Latest Austrian Death Machine News
Below is our complete Austrian Death Machine news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Austrian Death Machine (Tim Lambesis) has revealed that comedian and voice actor Josh Robert Thompson did the "Ahhnold" voices on their new album, "Double Brutal." Chad Ackerman of Destroy the Runner did Ahhnold's parts on the band's first album, "Total Brutal." Lambesis commented:
"It's time to face it guys, Arnold is 62 years old and really angry so his voice has gotten a bit grainier and lower. haha... and pitch shift or studio effects were not used this time since that's what he really sounds like!"
Here's a video of Josh Robert Thompson doing some voice impressions, including Arnold Schwarzenegger:
Austrian Death Machine has posted a cover of Motorhead's “Iron Fist” on their MySpace player. The song is off disc 2 of "Double Brutal," which came out on Tuesday, September 29th.
Tim Lambesis adds: “Ahhnold and I were able to put together an entire CD full of great cover songs related to his movies. Since we released one song from the originals disc already, we figured it was time for everyone to hear a cover as well. Even now you've only heard less than 1/10 of the album, so make sure to pick up the whole thing on Tuesday!”
Ahhnold enthusiasts and metalheads will have a chance to catch Austrian Death Machine live soon on the west coast. The latest Austrian Death Machine tour dates are as follows:
10/07 Yuma, AZ The Mandarin Theatre
10/08 San Diego, CA Soma Sidestage
Tour w/ Children Of Bodom, Skeletonwitch
10/09 San Francisco, CA Regency Center w/ The Black Dahlia Murder
10/10 Victorville, CA Karma not part of tour
10/11 Pomona, CA Glasshouse w/ Holy Grail (no Skeletonwitch)
10/12 Phoenix, AZ Marquee Theatre w/ The Black Dahlia Murder
Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying has issued the following update about recording a new album:
"Songwriting has been going well with about 6-7 songs done. We decided to officially start recording the new AILD album on Oct 17. At that point we'll record as many songs as we can and then finish the album around the new year. I think this will be a good way to spread out our songwriting since most of our previous records have always been written within a few months.
"In the mean time, I had some free time to record a new Austrian Death Machine album which comes out TODAY! If you can't play metal and also have fun, then what's the point, right? Hopefully some of you AILD fans will pick it up, and thanks so much to everyone who already got their copy from the pre-order."
Austrian Death Machine is streaming the new song "I Need Your Clothes, Your Boots, and Your Motorcycle" off the upcoming album "Double Brutal" online at their official MySpace page.
Austrian Death Machine creator Tim Lambesis comments on the new song: "My goal with this song is to get people to sing along to this classic line while filling in the gaps with brutal metal elements I believe are tried and true. Some bands try to write to songs that are outside the box, and some bands just want to box so we can punch other people in the face and call it a sport. Regardless of whether or not you want to be in or outside of the box, I hope everyone enjoys this song from Double Brutal."
"Double Brutal" is set for a North American release on September 29th.
As I Lay Dying frontman Tim Lambesis and California frontman Ahhnold are back for round two with the release of AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE’s "Double Brutal," the follow up to 2008’s highly successful release, "Total Brutal." This two-disc set features one disc of all new heavy tracks in the tradition of all of Ahhnold’s greatest cinematic moments and a second disc of cover songs including songs originally performed by METALLICA, MEGADETH, MISFITS, JUDAS PRIEST and more, with cover art once again being tackled by Ed Repka (MEGADETH, DEATH, NOFX, NUCLEAR ASSAULT, etc), and is set for a North American release on September 29, 2009. The album also features guest performances by BUZ MCGRATH (UNEARTH), ANDREW TAPLEY (THE HUMAN ABSTRACT), JAMES GERICKE (DEATH BY STEREO), MARK MACDONAL (MERCURY SWITCH), ROCKY GRAY (LIVING SACRIFICE), RUSTY COOLEY and more.
A new audio clip featuring sneak peeks at tracks taken from Double Brutal is currently available on Austrian Death Machine's MySpace page.
“Sometimes being stereotypically metal is fitting. I'm not trying to break new ground; I just want to break people's necks... and have fun doing it,” comments AUSTRIAN DEATH MACHINE creator Tim Lambesis.

Metal Blade Records Release:
"The heaviest metal band in the world (by sheer mass) has finished their follow up to Total Brutal - get ready for Double Brutal! Not satisfied with the limitations offered by putting out a single disc album, Ahhnold demanded two full cds full of muscle pumping metal! When asked why they needed two discs and why he thought that was best, he quickly replied, “Two discs made it heavy and brutal enough to crush our enemies, see them driven before us, and to hear the lamentations of their women!!!”
"Double Brutal is packed with more “juice” than a professional athlete. Disc one features soon to be classics See You At The Party Richter, and Let Off Some Steam Bennett. Disc two is crammed full of metal covers, complete with Ahhnold’s take on them, including Metallica’s Trapped Under Ice and Killing Is My Business…and Business Is Good by none other than Megadeth."

Austrian Death machine mainman Tim Lambesis has issued an update on their upcoming album that they are working on, entitled "Double Brutal." Here it is:
"I can't believe how fantastic things are going with the recording of 'Double Brutal.' For starters, I thought I would note that Rusty Cooley just finished a guitar solo on the album. If you're not familiar with his shredding guitar work, then you can listen to songs on his site.
"Now regarding Ahhnold himself!... I've been visited in the studio by my friend Fake Arnold who you can visit at http://www.myspace.com/fakearnold. This album will be a good test of true Ahhnold fans to see if they can tell the difference between the lines done by Ahhnold himself, Fake Arnold, and our contest winner Timothy Benham."
Timothy Benham, who is from Oklahoma, won the contest set forth by the band for best Arnold impersonation. You can check out a video of his contest entry below. More...

The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Austrian Death Machine has issued the following request for fan input on their MySpace blog:
"I'll tell you what I'm thinking and then you can let me know what you are thinking below...
"I'm thinking about the next Austrian Death Machine release being called "Double Brutal" since it will be double disc. A few blogs back we discussed a lot of potential cover songs which will be on the second disc, but what are we thinking of ideas for the disc full of originals?
"I definitely want to have one song with a killer line from Commando. Another obvious classic that got left out on the last album was "Hasta La Vista... Baby." Besides brutal one liners, I was thinking stylistically of keeping some thrash classic sounds, but also doing a song or two that are just ridiculously technical. Maybe I'll even do one song where I drop the tuning down four steps or so to be "heavy" like all the crazy kids do these a days."
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will enter its second decade this April with an eclectic mixture of bands from the metal and hardcore genres. Returning to the Palladium in Worcester, Mass., the event will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with a an extra special pre-party on Thursday, April 16.
Headlining Friday will be All That Remains, one of the many bands that got its start at the New England Metal and Hardcore Festival. Saturday will be headlined by metal giants Lamb of God as part of their No Fear Energy Music Tour along with As I Lay Dying, Children Of Bodom, God Forbid and Municipal Waste. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage.
Other bands schedule to perform on Friday are: August Burns Red, Suffocation, The Acacia Strain, The Haunted, Napalm Death, WhiteChapel, Kataklysm, Cattle Decapitation, Veil of Maya, Abigail Williams, Decrepit Birth, Psycroptic, Intronaut, Withered, Left to Vanish, Lazarus A.D., Kylesa, XAFBX, Trap Them, Aggressive Dogs, Toxic Holocaust, XWarX, Psyopus, Woe of Tyrants, Rose Funeral and more to be announced. Doors open at 12 noon. More...

Austrian Death Machine has posted a teaser of their rendition of "Jingle Bells" on MySpace one day before the band's release of "A Very Brutal Chritsmas."
The band comments:
"Everyone needs a thrashed out version of Jingle Bells to mix up this years boring holiday music. Plus, no one brings the holiday cheer quite like Ahhnold."
"A Very Brutal Chritsmas" is a 3-song CD single due out tomorrow, November 25, containing the following tracks:
1. Jingle Bells
2. Get To The Choppa
3. Hell Bent For Leather (Judas Priest cover)
Austrian Death Machine has posted the following message online:
"This year, the holidays will be brutalized by Ahhnold and the Austrian Death Machine crew. In our efforts to make Christmas "metal," "brutal," and other choice adjectives, I will be releasing the rendition of the holiday classic 'Jingle Bells'. Also on the single is the soon-to-be classic, 'Get To The Choppa', and Austrian Death Machine's cover of JUDAS PRIEST's 'Hell Bent For Leather.'
"Ahhnold was quoted as saying: 'Why write a new song, when I can take whatever one I want? Give me that guitar you girly man!'
"Look out for the Austrian Death Machine Xmas EP to be available on November 25th!"
Austrian Death Machine is starting to plan ahead for the next album and is taking guitar solo suggestions from fans. Here is the update from the band (i.e. Tim Lambesis):
"Since my self imposed rules state there must be 'a guitar solo in every song,' then I better start planning ahead for the next album. Hopefully everyone enjoyed the guitar solos on every song of the Total Brutal album. Now it's time to hear your suggestions for the next one...
"PLEASE POST YOUR SUGGESTIONS AS A COMMENT TO THIS BLOG!"
Apparently Austrian Death Machine's first show was shut down prematurely due to a crowd member's actions. Here is a blog post from the band about it:
"So, this news is about a week old for some of you Californians, but I know that not everyone lives in this great state, so I will tell the story to the masses.
"Last week was the first ever Austrian Death Machine show. Everyone but Ahhnold was nervous because we didn't want to let down the great Governator and we only had two days to practice together. Well, four songs into our set we were just starting to get comfortable when T-1000 walked into the venue.
"I couldn't believe it! T-1000 (who kept trying to tell me he was a real California police officer) shut the show down because some idiot in the crowd decided to get too violent. Even though we had nothing to do with this craziness, I still feel there are some people I need to apologize to. Here is the list...
- everyone who paid to see the show and only got to see 4 songs
- our friends that got jumped by some stupid "crew" at the show (sorry to EJ in particular)
- Antagonist who was supposed to play after us
- the rest of the guys in the band who helped me pull of this project live... Mark MacDonald flew in from New Hampshire and Jon "Charn" Rice flew in from Phoenix"
