2:00am. Beach Bar. So this is where it all ends. The final showdown.
Trollfest came on after Sabaton and played some lively little ditties, including the official Metalcamp theme, but after three songs, we were ready to call it a show. We dropped off all our shit back at camp, and now here we are.
Business is booming at the food stands and raging at the bar, and once again, the strippers are out in full force. We’ve found an empty table on the covered deck ringing the steep hill that meets the narrow beach.
... Continued from Part I...
9… something… am. Or maybe it’s 10, or maybe I’m in Hell. All I know is that the sun has risen, transforming my tent into a “Bridge On The River Kwai” sweatbox and my sleeping bag into a dehydration cocoon. I’m marinating.
Cooking aromas. Eggs frying, a Mediterranean whiff of olive oil, the universal scent of black coffee. Subdued, slow-motion, hung-over camp chatter. An unfamiliar voice: “Mind if I drop in for a meet-and-greet?” Male, low and steady-pitched, Eastern European. Might as well get my ass moving and be social. Also, I’m starving again.
I peel away my constraints, fumbling, slippery, dazed. I unzip the door and gasp for breath. The open air feels cucumber-cool by comparison and prickles my skin.
With nature doing all the work around here, who needs an alarm clock? More...

The organizers of the Barge to Hell have issued the following announcement about confirming Holy Moses as the latest act to play the cruise:
"Who better to lead them on their journey to the undead than the mighty Holy Moses celebrating their 30th anniversary? Not once, because as you know, they do everything twice. You heard right, twice! Here is how it goes: On December 3rd, 40 of the most extreme Metal Bands and 2,000 headbangers from around the world will go to the Caribbean to take over a luxury cruise ship for a 5 day and 4 night trip to the undead! For the entire trip it's like everyone has a backstage pass and you can mingle side-by-side with the Artists in this incredibly fan-friendly scenario that has no comparison. "The luxurious 'A Chorus Line' theater where they spare no expense to have the benches removed on the floor. Because at a Metal show, who actually wants assigned seating in front of the stage?
"The cozy 'Spectrum' that gives you the real club feeling.
"And their jewel: The open air stage on the pool deck. The biggest festival stage to sail the Oceans.
"You can also get all your memorabilia signed at the Meet & Greet sessions. Be part of their infamous Metal Karaoke and many other special activities with the Artists. And last, but not least: Don't forget that they have bars on board that never close! What are you waiting for? You might even need a vacation from this vacation when all is said and done."

Legendary Swedish death metal vocalist Tomas "Goatspell" Lindberg (AT THE GATES, GROTESQUE, DISFEAR) has contributed a foreword to the upcoming 744-page hardcover book "METALION: The Slayer Mag Diaries," by Jon Kristiansen. Lindberg's connection to Norway's Slayer Mag dates to the 1980s, when he and Kristiansen were part of a core group of Swedish and Norwegian headbangers during the wild early years of the Scandinavian extreme metal scene.
"Metalion and his Slayer Mag are responsible for me (and a lot of other Swedes) getting into the death metal underground," begins Lindberg. "I clearly remember how proud I was when Grotesque got a mention in the classic mag-this meant more to me than anything else at the time!"
Part anthology, part memoir, and years in the making, "METALION" includes over 600 reproduction pages from every issue of Slayer mag, spanning from the early 1980s through 2010. In addition, author Jon Kristiansen recounts his life's story, from alienated outsider to central figure in Norwegian black metal to world-weary metal survivor. The book also features over 100 rare photographs, including two color sections and a portrait gallery of photographs taken by Kristiansen himself.
"The greatest heavy metal story ever told" will be available June 6, 2011, wherever books are sold, and is available for preorder now with two bonus limited patches from Bazillion Points Books, "America's smallest but heaviest book publisher."
Scottish death metallers Cerebral Bore have been confirmed to play at this year's Neurotic Deathfest, which takes place on April 29th and 30th in Tilburg, the Netherlands. Other acts on the bill include At The Gates, Autopsy, Obituary, Hate Eternal, Decapitated, and more. For more information about the Neurotic Deathfest, head to this location.
Cerebral Bore formed in 2006 in Glasgow, Scotland and have toured relentlessly around the globe. The band is comprised of front woman Som Pluijmers, guitarist Paul Mcguire, bassist Kyle Rutherford, and drummer Allan Mcdibet.
The band's debut album, "Maniacal Miscreation," is due to be released on Earache Records on April 4th, 2011.
The organizers of the Party.San 2011 festival have issued the following announcement about more bands appearing on the bill:
"Raised from the ashes of Hellhammer and Celtic Frost by Tom Gabriel Fischer himself, PARTY.SAN 2011 is proud and honored to announce the addition of Triptykon to its expanding bill of bands. Hell literally broke loose with the release of the band's Eparistera Daimone debut. Pitch black and truly evil music for devoted fans of extreme metal.
"Gorguts from Canada recently joined the PARTY.SAN bill. A death metal dinosaur of sorts, the band formed in 1989 and, having survived a host of trends, tragedies and breakups, are still going strong today. Gorguts will present to you a technical and extremely furious death metal show you will never forget.
"Enslaved are easily among Norway’s finest bands. The progressive black/Viking metal ensemble has remained dark and innovative for their two-decade-long existence and will bring their monolithic blackness to the PARTY.SAN 2011 stage." More...
U.K. based melodic power metal act Power Quest has been confirmed for the 2011 edition of the Bloodstock Festival. The organizers of the festival commented on the band's appearance:
"The three latest additions for the Sophie stage come from both near and afar, with an international coalition representing the UK, Europe and South America. Homegrown heroes Power Quest return to Bloodstock for the second time, after going down a storm at the indoor fest of 2003. Currently gearing up to release new album 'Blood Alliance,' the melodic power-metallers can expect a hearty, warm welcome back to Catton Hall
"With a host of exclusive performances already confirmed - including headliners Immortal, plus Morbid Angel, Therion, At The Gates, and many more, across three stages of music, plus comedy, fairground rides and a real ale bar, BOA 2011 is an essential date in the metal calendar. Tickets are on sale now at this location."

At The Gates has been confirmed to perform at the 2011 edition of the Bloodstock Open Air Festival. "We had such a blast during the 2008 reunion that we decided to do some more shows." states drummer Adrian Erlandsson. He continues, "We had an amazing gig at Bloodstock in 2008 and are really looking forward to playing there again." The Bloodstock Open Air organizers commented:
"One of the most influential metal bands of the last 20 years, At The Gates made a permanent mark after 1995’s 'Slaughter Of The Soul' album captured the imaginations of metal heads the world over. Taking the aggression of death metal and lacing it heavily with melody, the album was released to huge critical acclaim - including a Swedish Grammy nomination - and At The Gates looked set to take the world by storm. However disbanding in 1996 meant the next chapter was never written. The 12 years that passed left hundreds of thousands of fans hoping that one day they would get to see their heroes again.
"Their wish came true and At The Gates reunion was one of the summer festival highlights across Europe in 2008. Now the band return for an exclusive appearance, and Bloodstock is honoured to welcome them back for what is bound to be an unforgettable set at Catton Hall."
