Conan Announces North American Tour

Conan is as heavy as interplanetary thunder amplified through the roaring black hole anus of Azathoth. Remember that sentence, for it is writ large in virgin blood on the walls of the forgotten temple of Bol-Krastor, deep in the steaming forests of forgotten Lemuria.

This monumentally brutal three piece will invade North America in May on tour with North. In addition to the headline run, Conana will also take part in this year's Maryland Death Fest and 71 Grind Fest in Colorado Springs, CO. A complete list of dates can be found below.

Conan frontman Jon Davis commented: "We are excited to get back to the USA and Canada to play at Maryland Death Fest, 71 Grind and also the other awesome shows we have lined up. We are also looking forward to sharing the road with our friends in North." More...

North Releases "Primal Bloom" Video

Tucson, Arizona sludge outfit North is eager to reveal a new music video for the enticing single “Primal Bloom,” taken from Prosthetic Records debut “Light The Way.”

Being the band's first video to feature live performance and staged footage, the trio jested ”We’ve never been a band that featured ourselves or our image up front, so now the world gets to see how strange we look!”

North comes on to say, “The song itself is one that we singled out, pretty much immediately after it’s conception, that was something different for us… something more raw and powerful. From the first time practicing it, we already had visions of a music video behind it. It’s something that will pull in someone who has never listened to us before and when they hear it, they will want to hear more.” More...

North Streaming New Song

Following the recent announcement of "Metanoia," the forthcoming 12" EP from dusty post-sludge metal collective North, Cvlt Nation today hosts a stream of the track "Hiraeth." Give it a listen below.

Describes drummer Zachary Hansen of the forlorn number: "'Hiraeth' is the second song we wrote for this particular release. It came about last Spring. We began writing it as a five-piece, first played it live as a four-piece, and recorded it as a three-piece. This song is the last piece of the transition from The Great Silence era North. It's such a heavy, emotional song for us. It was dubbed 'Nunu' during the writing process, being the second new song we had written in the time frame.

"Song titles are the last step of the process for us. 'Hiraeth' is a Welsh word that has no direct translation in English. It has a general meaning of homesickness, or of a longing for a place that no longer really exists. How apt it feels for this band, a group that has had such highs and lows throughout its history. To look back in regret over wasted time and squandered youth. Melancholic, dark, adventuresome. We occasionally miss our past and the people in it, and yet always look forward to the future."

"Metanoia" will be released independently on March 11th, 2014, just one day before a nearly two-week bout of live takeovers throughout the Western portion of the US. See confirmed dates below. More...

North Announces EP Release

Atmospheric post sludge metal sorcerers North are preparing to unleash the ethereal rumblings of their "Metanoia" 12" EP on March 11th, 2014.

The EP was recorded and mixed by Dana Fehr Wavelab Studios in Tucson, Arizona with additional engineering by Chris Shultz and mastering by James Plotkin (OLD, Scorn, Khanate, Khlyst), and will serve as the follow-up to 2012's "The Great Silence." Elaborates guitarist Matthew Mutterperl of the compelling offering:

"Metanoia is defined as 'a change in one life's resulting from penitence or spiritual conversion.' Since our last LP, we've dealt with internal struggles that possibly could have stalled or stopped us completely, but there was a conscious effort. There were a series of moments where things changed, and where we needed to go, what we needed to do, and who we needed to be felt markedly different. This record is evidence of that; a preview of a newfound sense of being in a band, making music, and building complex relationships with good people for almost nine years. To me, the record couldn't have had any other title. It was the most appropriate." More...
