On March 16th, 2012, Motorbreath Entertainment intended to create one of the best lineups featuring bands from the “New Wave of Thrash Metal.” Exmortus, Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf and Witchaven were on the bill to play Betsy’s Bar at Austin’s annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival. Oregon’s Spellcaster offered a style more in line with the New Wave of Classic Metal scene that has, in a sense, run parallel with the new thrash movement.
Besides Corrosion of Conformity who came to town with their crossover thrash, “Animosity” lineup, thrash metal is an endangered species in Austin during this time of the year. When I saw Motorbreath had organized a lineup of such great, young thrash bands, I had to help with promotion. Unfortunately, a number of mishaps led to Betsy’s Bar canceling the show. However, thanks to Alex Campos of local metal marauders, Beyond The Blood, the show went on! More...
Metal Underground previously reported the cancellation of Motorbreath's SXSW show featuring artists such as Havok, Bonded By Blood and Spellcaster. We contacted Motorbreath owner and show booker, Tristan Spears to get his side of the story. Now, in all fairness, we bring our readers the other side of the story told by a representative of Betsy's Bar. More...
Motorbreath Entertainment's SXSW Showcase contained a tremendous bill of new school thrash and heavy metal artists such as Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf, Exmortus, Witchaven and Spellcaster. The stellar lineup was the only old school-metal oriented event at SXSW, which was cause for Metal Underground to sponsor the event. Unfortunately, the March 16th show at Betsy's came to a abrupt and disappointing end. After the first three bands performed, Motorbreath founder, Tristan Spears announced that if more people didn't drink more alcohol, the show would be canceled. After much deliberation, the show was indeed canceled.
Spears provided Metal Underground with the following statement: More...

You can also check out a show report of Witchaven at the Maryland Death Fest by heading over to this location.
I’ve only heard half-remembered memories about this festival. I really had no idea what to expect about the stage lay-out, the area of town, the people, or the bar situation. As I walked down the hill to Sonar, I gradually saw the small bunch of metalheads walking in to see the first band Witchaven. I entered the main hall and followed the crude, hand-written signs explaining where the stage was in the dark, labyrinthine building. Entering into the main room for the first time was like stepping into a metal dream; coming from the hot, sunny outdoors to a cold, pitch black massive room with seemingly no end and seeing an awesome band already in progress with ultra bright flashing lights interrupting your vision and furthering the illusion of this chamber. The Maryland Deathfest organizers report that "Sonar will be re-opening before MDF, and technically they already have."
As previously reported, the venue of the Maryland Deathfest was up in the air when Baltimore's Sonar nightclub failed to renew their liquor license and closed its doors.
The organizers futher commented: "These last couple of days have been incredibly confusing and stressful, but we are currently back to the regularly scheduled program. And don't worry, beyond plan B is a plan C, because that's how we roll. See you in a couple of weeks."
As such, the set times that were previously announced should now hold.

Bonded By Blood, who are currently on tour with Exmortus and Witchaven, have issued the following recap after the first show of the tour:
"Let me keep you up to date one everything thats going on in the touring world of BBB. We started our way of California on March 6th 2009 @ 12 am on our way to Las Vegas. By this time we were already packed and had Exmortus with us. We ended up passing by Hesperia where we waited for Witchaven and sooner than later we were already on our way. 4 hrs later we ended up in famous Las Vegas. Our destination was your run of the mill 21 and over bar named "The Four Aces". We get there around 6 or 7. The place looked kind of dead no one really there. We finally talk to the promoter around 8 he says the show does not start till 930. So we wait aroudn and set up merch . Bar lady asks us if we are all over age and at first i thought she was going to be a dick about not everyone being over age but she ended up being cool and let us all in. The time was set it end it up being 9 and Witchaven was setting up for what set to be a very killer set they put on. Ive seen these guys a couple times but they really stepped it up on this new material. About 30 min later it was Exmortus turn and the crowd was really digging it. Drunken assholes all over the place. The clock struck 11 it was BBB's turn to hit the stage. People shouting names of our songs beer flying everywhere. It was a great start of a tour. We ended the night by hitting the strip eating some food and driving our asses to AZ. Tonight should be killer. Quote of The day for vegas:"Shut up you dumbass bitch. Ill knock your tooth out with my pito" -Mario Moreno."
