Goatwhore Reveals New Album Details
Storming into their twenty-fifth year as purveyors of the most ruthless extreme metal, Goatwhore returns with their long-awaited new full-length, "Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven," set for release on October 7th via Metal Blade Records!
Unquestionably their strongest, most accomplished album to date in sound, concept, and execution, "Angels Hung From The Arches Of Heaven" emits forty-seven desolating minutes of the band‘s trademark fusion of death, black, thrash, and classic metal. Delivered with breathless intensity and an unapologetic bloodlust, the twelve-track offering stands among the most thrilling records to come out of 2022. “I would describe this record as being very raw, but clarity is shaped within the chaos,” reflects vocalist Louis Ben Falgoust II. “It‘s a journey of everything we‘ve done and some new approaches as we advance forward. When we write, we mainly focus on the music and what we enjoy about playing it. We don‘t write just to appease others. We want to enjoy playing it in a live setting as well, especially night after night on the road.”
Featuring ferocious beasts like the maniacally thrashing “Born Of Satan‘s Flesh,” the oldschool, crossover flavored “Death From Above” with its guttural chorus, and a monolithic title track that is as haunting as it is heavy, the band – Falgoust, guitarist/vocalist Sammy Duet, drummer Zack Simmons, and bassist Robert “TA” Coleman (his first recorded output with the band) – covers a great deal of sonic terrain while retaining that signature, nefarious Goatwhore aura. With an overall tone described by Duet as “dark and evil” with a perpetual sentiment of “impending dread,” the record allows little light to cling to. More...

Goatwhore Levels Mesa, AZ On First Night Of Tour
“An End to Nothing” was the song Goatwhore chose to kick off their set during their most recent stop in Mesa, Arizona. That was the perfect play on words considering the Goatwhore touring machine was shut down for a couple of years by the pandemic. The extreme metal masses have missed them without a doubt and their fanbase in Arizona was no exception.
Tonight, Goatwhore played like they were shot out of a cannon. The energy level after a two-year hiatus from touring was evident. Their set only consisted of seven songs, but it felt like there were 666 of them. We relished every second of it. Every note lasted forever and every beat was in slo-mo like “The Matrix.” It was the first night of the tour but they played it with such intensity, it had the feel as if it was their last show ever.
If you’ve never been to a Goatwhore show, they exude a ton of energy and it flows non-stop between band and audience. Ben Falgoust is one of the most underrated frontmen in metal. He’s constantly interacting with the audience and egging them on. Sammy Duet, sounds like he’s playing two guitars since his rhythms and leads are so tight and crunchy throughout each and every song. The rhythm section anchored by Zack Simmons and Robert Coleman are the cement thickening all this heaviness into one amazing must see, live band.
Even with just a seven song set-list, the band just about touched on every album within their discography. Every generation of Goatwhore fan was fulfilled. I was super stoked to hear that “Apocalyptic Havoc” made the cut. This is my favorite of all Goatwhore tracks and in my opinion, should always be included in their set-list. It should come as no surprise that the show’s closer was “FBS,” definitely “Le Roi” of all Goatwhore tracks. The Mesa, Arizona audience responded in earnest and their reaction was the high that Goatwhore needed to carry onto the next stop and beyond. Laissez le bon temps rouler! More...

Emily Hingle Details New Book "Bandroom"
In February 2015 on a cold Carnival night, Emily Hingle got the idea to document the practice spaces of the bands and musicians of New Orleans. She had already visited some spaces where bands spend hours upon hours practicing and perfecting their craft, and she was inspired by the amount of hard work that goes into creating the music that is eventually performed on stage in front of dancing fans. These spaces and the massive effort that happens within them, she believed, deserved part of the glory garnered by the music itself.
"I feel like people love the aesthetic of music: going out to the show, grabbing drinks at the bar, dancing with your friends. That’s obviously an important aspect of music. But not as many people want to hear about how it gets made. I find the creation of it to be enthralling. Where it’s made, how long it takes, all of the emotion, arguments, and relationships that goes into it. Music isn’t made in a vacuum or out of nothing. It takes a lot of life."
Over the course of the next five years, Emily and her photographers visited nearly 50 distinct rehearsal spaces, jam rooms, studios, and homes to photograph the spaces and interview those who work there. In Band Room: New Orleans, the reader will be a visitor in 35 such spaces speaking with the likes of Tarriona Ball from Tank & The Bangas, Big Freedia, Sweet Crude, Kumasi, The Lost Bayou Ramblers, Robin Barnes & Pat Casey, Flowtribe, and many more.
Band Room: New Orleans is 296 pages of photography and text. It is self-published and available in hardcover and softcover versions. Emily Hingle is a Louisiana native; born in Lafayette, raised in Mandeville, and living currently in New Orleans. She has always had a passion for her state’s culture, especially music. She began interviewing bands while in college at the University of New Orleans for various websites, then she started writing for Where Y’at Magazine in 2010.
"I really want Band Room to be the beginning of something bigger. I feel like it is already. New Orleans, however, will always be the best because it’s home."
"Band Room: New Orleans" is currently available for purchase at Emily’s website https://culturecreep.net/, and it will be available in local retailers beginning in November just in time for gifting season.
