Chicago deathcore band OCEANO is heading back into the studio to record their follow-up to their 2009 debut album "Depths." Set for release later this year, the new album will tell a story that promises to open eyes and deliver a more mature experience than many might normally expect. "Expect us to go DEEPER than DEPTHS this time around, and NOT just meaning heavier;" says vocalist, Adam Warren. "This is more than just our sophomore album. It is a great vision to be accomplished when all of the pieces we've worked so hard to create - art, music, lyrics and overall atmosphere - come together."
In order to make OCEANO's vision a reality, the band has enlisted the help of Zeuss to produce the record. Zeuss, one of the most well regarded producers in metal today, has worked with acts like MUNICIPAL WASTE, THE ACACIA STRAIN, HATEBREED and SHADOWS FALL. Known for exponentially increasing an act's natural abilities while in the studio, Zeuss is enthusiastic at the chance to take OCEANO to the next level. "I'm really excited to be working on the new Oceano record.;" says the Springfield, MA-based producer. "I see this as a great opportunity to work with one of the truly talented up and coming bands in the metal genre." Knowing how important it is to extend the band's reach from within their already dominant grasp on the deathcore scene, Zeuss adds; "I look fo rward to pushing the band to their full potential and making them stand above the rest."

Paul Ablaze of Montreal's Blackguard has checked in with the following recap of the From Afar tour, headlined by Ensiferum this past fall:
"Another tour in the Bag , Another notch on the belt , and Another round of good times were had by all.
"For a tour that seemed destined to fall apart on itself just before it's start, I believe it exceeded all expectation by a long shot. With Ex Deo pulling out for the majority of the tour and Hypocrisy having to bail all together, the future looked very bleak. But at the end of the day it was Ensiferums call to bite the bullet and pull ahead with the tour, and for that we cannot thank them enough.
"As disappointed as we were not being able to tour with those two amazing bands, their absences proved to be a blessing in disguise. Being bumped up to direct support might have been one of the best things to happen to us, and with the addition of Lazarus A.D we got to become friends with some of the most badass people we've ever met.
"Although the crowds might have been smaller overall, we got to play to more people every night and our new position on the tour certainly motivated us to step up our game.
"This tour being quite the contrast to our last tour (Summer slaughter) in pace and scale, it was a little more relaxed and offered us some more down time to breath. That being said here are some of my more memorable moments from 'from afar' More...

Oceano, a Chicago-based deathcore band, premiered its first-ever music video on television, Saturday night exclusively on MTV2's Headbangers Ball where it was played at the beginning of the hour. The video has since been posted online, and can be viewed at Headbangersblog.com.
Shot last month in Los Angeles, CA, "District of Misery" was directed by Patrick Guera (DIFFICULT HENRY, HARD ECHO) and produced by Brian Thompson at The Vault LA (MUNICIPAL WASTE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, AS I LAY DYING), the video was shot in a converted LA warehouse and will see OCEANO playing the song alongside a twisted photographic interpretation of each lyrical line as it is growled.
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Chicago based metallers Oceano are set to release their upcoming album "Depths" on April 7th. The album will also be packaged with a bonus DVD featuring live footage. The band has released a teaser trailer for the DVD which can be viewed below.
Oceano, who recently topped the Myspace charts, has announced that they will be filming a music video for their song "District Of Misery" today in Los Angeles, California.
The video will see Oceano playing the song alongside a twisted photographic interpretation of each lyrical line as it is growled. The director's vision for the photographic concept is a compelling choice for a band who's image already relies on dark intensity. "Me (Patrick Guera) and my director of photography shot some more surrealistic stuff to accentuate the brutality." As for exactly what imagery will be used;", says Guera as the directorslyly hints at some of the specific imagery. "I use a lot of gnarled branches, some human props, I don't want to give too much away. The visuals will speak for themselves."
"The video is mostly based around Oceano's performance," says Guera, "they are really brutal so we are going to accentuate that in the way we shoot them, covering them from all angles, matching our movement to the change ups in the song."

Chicago deathcore band OCEANO has parted ways with founding member and guitarist, Jeremy Caroll and plans to continue on with their upcoming tours as a 4-piece act. Vocalist, Adam Warren released this statement on the matter:
"As many of you may have, or have not noticed, our guitarist Jeremy was recently taken off the Oceano page. This is because as of this week, the decision was made to part ways with long time/original member.
"For those who seem to care, here is a summary of WHY this decision was made: (This is the FULL, NO BULLSHIT reasoning and explanation on this matter so PLEASE don't waste your time asking us about it.)
"Within our past few tours tension had seemingly grew above that of a typical level for a band touring the country cramped in a van. Over the past months certain members of the band we're beginning to really "butt heads" and clash with Jeremy on a personality level, to a point where tour was almost becoming more of a burden to deal with the stress levels and having to diffuse each others frustrations from this. Things apparently increased to the point of taking such action. Atop that, it was felt that coming from a professional level he did not represent the band well at times when it counted most. More...
