Boston metal act Mongrel has posted the following update online, in which it announces that it is seeking a new permanent bassist to replace 'Rev' who is leaving the band after five years.
"Rev has been a valued member of this band and good friend for five years now and while we're certainly disappointed he's not able to continue with the band, we certainly respect his decision, are on excellent terms with him, and wish him nothing but the best," stated band founder Adam Savage. "Being the class act that he's been throughout his five years in the band, Rev let us know his intent to leave a couple months ago and still was more than willing to record his parts for our new full length album."
Mongrel has released their new EP "The New Breed of Old School" featuring 6 songs from their debut full length album "Fear, Lies, & Propaganda" (Screaming Ferret Wreckords / Locomotive Records), re-recorded with the band's new line-up consisting of Jessica Sierra (vocals), Adam Savage (guitar), Rev (bass), and Dave Kazukiewicz (drums).
Band founder Savage stated, "After 6 years of male singers, it was quickly decided that with the addition of our new (female) singer Jessica, it was going to be important to re-introduce the band and the songs to the fans in order to let them hear for themselves what made her the clear choice to take singer job for Mongrel. By picking songs that have essentially been fan favorites from the old album, it really allows both the long term fans as well as new people to appreciate just what Jessica and our new drummer Dave bring to the table and why we feel this is the strongest line-up the band has had to date."
"The New Breed of Old School" EP was recorded at White Sight & Sound and engineered and mixed by Jim Foster (Nullset, Graveyard BBQ, Damone, POD) September 6-7th, 2010 and was released under the band's Immolation Records banner as the band has chosen to remain independent thus far since their mutually agreed upon split with former label Screaming Ferret Wreckords last Fall with the release of the "Revenge" EP which garnered airplay on Sirius/XM, Music Choice, as well as multiple radio and online outlets both in the US and overseas.
Mongrel will be re-entering the studio with Jim Foster in October to begin recording their next full length album, slated for an early Spring 2011 release.
Physical copies of the EP will also be available at the band's upcoming shows:

Boston's Mongrel has recently released their new single, entitled "Bored to Death," on their myspace profile. The song comes off their upcoming album "This Means War." The band has also issued the following update regarding their current lineup:
"CHANGES IN THE BAND: as you might have seen on the myspace/facebook, or various music news sites online - over the past couple of weeks we had a couple of line-up changes as Mongrel parted ways with our drummer Ed, and Drew announced his departure from the band. Mongrel is alive and well however and we will continue on with a new singer and drummer. while there are no announcements to be made at this point as to new members of the band, we will let you know as soon as there is an update on the matter. for the upcoming shows we will be joined by various friends sitting in on drums, and our friend J'sin Lynch (ex-48 Rooms/The Falted) on vocals." Massachusetts based punk-rock-metal band MONGREL has recently parted ways with their label, Screaming Ferret Wreckords. The split from the label was amicable after it was decided that band and the label were looking to go in different directions. Mongrel is now a free agent and is currently exploring options for the release of their upcoming full length cd "This Means War", still slated for release in the spring of 2010. Mongrel guitarist Adam Savage had this to say about the split, "We have nothing bad to say about our relationship with the label and it was out of mutual respect for what each of us wanted to do that we decided to go our separate ways. We are very excited about the new possibilities this brings up and look forward to getting the next album out in the spring."
Mongrel's latest release is the 5 song "Revenge" EP which was released on Halloween 2009 on Screaming Ferret Wreckords / Immolation Records. Reviews of the new EP have been overwhelmingly positive and the EP itself is available on i-tunes, amazon, shockhound, and at bandcamp.com where it is available for "name your own price" downloads. Mongrel's first full length album "Fear, Lies, & Propaganda" was re-released in April 2008 by Screaming Ferret Wreckords / Locomotive Records.
Mongrel had a busy 2009, including a northeast US tour with punk legends FEAR, playing with KORN, and spending a good portion of the year in the studio working on the "Revenge" EP and upcoming album "This Means War." The band will wrap up the year with a couple of home area shows, December 9th at the Middle East (Downstairs) in Cambridge MA supporting Psychostick, and December 12th for an all ages matinee at Tammany Hall in Worcester, MA.
The aggressive punk/rock/metal band MONGREL is set to release their new five-song EP, "REVENGE," (on Screaming Ferret Wreckords) this Halloween at Memorial Hall in Plymouth MA at the 7th annual "Hilloween" concert. Recorded by Tim Koukos (Nuclear Assault, Meliah Rage) at SFW Studios, and mixed by Jeff Wallace (Biohazard, Pro-Pain, End of an Era) at Entrolab Studios, while the EP does not come out in CD form until Halloween, it is already available on itunes and amazon.com for only $4.95.
"REVENGE" is the follow up to Mongrel's Screaming Ferret Wreckords full length debut "Fear, Lies, & Propaganda," which was released in April 2008. Mongrel guitarist Adam Savage states, "the EP is a great way to introduce the steps forward we've taken with the new recordings that we've been working on this year, and gives a taste of what's to come on the new full length album "This Means War" which will be out in early 2010." Savage also makes clear that all of the songs on "Revenge" are exclusive to this EP and will not be on the upcoming full length CD, stating, "We wanted to keep the EP as something special for the fans and not make them re-buy the same songs when the new album comes out."
The "Revenge" EP features the songs: Scum, Catharsis, Beyond Repair, Butterknife Suicide, and Point a Finger (featuring guest vocals by Tylor Monroe of Scarecrow Hill). Two tracks from the EP, "Butterknife Suicide" and "Scum," are currently available in streaming format on the band's MySpace page
Mongrel just taped an episode of Scorch's PFG-TV (an Internet and cable TV "late night" style show) on which they performed the new EP in it's entirety. The episode of the show will air on various cable stations in 85 cities around the country and online at www.PFG-TV.com starting Saturday, October 10th.

Boston's Mongrel is slated to hit the studio in the coming weeks to begin work on the follow up to their debut album "Fear, Lies, & Propaganda." The yet untitled new album will again be released on Screaming Ferret Wreckords and will be engineered by Tim Koukos (whose prior work includes Nuclear Assault & Meliah Rage) and mixed by Jeff Wallace (whose prior work includes Biohazard, Pro Pain, & End of an Era).
"Since we recorded the last album we’ve been really busy with shows throughout the North Eastern, Mid-West, and Mid-Atlantic states and have expanded our fan base playing shows with The Misfits, GWAR, Otep, Prong, Wednesday13, Piggy D (Rob Zombie bassist), Dizzy Reed (Guns N’ Roses keyboardist), Michale Graves, etc. so we’re really looking forward to finally taking the time to get back into the studio to record our next full length album and to work with Tim (Koukos) and Jeff (Wallace) to help take the recording to the next level" stated the punk/metal band’s founder, Adam Savage. Freshly signed to Screaming Ferret Wreckords, Mongrel, made up by singer Drew Barker, guitarists Adam Savage and Andrew X, bassist Rev, and drummer Ed Loguercio, are aiming to leave their mark with a newly re-released version of their debut full-length, "Fear, Lies, and Propaganda."
"Recording 'Fear, Lies, and Propaganda' was a very busy but rewarding time," recalls the group's leader and main songwriter, Savage. "Mongrel doesn't really know how to take time off, so during the period of time we were recording, mixing, mastering, we were also playing 6-10 shows a month as well. Our nights off from shows more often than not meant an afternoon and/or evening in the studio to do some tracking, over-dubs, or mixing whenever the studio was available over a couple months time. The great thing was that despite the busy schedule, no matter who was at the studio on a given night doing some work we always were productive and had a lot of fun and a lot of laughs, including our engineer."
Mongrel's "Fear, Lies, and Propaganda" balances old school punk intensity and energy with hard rock hooks and riffs and also including elements of grunge and metal.
But the album is only part of the equation, as a Mongrel concert is certainly an unforgettable experience, admits Savage. "Once we're on stage, it's no holds barred with the always possible risk of injury with 4 people up front in near constant motion. It's high energy, intense, and fun, interactive with the crowd, we love it when the crowd sings along and allows us to feed off that energy between the performance and the people up front. Fans can expect a band that is always willing to hang out and chat because we're all music fans too and are always eager to talk to the bands that we love so it is very important for us to interact with anyone who wants to at our shows."
"We are looking to tour more extensively both here in the US and with any luck in Europe as well. We are looking to record and release our next full-length album within the next year, with most of it already written and tested out live. Continuing to build upon our strong work ethic and strong connection with our fans, spreading the word, getting more media exposure, and hopefully never resorting to using the cliche 'Our new album is heavier yet more melodic'."
