Anubis Gate Recruits New Drummer With Same Name

Morten Gade Sørensen (of Pyramaze and Wuthering Heights) has replaced Morten Sørensen in Anubis Gate. The band comments:

"After careful consideration and 5 albums behind the drums, Morten Sørensen felt it was time to get off the bandwagon to pursue other musical interests. We would like to say that this is a peaceful parting of the ways and that we are still good friends. We are of course sad to see Morten Sørensen go but also excited to have another one of Denmark's very finest drummers to join the band. It is with great pleasure that we can announce his replacement Morten Gade Sørensen, known for his excellent drumming in bands such as Pyramaze, Wuthering Heights and Lance King."

Morten Gade Sørensen comments on joining Anubis Gate: "I've been following Anubis Gate since they started and being a big fan of their universe it's an honor for me to be asked to join. I'm looking forward to working on the bands new material."

Anubis Gate is currently working on an upcoming sixth album, which will be out on Nightmare Records late 2013 and follows the band's 2011 self-titled release (reviewed here).

Anubis Gate Recruits New Guitarist

Anubis Gate has issued the following statement about guitarist Jesper parting ways with the band:

"Jesper's decision to leave the band to pursue other musical interests has been some time in the making, actually Jesper announced his leaving to the band 3 months ago, leaving us with good time to the difficult task of finding the right replacement.

"We feel it's important for everybody to know that Jesper's exit has nothing to do with personal differences, in fact we are still the best of friends. Jesper simply found that now was the right time to try something new. We are of course sad that he is leaving but respect his decision and wish him nothing but the best.

"We are happy to announce Michael Bodin as Jesper's replacement. We know Michael from his works with Third Eye and nineties progmetal band Northern Empire. He is a fantastic player who can contribute with very interesting material, in fact he is already writing great new stuff for the new album which we expect out late 2013. We are looking very much forward to presenting the new lineup for you both on stage and on record."

Anubis Gate released a self-titled full-length album (reviewed here) last year, and the band's lineup now is:

Henrik Fevre - vocals, bass
Kim Olesen - guitars, keyboards
Michael Bodin - guitars
Morten Srensen - drums

Pit Stories: Technological Let Down

We've been catching up with fans and band members everywhere to get their mosh pit stories and tales of on-stage mishaps. This week guitarist Kim Olesen of Anubis Gate shares the following story of a technological malfunction.

I'll share a little tale of how tech stuff can let you down. The first concert we did in support of our previous album "The Detached," I had my in-ear monitor system attached to the strap (as I always have). Everything's going fine. We start the track “Dodecahedron.” I'm playing rockstar, standing on the drum podium. So far so good....until I jump down and my in-ear beltpack receiver empties itself of all the batteries. That's critical because that was almost all the sound I had on stage. Luckily this song has some passages that would sound OK if I didn't play so in-between playing without hearing what I play (looking at my fingers and hoping routine will do it). I'm searching the stage floor for the batteries, which must have looked very strange. Four guys playing away and the fifth guy crawling on stage to find his batteries. That day I learned to put gaffa tape around the receiver. Maybe not a big lesson for mankind, but a big lesson for this guitarist.

Anubis Gate is set to release the band's new, self-titled album (reviewed here) this coming September 13th, 2011. To see what bassist Henrik Fevre had to say about the album, head over to this location and check out Metalunderground.com's recent interview with the band.

Check back again next Tuesday for more pit stories sent in from bands and show-goers.

Anubis Gate Announces New Singer

Danish metal outfit Anubis Gate has announced that the band has found itself a new lead vocalist in the form of Henrik Fevre. Speaking about the change in singers, the band stated:

"With Jacob's ever more demanding schedule as a first class producer Jacob found it hard to have the time and keep his heart in the band. We fully respect his decision and reasons to leave and want to thank Jacob for being with us for an amazing couple of albums. We are still very good friends and Jacob is still involved in shaping the new album in his capacity as the best producer in metal. We wish Jacob nothing but the best in his future career.

"Anubis Gate has always been blessed with great singers. The decision to have Henrik take over vocal duties is a natural one for us. Henrik is the one that for a big part shaped the vocal melodies and lyrics of Anubis Gate and when Torben had to bow out of the gigs we did in support of A Perfect Forever it was Henrik who sang those gigs. Henrik has also had several songs on our albums where he performed lead vocals. Most notably 'Take Me Home' on the Andromeda Unchained album. So we knew beforehand it would work out great, which it certainly has." More...

Anubis Gate Issues Studio Update

Denmark's Anubis Gate has issued the following studio update:

"Morten (drums), Kim (guitars/keys) and I (Jacob - vocals) went into the studio this Friday to track drums for our new album."

"Morten started off by laying down some of the heaviest and best drums I have ever heard him do, so I'm confident that the new album will have a pretty strong rhythm section!"

"Furthermore, it was great to hear the new songs slowly come to life, which they always do when we track drums to the demo vocals, guitars and keys. It suddenly starts to make sense."

"The songs seem a bit darker to me, and I like that..."

"For the gear freaks out there, we tracked drums on a Yamaha Maple Custom Definitive kit with 10, 12, 14 and 16" toms, 20" kick and Mapex Black Panther Maple snare. It sounded fantastic!"

ProgPower Scandinavia Festival Canceled

The ProgPower Scandinavia Festival website has been updated with the following information about the event being canceled:

"Dear ticket-holder, booking agent, journalist, sponsor contact, music-fan and others associated with the festival,

"We regretfully announce that ProgPower Scandinavia 2009 has been cancelled! For almost a year we have been working hard on making this festival a reality and we believe that our labour has been fruitful in meeting all aspects required of a successful festival.

"We have booked a more than solid roster with Pretty Maids and Candlemass as headliners; along with names such as Mercenary, Freak Kitchen, Manticora and Textures on the bill. All of these bands have established popularity in Denmark and should easily attract the Danish metal audience to our festival.

"We have confirmed sponsorship/endorsement deals with a.o. Marshall, Musikpartner, Jack Daniels, Jaegermeister, Cult Energy Drinks, Carlsberg and Coca Cola. We've have media support in the form of Metalized Magazine and Denmark's largest newspaper BT. We have had the collected Danish internet based metal media supporting us with banner advertisement, etc. And we’ve also had a lot of international promotion on metal sites in France, Romania, Bulgaria, Russia, USA, Germany and Sweden. Anubis Gate Recording New Album

Progressive metal band Anbuis Gate are set to start recording a new album next month which will be released through Locomotive in February 2009. The band issued the following statement on their MySpace:

"This summer will indeed be far from inactive in the Anubis Gate camp! We will start recording the drums at Hansen Studios early July, and after the drums have been tracked, guitars, keyboards and bass will be recorded at Kim Olesen's studio. Jacob Hansen's vocals will be done at Hansen Studios, and Henrik Fevre's vocals + backing will be done at his own studio. The mix will be done mid August at Hansen Studios..

All the songs have been written and lyrics are being completed as we write this. We feel very strong about the new songs, that very much are following the lines of Andromeda Unchained, although with a twist. There's a feeling that some of the newer songs will be heavier, leaning a bit towards the hard riffage from "A Perfect Forever", as well as there are some new elements and surpising twists to "the Anubis Gate sound". Every one of us is anxious to get started!"
