Lawnmower Deth Posts Christmas Video Online

British thrash veterans Lawnmower Deth has teamed up with pop star Kim Wilde to release their very own Christmas single, "F U Kristmas." The video for the song can be seen below. The relationship between the band and the singer stretches back to 1991 when Lawnmower Deth released a cover of Wilde's, "Kids In America," which she later claimed was her favourite version of the song. Last year, Wilde joined Lawnmower Deth on stage to perform "Kids In America," as well as, "Egg Sandwich" and "Watch Out Grandma," while Lawnmower Deth will be appearing at Wilde's Christmas show in Manchester this month (December 22nd.) Lawnmower Deth To Release Christmas Single

British thrash metal favourites Lawnmower Deth has announced that they have teamed up with pop star Kim Wilde to release a new single in time for the holidays, entitled, "F U Kristmas." The song will be released on December 1st through Wildflower Records. While it may sound like a strange partnership, the East Midlands group caught the attention of Wilde when they released a cover of her hit song, "Kids In America" in 1991, which she claimed was her favourite rendition of the track. She also joined Lawnmower Deth on stage at Download festival last year and claims that after that, a collaboration was inevitable.

The project is hoping to reach the coveted Christmas number one spot in the U.K., though bookmaker William Hill is offering odds of 25/1 on it happening. Wilde has previously add festive success however, when she worked with comedian Mel Smith on a rendition of "Rocking Around the Christmas Tree" in 1987, which reached number three in the singles chart and raised money for the Comic Relief charity.

Wilde stated: "Lawnmower Deth came up with the idea of us collaborating on a Christmas tune and I said yes immediately, feeling our worlds had become inextricably linked."

Lawnmower Deth vocalist Pete Lee claims that the single is "the greatest project we’ve been involved in" and added: "Working on a Christmas single together, some would say it’s the most bizarre juxtaposition since KLF and Extreme Noise Terror at the Brit Awards. I prefer a bunch of loveable chancers married with pure pop royalty." More...

Bloodstock 2015 Announces New Bands

The recently reformed sludgecore beasts from Raging Speedhorn will be bringing their filthy riffs to the Ronnie James Dio main stage of the upcoming Bloodstock festival. The band’s Gordon Morison comments: “We’re over the moon to be playing Bloodstock 2015. It’ll be awesome to share the stage with some of our old friends like Orange Goblin and Napalm Death. See you down the front!”

Progressive metal Brits Xerath also bring the heavy to Friday’s main stage. The band enthuses, "We are utterly stoked to announce we will be returning to Catton Hall once again to perform at this year's Bloodstock festival. We are especially proud to confirm we will be gracing the mainstage for the first time since our debut at the festival in 2009 which promises to almost certainly be a career defining moment for the band. We sincerely cannot wait to see you all there! Warm up those necks Bloodstockers!"

Five More Bands Confirmed For Bloodstock

Hot on the heels of last week’s five band announcement, the Bloodstock Festival is excited to reveal five more acts.

First up is British outfit Lawnmower Deth, confirmed for the Sophie Lancaster Stage on Sunday. The band comments: “Motorbonce famously said, ‘if we move in next door, your lawn will die.’ Quite what positioned our forefathers to even remotely claim knowledge of horticultural metal is well beyond us. Scott Ian famously said, ‘I am the law’. In fact, this simply proves that adult literacy levels within the metal genre are in line with that of the national average; quite shit, when he clearly cannot spell and meant LAWN. In a Nostradamus kind of way what these two legends of metal were pointing you to was... 'Bloodstock 2015, when we move in you will die happy, we are Lawnmower and we is well excited. Let’s party like it’s 1988.'"

Taking over the Sophie Stage on Friday are raucous Brighton noisemakers Oaf. Chief bellower Dom Lawson exclaims, "We, the mighty Oaf, are honoured and delighted to have been invited back to our favourite festival. If you saw us in 2013, please don't hold that against us. Do come along and observe our ongoing descent into senility. If you haven't seen us before, we're like a middle-aged Royal Blood for people that don't wet the bed (and with added swearing). This will be a splendid occasion and we're tumescent with joy at the very thought of it. Cheers!"

Liverpudlian black metallers Ethereal will join the fray on the Sophie Stage on Saturday. The band is currently doing a stint with Marduk and Belphegor, supporting first full-length album "Opus Aethereum," released last month by Candlelight Records.

Sunday brings symphonic black metallers Saille all the way from Belgium to the Sophie Lancaster Stage. Expect to hear some new songs from latest, third album "Eldritch." Bringing the mischief and mayhem on Friday to the Sophie Stage, are Dirty Sanchez lads Pritchard Vs Dainton.

The currently announced lineup is:

Ronnie James Dio Stage

Rob Zombie, Trivium, Within Temptation. Opeth, Sabaton, Black Label Society, Sepultura, Cannibal Corpse, Ihsahn, Orange Goblin, Death DTA, Nuclear Assault, 1349, Dark Angel, Armored Saint, Belphegor, Overkill, Ensiferum, Agalloch, Enslaved, Pro Pain, Korpiklaani, Wolf, Napalm Death

Sophie Lanaster Stage

Delain, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Godflesh, Batallion, Mordred, Destrage, Onslaught, Conan, Planet Of Zues, Bast, Lawnmower Deth, Oaf, Ethereal, Saille, Pritchard Vs Dainton More...

Lawnmower Death Crowd Funding Album Re-Issue

The British madcap thrashers in Lawnmower Deth have launched a Kickstarter campaign to re-press their 1990 debut album, "Ooh Crikey It's… Lawnmower Deth," after recently being confirmed to play at this year's Download Festival on Saturday, June 14th.

Having been unavailable for nearly twenty years, repeated demands from hardcore fans has led Lawnmower Deth and Earache to launch a campaign to get the album remastered and reissued, with a range of suitably-mad items concocted for fans to pledge for and all profits going to the Sophie Lancaster Foundation.

You can contribute to the Kickstarter campaign and see the perks available for contributing over at this location.

Frontman Pete "Qualcast Mutilator" Lee comments: "You know that giddy feeling you get. The one when you're 9 and 3/4 old, that one where it makes you kick your legs, the one that makes you run down hills going 'urgh-urgh-urgh-urgh-urgh'.

"You mean you've forgotten? Fear not. Here's how to get it back. Them lovely people at Earache, and now honorary buffoons have decided, after many years of pestering, to reissue the now legendary opus that is 'Dark Side of the Moon'. Ok, they couldn't get that, but they have got 'Ooh Crikey It's…'. Horns. Heard ya! And not only that, all profits will go to our most favourite and deserving charity, The Sophie Lancaster Foundation. We need your pledges, now! Show us the money. Show SOPHIE the money. You can always chuck the vinyl away afterwards."

If the campaign is successful, the album will be reissued on CD and vinyl in a limited print run, remastered from the original tapes in Full Dynamic Range (FDR) audio, which allows the music's nuances to shine through, giving the album a more ferocious, immersive and dynamic sound than ever before.

Lawnmower Deth Announces Hometown Show

Lawnmower Deth, self-proclaimed Godfathers of British thrash and usurpers of the buffoonery crown, has announced the band's only club show of 2013.

Since being pulled out of retirement for a one-off show at Alexandra Palace with Bullet For My Valentine, the band has refuted reports of reformation. "It's a regurgitation, get it right!" states singer Qualcast Mutilator.

Appearances have been rare but always event-based. Three Download festivals in four years, Damnation Festival, Hammerfest Festival, Bloodstock Festival, and now announced for 2013 the Hard Rock Hell Festival.

However, the draw of an even rarer club show in the band's home town was just too much. This will be the Lawnmower Deth's first home town gig in 20 years. Nottingham Rescue Rooms on December 20th, 2013 will witness Lawnmower Deth in full Christmas tilt. Supports are yet to be confirmed but rumored to be classic and old school. Tickets are available now at this location.

Qualcast Mutilator said "We can't wait...a sweaty club one....at Christmas. Plus our agent said he'd kill us if we didn't earn him some money."

Earache Releases "World's Shortest Album"

Earache Records is celebrating 25 years of bringing extreme metal to the masses and, as part of the celebrations, has released the "World's Shortest Album," striking fear into the hearts of radio DJs everywhere.

Earache is no stranger to world records, having previously claimed two official Guinness World Records, for the world's shortest single with Napalm Death's "You Suffer," as well as the world's shortest music video with Brutal Truth's "Collateral Damage."

Now, Earache is taking the idea of "shorter, faster, louder" to the extreme, with the shortest, fastest and loudest album around. "Earache: World's Shortest Album" celebrates brevity as an art form, featuring 13 extreme, straight-to-the-point tracks totalling just 87 seconds, smashing the previous 121-second record held by Canadian dance group Chromeo.

The attempt at setting the new record for the world's shortest album has been rejected by Guinness however, which no longer recognizes "world's shortest" records, explaining:

"The nature of competing to make something the 'shortest' by its very nature trivialises the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind. As such, we have been forced to cease listing records for the shortest song, shortest poem and indeed the shortest concert."

"Earache: World's Shortest Album" is still available to the public however, and is out now on iTunes at this location.

The full track listing and times for the album are as follows:

01. Napalm Death - You Suffer (00:04)
02. Napalm Death - Dead (00:05)
03. Napalm Death - Your Achievement (00:06)
04. Wormrot - False Grind Sodomy (00:04)
05. Wormrot - You Suffer But Why Is It My Problem (00:04)
06. Brutal Truth - Collateral Damage (00:04)
07. A.C. - Howard Wulkan's Bald (00:09)
08. Lawnmower Deth - Be Scene Not Heard (00:07)
09. Painkiller - Trailmarker (00:08)
10. Brutal Truth - Blockhead (00:07)
11. Morbid Angel - Bil Ur-Sag #2 Lava (00:06)
12. A.C. - Windchimes Are Gay (00:10)
13. Insect Warfare - Street Sweeper (00:13)

Total running time - 01:27

Lawnmower Deth Announces Christmas Show

Tongue in cheek thrash metal veterans Lawnmower Deth has announced a special headline show at The Garage in London, England, which will take place on December 15th. A message from the band reads as follows:

"Crikey it's been a fair old while since I've been over to this dusty corner of the Internet and apologies to all who dwell on MySpace should be given for such neglect (Join us of Facebook... hint hint… it's so much easier to post stuff over there!).

"Anyway, just to let you know that we are doing a headline slot at the Garage in London for X-mas 2012! That's loads of time for you to save your pennies and get a ticket.

"So far the mighty Beholder have been confirmed as support but there will be others added soon, we hope to make this a strong line-up as we don't get out often these days, the day pass at the clinic is a rare event so we want to make the most of it.

"Tickets are already on sale and can be obtained from the following locations: here
and here.

"Also don't forget to come over and say hello if your off to Hammerfest next month… we are on after Anthrax and we will be the band who are fast asleep onstage 'cause it will be stupid o'clock in the morning by that time!

"Cheers for now"

Lawnmower Deth To Play Bloodstock Open Air

British madcap thrashers Lawnmother Deth have been confirmed for this year's edition of Bloodstock Open Air festival in the UK. The band, which was recently covered in our Sunday Old School column, was active in the late '80s and early '90s, before reforming in 2008. The band has since played a number of shows, including performances at Download festival and Damnation Festival.

Lawnmoer Deth is due to headline the Sophie Lancaster stage at Bloodstock on Friday, 12th August and front man Pete "Qualcast Mutilator" Lee comments:

"Bloodstock 2011. Yeah, this is going to work on several levels. First and foremost, a long and overdue chance to play to the bearded masses. Never in the history of festivals has one had a reputation for spouting so much facial choppery; I can only hope that Flymo's fluff is enough to keep 'em happy. It's going to be one big facial love in. Secondly, it's free tickets for Motorbonce, so we're chuffed. And thirdly, the opportunity to headline the Sophie stage was just too good. Her abhorrent murder in 2007 is even more pertinent for me, it was only 10 miles from where I live. If the memory of Sophie on this stage can breed just a little open-mindedness and tolerance then the world is a better place. See you in the pit, beardy weirdies."

For more Bloodstock information, head over to this location. Lawnmower Dethis also due to perform this Saturday, 28th May at Redemption in Derby. Joining them will be Evil Scarecrow, Virus, and more.

U.K. Thrash Documentary Posts Trailer Online

A new trailer has been posted online for the forthcoming documenary film, "A History Of A Time To Come," which looks at the thrash metal scene and history in the United Kingdom. You can check it out below. The film makers have also announced that a book tie-in will be released, written by journalist Greg Mofitt, who has written for Metal Hammer and Terrorizer amongst other publications.

"In 2003 I had the idea to set out the story of U.K. thrash," Greg explains. "I lived through the scene as a teenager and felt that although the U.K. was the underdog compared to, say, the US and Germany, there was still a great tale to tell. It’s a story of the British bulldog spirit facing down adversity and in that sense U.K. thrash was typical of the nation. With few exceptions, British thrash bands received very little global coverage back in the day, so this is also a largely untold story. When I originally devised the book concept, U.K. thrash was nothing but a dusty chapter in history. Today, things are quite different. The scene has sparked into life once again and veteran outfits continue to reform, some sounding better than ever. When I heard about the 'A History of a Time to Come' documentary and met the guys behind it, all the pieces finally fell into place and the timing was perfect."

Speaking on the book, the film makers stated: "We’re delighted to be working in tandem with Greg on the project, and especially excited to see how the two projects will compliment each other. One of our concerns from the outset was that perhaps the film format would limit our ability to convey the story of the scene in enough depth to satisfy the fans, but with the introduction of the written story we feel confident that everyone, from hardcore fan to the casual cinema- goer will find their level of interest covered."

Both the film and the book are still in the production stages and anyone who feels they might be able to contribute in some way, be it with first hand stories, video/audio materials or pictures etc. is encouraged to get in touch. More...

Sunday Old School: Lawnmower Deth

Self-parody has been something of a tradition in heavy metal since the early 1980s when such television shows as "The Comic Strip Presents… Bad News" and films like, "This Is Spinal Tap" made fun of the lyrical content and fashion in heavy metal. Subsequently, some bands were formed to solely mock the genre, even if they were metal fans themselves. One of the best examples of such a group is Lawnmower Deth, a thrash metal outfit from Ravenshead in Nottinghamshire, England. The band was formed in 1987 by Chris Flint and Joseph Whitaker along with School mates Pete Lee, Steve Nesfield and Chris Parkes, who all took up bizarre and comedic stage names such as Concorde Faceripper (Nesfield,) Qualcast "Koffee Perkulator" Mutilator (Lee) and Explodin' Dr Jaggers Flymo (Flint,) amongst others. They made their debut recording as part of a split album with Metal Duck and named their side of the record, "Mower Liberation Front."

The band’s side of the album was surprisingly well received and the positive responses allowed them to record a full length studio album, which came in the form of 1990’s. "Ooh Crikey It’s… Lawnmower Deth." As well as their own songs, the band became known for their satirical take on other artist’s hits such as "Crazy Horses" by The Osmonds and perhaps most famously, the Kim Wylde smash, "Kids In America," which Wylde later claimed to enjoy. The album was well received by fans with a sense of humour and a second album, "Return Of The Fabulous Metal Bozo Clowns" followed in 1992. It was around this time that they began to produce music videos, which like the music, were tongue in cheek in nature and humourous. More...
