metal Festival afterparty in the end of June. More...

Amoral Streaming The Cure Cover, Announces Album

Amoral - Finnish ambassador of classic rock for the 21st century - ends the year with a little surprise for fans. Recorded at the ”Fallen Leaves & Dead Sparrows” sessions, the band's version of The Cure's ”Burn” is now available online.

”I've been a huge fan of the song ever since I heard it in The Crow film back in 1994,” says guitarist Ben Varon, ”and once Masi (Hukari) admitted to be another big fan of the tune, we began the not-so-subtle lobbying of it to the rest of the guys. Luckily they got aboard as well, as I think the cover turned out quite cool. Especially vocal producer Marco Hietala's ideas for the vocal lines helped give the song a little twist of it's own, even though we decided to otherwise keep the arrangement fairly close to the original.”

Amoral is currently getting ready to record a 7th album, with tracking starting in February at Sound Supreme studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland. The band is aiming for a late 2015 release. More...

Tuska Open Air Metal Festival 2012 , Day 2

And then it was Saturday! Day two of Tuska again started a bit earlier then the hungover and tired festival goers may have wished but the drowsy vibes quickly vanished (though not the rain clouds) as the day started on a much folkier note. Tuska Day Two promised another heavy day of good music, good people and the summer vibe that has Finns and Non Finn's coming from all over to partake in the festivities.

First up today was Estonian folk metallers Metsätöll! I have been excited to see these guys for years now and it was with bated breath that I entered the photo pit this morning! And here I will be a bit blasphemous and state that Lauri (Varulven) Õunapuu is quite simply a god of folk instruments. Throughout the set he seamlessly switched from bagpipes, to flutes, and numerous stringed Estonian folk instruments. Each one was expertly played and gave the performance a mysterious lovely quality. The Estonian language is quite obviously similar to Finnish, and in fact singer Markus "Rabapagan" Teeäär wows the predominantly Finnish crowd (and presumably wins their hearts) by speaking to them in Finnish. It needs to be said: his accent is much better than mine. Metsätöll is one of those folk metal bands that clearly love what they do, and though the music is fun and foly as ever, there is a lovely mysterious undertone that lends one’s mind to thinking thoughts of dark forests and legends of old. Amoral Completes Work On New Album

Finnish metal/hard rock outfit Amoral has completed work on it's 5th studio album. "Beneath" was recorded at Sound Supreme studios in Hämeenlinna, Finland, and was produced by Janne Saksa and guitarist Ben Varon. The album will be released in late 2011, with the first single out by the beginning of summer.

"I'd describe the album as three steps forward, one step back," says Varon. "There are several nods to our past in form of long songs, intricate riffs and growling vocals. But the main focus is still on the strong melodies, big choruses and catchy riffs, just as was on our last album 'Show Your Colors'."

"Beneath" marks the first time new guitarist Masi Hukari has recorded with the band. Hukari - who joined the group late in the songwriting process - immediately wrote two songs together with Varon, both which ended on the album. Another first is that, from now on, Amoral has two lead guitar players.

"Masi is such a talent, it would have been a crime to make him 'just' the rhythm guitarist. It's been killer to be able to do lead trade-off for the first time in the band's history, for example. Masi is responsible for many of the guitar highlights of the album," Ben declares. More...

Amoral Recruits New Guitarist

Finland's Amoral has issued the following announcement about recruiting a new guitarist and starting work on a new album:

"We are happy to announce that Amoral has a new guitar player! As announced when Valtteri came in as a session guy to help us out with the gigs, he could not commit to being a full-time member, due to his hectic shedule as a hot-shot photographer. So we've been keeping our eyes open all this time to see if we could find someone worthy to join the band. And now we have! Enter Masi Hukari, six-string slinger from many a project and band over the years. Ben and Ari had already met Masi a few times before, so we knew him to be a cool dude, and the word on the street was that the boy could play! After a couple of long chats to see that we were on the same page, we picked up our guitars and two new songs came together in no time. So that was that! We all agreed that this could definitely be our guy, and so it is that we'll be entering the studio as a five-piece to record album number five.

"The Amoral Street Team conducted an interview with Masi to give you all a better idea of who this new guys is and what he is made of. Ben also answered some questions the teamers had regarding the upcoming album. Check out the interview here. A little fact file on Masi can be found at the band-section of our website, and he's also answering questions you guys might have on our forum, so feel free to bug him!

"In other news: Recording of the 5th Amoral album starts NOW! The next month will be spent at Sound Supreme Studios in Hämeenlinna, under strict supervision of our producer Janne Saksa. You can follow the studio session from our new studio blog, which will be frequently updated with pictures and witty remarks at this location."

Amoral Writing New Material

Amoral has checked in with the following update about working on new material:

"The last Amoral show of 2010 at On the Rocks, Helsinki was a blast, thanks to all of you who attended, especially you who traveled from other countries to be there! It was fun trying out some new songs on you people. Special thanks to Juhani Flinck from Dead Shape Figure, who filled in for Wally in a week's notice! Mad props!

"Other than that, the writing and fine-tuning of the new material has been getting along good. We have about 13 songs written as of now, and still more keep popping up. It looks like we'll be heading to the studio in April/May, with a possible late 2011 release. Yes, it's a bitch of a wait, we know, but we promise it's gonna be worth it! We'll try to post some more demo session/rehearsal footage as we go along, to give you guys an idea of where we are at.

"As for the new stuff: like I said, we already have more than an album's worth of material, so we're gonna have a lot to choose from by the time we hit the studio. The material is all over the place style-wise, from the chillest acoustic stuff to fast death metal, with lots of solid hard rockin' metal in between. So expect versatility! More...

"The very first show we played after recording Show Your Colors was a secret gig at Helsinki's On the Rocks. This gig on saturday, October 23rd is gonna be a special "an evening with" -party, as we're gonna fuck around with the setlist a lot, with unusual tunes from our back catalogue, as well as throwing in some odd cover songs. And who knows, you just might hear some new material for the very first time...

"So, mark your calendars: Amoral @ On the Rocks, Helsinki, saturday 23rd of October. See you there!"
