Triptykon Reveals New Album Release Date
Triptykon, the new band formed by former Celtic Frost/Hellhammer mainman Tom G. Fischer, has announced that their own record label, Prowling Death Records has entered into a distribution deal with Century Media Records. As a result of the partnership, the bands debut album, "Eparistera Daimones" will be released on March 22nd in Europe and North America.
Fischer comments: "I am very pleased about continuing my long-standing and very constructive affiliation with Century Media Records. After the demise of Celtic Frost, I was looking for continuity in every other aspect of my life, and the cooperation between Prowling Death Records Ltd. and Century Media Records has in the past already provided an outstanding platform for releases by Hellhammer (the Demon Entrails demo reissue album, 2008) and Celtic Frost (Monotheist, 2006)."
The tracklisting for the album is as follows:
"Goetia"
"Abyss Within My Soul"
"In Shrouds Decayed"
"Shrine"
"A Thousand Lies"
"Descendant"
"Myopic Empire"
"My Pain"
"The Prolonging"
Triptykon Streaming New Songs Online
Triptykon, the new band formed by former Celtic Frost and Hellhammer mastermind Thomas G. Fischer, is currently streaming two new songs online. The tracks "Abyss Within My Soul" and "A Thousand Lies" can be heard at Triptykon's official MySpace page. Triptykon are expected to release their debut album "Eparistera Daimones" in 2010.
Triptykon Finishes Mixing New Album
In a recent message from Triptykon frontman Thomas Fischer, the man behind such bands as Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, he revealed that the band has completed mixing their debut album, "Eparistera Daimones." The message reads as follows:
"We finished mixing Triptykon's first album at Woodshed Studio in Germany late last week. I have now returned to Switzerland, where we will have it mastered by Walter Schmid at his Oakland Recording studio in Winterthur, Switzerland, on Monday. Walter already mastered Celtic Frost's Monotheist in 2006 and thus bestowed upon it its exceptionally loud and powerful sound. He managed to do this without cranking the album into unwanted distortion or clipping, i.e., without falling prone to the pitfalls of the loudness wars of recent years. The test master he did of one of the songs from Eparistera Daimones promises the same approach.
"This will mark the musical culmination of some two years of work on this project. Regardless of whether one will hate or love the music we have created with Triptykon, Eparistera Daimones is an album with a very unique background and a truly unique history. Neither of which have been contrived. Come what may, nothing will ever be able to diminish that."
Triptykon Begins Mixing Debut Album
Triptykon, the new band formed by former Celtic Frost and Hellhammer mastermind Thomas G. Fischer, has begun the mixing stage of their debut album "Eparistera Daimones," which is expected to be released next Spring through the bands own Prowling Death Records. A message from Fischer reads as follows:
"This past Tuesday, I returned to Woodshed Studio in Bavaria, Germany, for the third time since we began studio work on Triptykon’s debut album, Eparistera Daimones, in summer. While briefly back in Zurich, I finalized the album’s artwork, and we recorded the piano, violin, and female vocals that will be featured in some of the songs. As Nadine Rimlinger played the violin on Saturday, it was impossible not to feel transferred back to 1987, when we recorded the classical musicians for "Into The Pandemonium". Even though we are producing a much darker and heavier album this time around, some of the sounds created by Nadine were at times eerily reminiscent of such era past.
"The week in Zurich ended appropriately. Our friends in the incomparable PANTHEON I played in Zurich, and that same night, we made new friends in fellow touring act Zoroaster, who sound much like a staggering, modern incarnation of HELLHAMMER.
"Now, back in Germany, we have commenced mixing the songs we recorded during prior sessions. It is a challenging and complex album to mix, not just because of its musical content. But this mixing session is at the same time also one of the most intriguing I have ever been a part of. This is an unusual album, for better or for worse, in a very distinctive context. It is winter here, cold, dark, and wet. An utterly perfect setting, then, for tomorrow’s mixing session of 'The Prolonging', all 19 morbid, lumbering minutes of it."
Tom Fischer In "Secret History Of Black Metal"
England's Terrorizer magazine has launched what is likely to become a separate quarterly specialist publication to complement the main magazine. The first issue, published in September 2009, is dedicated to "The Secret History Of... Black Metal." The 96-page magazine features various references to Hellhammer and Celtic Frost as well as a dedicated interview with Hellhammer/Celtic Frost/Triptykon guitarist/singer Tom Gabriel Fischer. A sidebar in the feature assesses the most significant Hellhammer and Celtic Frost releases, rating Celtic Frost's "Monotheist" album of 2006 as "Arguably, the metal album of the decade... This is darkness."

Triptykon To Begin Recording Debut Album
Triptykon, the group formed by Tom Gabriel Warrior after his departure from Celtic Frost in April of 2008, is scheduled to commence studio recording sessions for a first album in mid-August 2009. The album, tentatively titled Eparistera Daimones, will mainly be recorded in southern Germany, with additional recording sessions to take place in Switzerland. Produced by Warrior and Triptykon guitarist V. Santura, the recording and mixing sessions are expected to continue until November 2009. The album is currently scheduled for release in spring of 2010, through the group’s own label, Prowling Death Records (home of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost).
Songs currently under consideration for inclusion on Triptykon's debut album are, among others, "Myopic Empire", "Among Veiled Spirits", "Sepultus", "Abyss Within My Soul", "Goetia", "A Thousand Lies", and the 17-minute "The Prolonging."
Triptykon will follow the release of Eparistera Daimones with a number of festival appearances and a full tour. The group’s onstage debut is scheduled to take place as part of the renowned Roadburn Festival, in April 2010.
Tom Gabriel Warrior Named Curator For Roadburn '10
Holland's Roadburn festival has announced that Tom Gabriel Warrior, founder of Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, and Triptykon has agreed to act as the curator for the Roadburn festival on Friday, April 16, 2010, and host a special event at Roadburn, called Only Death Is Real.
Tom's duties as curator include personally selecting the bands that will play on Only Death Is Real, as well as to perform the first major headlining set with his latest incarnation, Triptykon. Tom will be Roadburn’s third curator, following up on David Tibet in 2008 and Neurosis earlier this year.
The Roadburn Festival organizers further comment:
"We are overjoyed to have secured Tom's involvement in Roadburn this year, as he stands as a truly groundbreaking artist, with his previous bands having been extremely divisive, as is often the case with truly unique and original works of art. Ultimately his canon of work would prove not only legendary but hugely inspirational for an entire generation of musicians in the metal, doom and dark psychedelic scenes.
"Tom has always enjoyed pushing the envelope musically and challenging boundaries, and it was entirely that mindset that made him a perfect fit to act as our curator. It has been a constant goal of ours to keep Roadburn a festival that not only celebrates the established but charts new territory, and we could think of no better spirit guide than Tom Gabriel Warrior. We are looking forward to the new ideas that he will bring to our festival, as we feel that we are truly kindred spirits."
Tom Gabriel Warrior commented: "It is a surprise and an honor to be asked by Roadburn to act as a curator, and I am accepting this extraordinary opportunity with much gratitude and due humility. In my eyes, Roadburn is one of the most courageous and artistic festivals in existence, and its history is, in essence, a list of concerts by groups I deeply admire. It is quite a challenge to follow such footsteps, both as a curator and as a musician. I will try my very best to ensure that the groups I intend to propose to the organizers of Roadburn will be as ravishingly dark, unique, and exciting to the festival's visitors as they are to me."
Roadburn 2010, including Tom Gabriel Warrior's Only Death Is Real, will run for three days from Thursday, April 15 to Saturday, April 17 at the 013 venue and Midi Theatre in Tilburg, Holland. There will be an additional afterburner event on Sunday, April 18, 2010.
Sarke, Tom Gabriel Warrior Join Forces At Wacken
Norway's Sarke, featuring Nocturno Culto (Darkthrone) and Sarke (Tulus, Khold), will be joined by legendary Tom Gabriel Warrior (Triptykon, ex-Celtic Frost and Hellhammer) for their performance on this year's Wacken Open Air. Together, they will perform the Celtic Frost classic "Dethroned Emperor."
The Sarke band comments: "We are all massive fans of Tom and his music, and we are honored to share the stage with him at Wacken!"
Tom Gabriel Warrior adds: "It's an honor and a privilege to be invited to appear onstage with Sarke, a group whose line-up doesn't only contain personal friends but also musicians I respect deeply. We shall make our appearance at Wacken a truly special event!"
Since the recording of their debut album, "Vorunah," Sarke has grown to become a real band, and the live line-up is now officially part of the band. Sarke's line-up is completed with Asgeir Mickelson (Spiral Architect, Thornbound, ex-Borknagar), Cyrus (Susperia) and Anders Hunstad (El Caco, Autopulver, Morten Abel). The band is already working on new material, and a new album is expected in 2010.
Ex-Celtic Frost Mainman Faces Name Disupute
Legendary metal frontman Tom Fischer (aka Tom G. Warrior), who founded the bands Hellhammer, Celtic Frost, Apollyn Sun and most recently, Triptykon, has been sent an email requesting he cease using his long time alias "Tom Warrior." A message from Fischer reads as follows:
"Late one night in May of 1982, bassist/singer Urs Sprenger and I founded HELLHAMMER and adopted the stage names Steve Warrior and Tom Gabriel Warrior. I still use that name - in parallel with my actual surname - as I have done on and off for 27 years. In many ways, it has become synonymous with significant parts of my life and work, and it is the name our audiences invariably call me.
"This week, I received the following e-mail to my personal MySpace account:

Triptykon/Ex-Celtic Frost Mainman Checks In
Tom Fischer, founder of the legendary metal bands Celtic Frost and Hellhammer, has checked in with an update on his forthcoming new band, Triptykon. His message reads as follows:
"Of course my own opinion is biased, and of course I am not really entitled to rate the results of our own work. But it is difficult not to emerge from our sessions at Triptykon's rehearsal bunker deeply intoxicated by the heaviness of the dark, overwhelming, and morbid miasma that is the riffs of 'The Prolonging'. Although the path towards completion is still significant, be it for this new song, its title and lyrics, or the album proper it will appear on, it all transpires as it should. It is as it has to be."
Tom Fischer Posts Another Triptykon Update
Former Celtic Frost mainman and current Triptykon leader, Tom Fischer has checked in with the following report:
"We played CELTIC FROST's 'Babylon Fell' for the first time with Triptykon yesterday evening. I last performed this song with Celtic Frost on the tour to support the Into The Pandemonium album, an eternity ago. Many years later, I attempted to add 'Babylon Fell' to the resurrected Celtic Frost's live repertoire for the concerts and festival appearances that were planned to complement the Monotheist tour in 2008. I had relearned the song in late 2007 and transcribed arrangement and tabs for Martin. Alas, it was never to happen. By that time, Celtic Frost was no longer a band that played music but rather a congregation of enemies, and I ended up practicing 'Babylon Fell' on my own at our rehearsal room.
"It was to take another year until I was finally able to play 'Babylon Fell' with a band. After a couple of trial run-throughs, Triptykon made the song come truly alive. It served to make an already very strong rehearsal session even more exceptional. Triptykon's growing repertoire of original material had never sounded so heavy and organic before, and playing 'Dethroned Emperor' and 'Babylon Fell' alongside made the experience almost intoxicating. After the months spent assembling this group and the framework around it in the face of a variety of significant obstacles, a session like last night's reinforces commitment and confidence infinitely.
"Triptykon's debut album will be dark, heavy, and fiercely unique."
Tom Fischer Posts Triptykon Update
Tom Fischer, most famous as the former frontman of metal legends Celtic Frost, has issued the following statement regarding his new band, Triptykon:
"Just returned home from an initially somewhat hampered but ultimately very successful rehearsal session with Triptykon. It was the first session in a while, not least due to a hand injury that had forced me to pause temporarily. And in a few hours, I will travel back to Norway for a few days yet again, to attend some of the mixing sessions for 1349's new album. Although, admittedly, my mind is very much with Triptykon, and I am eager to return to Switzerland to continue work on songs, demos, and our first album."
Tom Fischer Posts Another Triptykon Update
Former Celtic Frost/current Triptykon mainman Tom Fischer has posted the following message online:
"I am not exaggerating when stating that words are simply inadequate to express sufficient gratitude for the warm and very thoughtful treatment extended to Triptykon bassist Vanja Slajh and I by Bohren und der Club of Gore last Saturday. Bohren added their show in Lucerne, Switzerland, relatively late to their tour to promote their new Dolores album. But it was a perfect and long-awaited chance for me to meet once again with Christoph, Thorsten, Robin, and, of course, Morten, with whom I have been friends for years. It has been a while, and we all were looking forward very much to seeing each other again.
"In spite of having to take care of the usual countless affairs associated with playing a concert abroad, Bohren and their amazing agent Susanne Herrndorf went out of their way to make us feel welcome and comfortable. It was a truly memorable evening of reflective conversations and black humor among kindred spirits. Needless to say, the concert was exceptional. More...
Tom Fischer Posts Update On Triptykon
Former Celtic Frost mainman Tom Fischer has posted the following brief update on his new band, Triptykon:
"Although the path towards completion is still substantial at this time, it emerges that Triptykon is developing into a darker, heavier, and more experimental version of Celtic Frost. It is as it should be."
Triptykon's lineup also includes Reed St. Mark (ex-CELTIC FROST), V. Santura (DARK FORTRESS ) and Vanja Slay.
