Selim Lemouchi To Be Honored At Roadburn Festival

The organizers of the Roadburn Festival have issued the following announcement about honoring Selim Lemouchi (The Devil's Blood, Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies), who passed away earlier this year:

"The Devil's Blood's first-ever show at Roadburn 2008 was undeniably one of the great moments in the festival's history. After the group disbanded in early 2013, guitarist Selim Lemouchi sought to channel his considerable creative energies into a new project: Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies.

"During 2013, the debut EP Mens Animus Corpus was followed by the release of the full-length Earth Air Spirit Water Fire. The album presentation in December 2013 offered a tantalizing hint of transcendent performances to come, and consequently we at Roadburn HQ were thrilled to add Selim and his new band to this year's Afterburner bill.

"However, thrill turned to sorrow with the news of Selim's passing last month. At first, it was impossible to grasp. How could he be gone? The idea of removing his name from the various Roadburn 2014 posters, press releases and website items was too much to bear. Even after being able to talk with his family, even after having had a little time to grieve, it was still incomprehensible that he would not be joining us. More...

Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies Announces Album

The Devil's Blood mastermind Selim Lemouchi is pleased to enter a brand new chapter of sonic exploration with Selim Lemouchi & His Enemies and debut release "Earth Air Spirit Water Fire." The following press release was issued about the album:

"Recorded, mixed and mastered in part by Pieter G. Kloos, the offering, written by Lemouchi alongside his new sparring partner and old friend Robby Geerings had, even before its conceptualization, shown itself to be a creature of a different nature altogether.

"Each one of the five tracks which comprise its unity seemed a galaxy away from any of the others. Each of their unique structures, stylistic leanings and lyrical content diverged significantly from the rest. Diverging from the same source though and seemingly returning to that same source as well.

"The emotions of the Madman; depression, desire, demurity, decadence and determination had seemed to veer out from the same point of origin and had found each other in that oft spoken of but rarely understood concept of completion; initiation. For the first time, Lemouchi brought together a bright and burning throng of people into the fold of his inspiration.

"Not telling anyone what exactly to do, not deciding this way or the other beforehand and not taking back any of his decisions once they were made, he ventured into what was for him the most adventurous recording session of his life.

"With four drummers, a handful of guitar players, a few synthesizer players, several vocalists, a great cover artist and many, many hours that were filled with laughter, tears, anger and spiritual communion as well as communication of the more direct kind, he brought the 5(x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5x5) dimensions of the pentacle, the pentagram and the pentagon into the flesh as he perceived, understood and accepted them. Metal: Sound or Image?

One of the most defining moments in my musical development was back in 2004 when Yahoo Launch saw that I liked listening to Unearth, Fear Factory, and Lamb of God and thought that I might enjoy My Chemical Romance's “I'm Not Okay.” That single moment of revulsion caused me to look for music on my own terms after seeing how some corny and cheesy pop-rock could somehow be marketed towards metalheads. Today, we see a number of bands that try to look and act like they're part of the metal scene through their image (and the bands they tour with), but have a sound rooted more in traditional rock and roll than anything spawned by Sabbath.

First off, I'm not here to debate the merits of bands like Ghost and Ancient VVisdom. The debate over artistic integrity isn't at all relevant here. Instead, this is about is marketing and claiming bands that in no way sound “metal” are still technically considered part of the metal scene. Personally, I do like some occult rock as I've long been a fan of Current 93 and I've done my fair share of listening to Coven. That said, I'd never call Current 93 a metal band nor would I want the group touring with Cannibal Corpse. Variety between acts belongs to big music festivals like Bonaroo and Lollapalooza, and not to small club shows. More...

The Devil's Blood Announces New Shows

The Devil's Blood has announced the band's final round of live shows for the year, which can be found below. The occult rock outfit also comments:

"After a tremendously successful North American tour and a short round of conquest over the European festival circuit we have now finalized the planning for this humble but strategically chosen list of venues, where we will celebrate the Bacchanalian festivities of the Saturnalia, the ancient Roman festival of the undoing of law and master/slave role reversal.

"With these Rituals we aim to inspire within all in attendance the rebellious nature of He Who is Without Light and make them realize their Divine potential and discover within themselves the kernel of fierceness and power known as the Inner Flame.

"We hope that all in attendance will heed the Call of the Wild and release their restraint to find in wine, truth, in fire, strength, in blood, love and in madness, freedom. This tour has been dubbed The Everlasting Satournalia.

"Ván Records has taken the opportunity with these Rituals to promote a new, young member in its roster and German Heavy Metal Traditionalists ATTIC have been selected as a direct support."

The Devil's Blood will be performing in support of latest album "The Thousandfold Epicentre" (reviewed here) on the following dates: More...

Decibel Magazine Show Changes Venues

The inaugural Decibel Magazine tour kicks off in a mere eight days in Columbus, OH. It wasn't too late, however, for the venue owners to prohibit the bands from appearing at The Brewmaster's Gate. Behemoth, Watain, The Devil's Blood, and In Solitude are being forbidden from playing at the venue because of religious conflicts with the venue owners. These bands are no strangers to this type of treatment, and a new venue has already been confirmed. The Columbus, OH show will now be at Al Rosa. Tickets for this show are still available and can be purchased here.

Behemoth's front man, Nergal, comments further: "Wow, big motherfuckin' WOW! We are facing a legendary moment: Amerika, the land of the free, is banning Behemoth coz of religious beliefs. The madness starts in Ohio, but of korz we are playing anyway. Nothing can stop us now. God, please save me from this freedom…"

Beginning on April 11th and laying waste through a gargantuan 26-date run, the Decibel Magazine Tour (presented by Metal Blade Records, IndieMerchStore.com, FYE, ESP Guitars and Good Fight Entertainment) not only offers four diverse European artists hand-picked by the magazine, but doubles as Behemoth's first U.S. tour since vocalist/guitarist Adam "Nergal" Darski's well-documented battle with—and triumph over—leukemia. The Devil's Blood Comments On Upcoming Tour

Dutch occult rockers The Devil's Blood are gearing up for a near month-long run of North American dates on the forthcoming Decibel Magazine Tour alongside Behemoth, Watain and In Solitude. The band will be touring in support of "The Thousandfold Epicentre" (reviewed here) released earlier this year via Metal Blade Records.

Comments founder and band leader SL: “The Devil's Blood is proud and extremely eager to travel the New World alongside some of the world’s most dedicated metal bands. Dedicated not to some pathetic notion of ‘scene’ or ‘unity’ but to a clear, totally individual, spiritual path that although not understood by most is perhaps the most valid and urgent one available for wandering feet to travel in the twilight of the Iron Age. We share many opinions and disagree on many more, yet our offerings all speak of that great mystery which we all aspire to with passion and fury. Praise be to all those who accompany us on this particular path.”
