Sepultura Reveals Album's Track Listing

Sepultura's new album "The Mediator Between Head And Hands Must Be The Heart" is set for European release on October 25th via Nuclear Blast.

The artwork was created by Brazilian artist Alexandre Wagner, who specializes in charcoal drawing techniques. The band has now revealed the track listing, which is available after the jump.

In preparing the statements below, Sepultura guitarist Andreas Kisser & artist Alexandre Wagner collaborated with Brazilian journalist Emanuel Leite, Jr. to gather their thoughts. Here, Kisser reveals how he discovered the work of Alexandre Wagner:

"It was an indication of Silvio Bibika, who was my roadie for a long time. He always shows me things in general that Sepultura might need. He told me about Alexandre - who is from Belo Horizonte [in Brazil, where Sepultura was founded] - a year ago. So before we went to the United States to record the album, I was at his house to talk about the cover, tell him the album title, and talk about the concept of the film Metropolis so he could do something original. But when I saw the picture with the drawing, I thought it was all about what we wanted and we did not need something new. I also asked him to do a tribal ‘S’ in the cover’s style, which will be on the back cover."

Album artist Alexandre Wagner comments on his creation: "This series of work in charcoal drawing [for the album] I did when I still lived in Belo Horizonte. They were all made there and are quick drawings without much reference, almost an experimentation that may have come from a desire to use the most basic of basic materials - coal, paper and wood. The cover design was ready, Andreas saw and liked it. We talked a little more and I also sent some other pictures for the booklet. I was pleased with the choice of the theme of the album; I like [Austrian filmmaker] Fritz Lang very much and not to mention only Metropolis, but Dr. Mabuse der Spieler [Dr. Mabuse: The Gambler, Lang’s 1922 film] is a fucking movie!" Sepultura Announces New Album Title

Legendary brazilian act Sepultura has announced the title of the band's forthcoming album: "The Mediator Between the Head and Hands Must be the Heart."

Although being inspired by Fritz Lang's classic 1927 movie “Metropolis,” the release is not set out to be a concept album or a soundtrack like it's precedessors "Dante XXI" (“The Divine Comedy”) and "A-Lex" (“A Clockwork Orange”).

"The Mediator Between the Head and Hands Must be the Heart" was recorded together with sound guru Ross Robinson (who already had worked with the band on the landmark release "Roots" back in 1996).

The album is scheduled for a late October 2013 release via Nuclear Blast. Commented guitarist Andreas Kisser:

"I was inspired by a phrase which is the main message of the story: 'The mediator between the head and hands must be the heart' to express what we are saying on the lyrics. In the movie, a crazy millionaire wants to transform a robot into a real person. That's kind of the opposite of what we live today. More than ever we are robotized, through the worldwide web, Google glasses, chips under our skins and the globalized slavery our society suffers nowadays. The phrase points to the heart as being the human factor who keeps a man, a man, not a robot. The heart beats with freedom of choice, we have to think by ourselves to create a real world, not a matrix. More...

Sunday Old School 200: Monsters Of Rock

This week’s edition of Sunday Old School is a very special one because today sees Sunday Old School reach two hundred official articles! So to celebrate this little milestone of ours, I wanted to look back in rock and metal history and find a true landmark moment in the genre. A moment that let the world know that heavy music was here to stay and meant so much to so many. And nothing seemed like a bigger moment in general metal history than when promoter Paul Loasby teamed up with Maurice Jones and formed a festival, which was to be held at Donington Park in Leicestershire, England, and would be known as Monsters of Rock.

The one day event was initially scheduled to be a grand final date for Rainbow’s UK tour, a band whom Loasby had recently been promoting. Rainbow were joined at the inaugural event by established German rockers, the Scorpions, who had just released their seventh album, "Animal Magnetism" and Judas Priest, who were riding high thanks to the wildly successful, "British Steel" album. Also on the bill that day were heavy metal upstarts, Saxon, who were considered the leaders of the exciting young, New Wave of British Heavy Metal movement at the time, Canadian hard rock veterans, April Wine and New York openers Riot and Touch. The festival was a resounding success, drawing in thirty five thousand fans and a live compilation album, which sold well.

Although it was initially conceived only as a vehicle for Rainbow, it was announced on the day of the first edition that the festival would return the next year. AC/DC were to be the headliners in 1981, marking the first of their record holding three headline appearances at the event. It was a somewhat lighter tone in the sophomore year, where AC/DC were joined Whitesnake, American stars, Blue Oyster Cult and quite interestingly, British glam rock veterans, Slade, who had recently found favour with the heavy metal audience after a brief time out of the limelight. Rounding off the bill was Blackfoot, a Southern Rock band from Jacksonville, Florida and More, who were notable for featuring former Iron Maiden vocalist, Paul Day, as well as a DJ set from the BBC’s voice of rock, Tommy Vance. The varied lineups continued, with Status Quo (AKA, your nan’s favourite band) headlining the event in 1982, where they were joined by other established rockers such as Gillan, Uriah Heep and Hawkwind, as well as a young Canadian group named, Anvil and Monsters of Rock veterans, Saxon, who became the first band to appear twice, before Whitesnake closed the event in 1983, which also featured Meat Loaf and ZZ Top, who were placed higher than such heavy metal favourites as Dio, Diamond Head and Twisted Sister. Dave Lombardo To Guest On New Sepultura Album

In his latest studio diary, Sepultura guitarist, Andreas Kisser has confirmed that drummer, Dave Lombardo, who recently parted company with American thrash legends Slayer, will be appearing on the new, as-yet untitled, Sepultura record. An excerpt from his post reads as follows:

"Next morning we were preparing to record the second guitar when Ross received a message on his phone, he was really excited about it so he stopped everything to tell us what was going on: Dave Lombardo, the one and only ex-drummer from Slayer, also plays with Mike Patton on Phantomas, was real close to the studio with his kids and his dog enjoying some time at the beach, Ross asked if he would like to come to the studio and jam something on our album and he said YES! We were so excited, we could not believe that one of our great idols was ready to be a part of our new album.

"He came and it was so nice, so special, so awesome! He is one of the nicest guys in business and he enjoyed the idea a lot. Ross and Mike prepared two drum sets on the living room, facing each other, no cymbals, just tribal drums! When the mics were all ready and running Eloy and Dave started playing and the magic was on, so great! The part they recorded will be a special part on the middle of one of the songs, it came out crazy!

"We just have to thank Mr. Lombardo and his family for this opportunity. Thank you Dave, we will never forget this, it’s a real honor to have you on the album!"

Sepultura Guitarist Gives New Album Update

Sepultura guitarist, Andreas Kisser has posted a new message online confirming that the group's forthcoming new studio album, their first with drummer Eloy Casagrande, is half way to completion. His message reads as follows:

"We are flowing with the recording now, things are going great and we are capturing an amazing performance from Eloy (Casagrande; drums). Ross is a master on motivating a musician in the studio, he can find the right words and the right manner to say things, the songs grow so much. Every time we prepare to record a song we, the band and Ross, spend about 30 to 40 minutes talking about the theme of the lyrics, why we wrote what we wrote? They are incredible conversations and doing this we know ourselves better we know and each other better, we build a stronger band, a real unity. When we are ready to record all the ideas are fresh in our heads, with full meaning and strength, a process that making not only a great album but is making this band stronger.

"We have six songs recorded, is going in a rate of two songs a day and Ross is also giving important suggestions on some arrangements and directions, he is so sensitive and very close to nature, philosophical but real, very real. More...

Sepultura Frontman Speaks On New Album

In a recent interview with Kleanthis Papagiannopoulos of Rock Overdose, Sepultura frontman Derrick Green shed some light on the band's forthcoming, as-yet untitled new studio album, which will be the first with drummer Eloy Casagrande. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:

Green: "We have written most of the music already and now we are working on lyrics for the album. We should have everything ready before we hit the studio June 1st. The album is sounding really sinister, dark, and metal as hell! It's been great working with (drummer) Eloy (Casagrande) in the writing process because it brings a whole different energy to the music. The many changes that have been going on in our lives and in the world also add to the making of the new album. We hope to have it released around the end of October/November on Nuclear Blast."

Sepultura Announces Kickstarter Campaign

Brazilian thrash metal legends Sepultura have announced a campaign on Kickstarter to fund a band documentary. The film, which has been in a work in progress for the past few years, is said to chronicle the highs and lows of the band's entire nearly thirty year history, including tours, economic problems and personal conflicts. An excerpt from the Kickstarter page reads as follows:

"Finally: The long awaited documentary about Sepultua’s incredible journey from Brazil to the world. Filmmaker Otavio Juliano has been following Sepultura for the better part of 2010-2013, a time of tension and triumph for the band, as they toured and recorded their album Kairos. Nothing has been off-limits. This amazing story will go through Sepultura’s history, myths, conflicts, personnel changes and struggles with the Internet economy in the early 2000s as well interviews and rare footage. This documentary is certain to bring fans closer to the band they love.

"About 50% of the film has been shot so far. We have witnessed this historic band experiencing wrenching transformations and unprecedented growth. We opened Sepultura's vault and dig into the best rare and unseen footage of the last 30 years. We will see them at their most vulnerable and human, and also as idols of the heavy metal genre. Those elements make the overall film an uncommonly powerful statement."
