Unearthing The Experimental Metal Underground

Metal has long been defined by a variety of regimented and easily recognizable genres, such as thrash, death, black, etc. Most bands bring in a few outside influences to keep the music fresh and prevent a total adherence to one particular idea, but there is now a rising tide of bands that ditch the idea of a single style altogether. Going by names such as “avant-garde” or “experimental” or “post-any genre you’d like,” they may start with a base that is familiar, but their overall sound is far too fluid to stick to one identifier. Bands such as Peccatum and Unexpect are some of the most well known in the style (“well known” being entirely relative here), but a growing number of underground experimental bands are still out there, waiting to be found by the metal masses. Viscera/// Comments On New Album

Italy's Viscera/// has issued the following update about the releasing "2 - As Zeitgeist Becomes Profusion of the I," the band's new album:

"Since its inception in 2000, Viscera/// strayed quite a bit from the grind paths they were threading. What started out as a straightforward brutalcore band meandered into an experimental quartet. With the introduction of psychedelic sounds, postcore bits and ambient/drone pieces it's quite easy to brand this outfit as the next 'post'-band.

"But there's more that meets the eye: The band never completely let go of their roots, balancing brutal grindcore with delicate post metal influences. This results in a truly unique sound that can shift from fragile to frenzy in a heartbeat. With this latest effort, 2 - As Zeitgeist Becomes Profusion of the I, these Italians produced their most ambitious and mature offering to this day which makes it the most complex yet accessible listening experience Viscera/// ever offered.

"There is a special edition limited to 100 copies, which comes in a DVD sized digipack and this will be only available directly through the label. You can pre-order this special edition from this day forward for 15 euro (p&p worldwide included). The CD itself will be released on October 31st."
