"Whenever we play with any Bay Area band, we always put a little bit extra,” admits guitarist Lee Altus of Bay Area thrash outfit Exodus. “If you wanna really see Exodus at their best, it's always with another Bay Area band - like Death Angel. We have this friendly competition, too. They know - anytime you play with us, we're going after you! Exodus Streaming New Track Featuring Kirk Hammett

The wait is over! Today, the Bay Area thrash metal pioneers in Exodus unleash their blistering new track "Salt The Wound," which features an intense guitar solo from none other than original Exodus/Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett.

Check out the track below, thanks to Rollingstone.com. "Salt The Wound" is cut from the new Exodus album "Blood In, Blood Out," hitting stores on October 14th, 2014 in North America via Nuclear Blast.

Guitarist Gary Holt explains that Hammett was more than ready to play on the album: “Having Kirk play on the new Exodus record kind of came about after I played so many shows with Metallica while touring with Slayer over the past four year. It started the same way most of these things do, as a lot of chatter while having a good time, but Kirk was more stoked to play on the new record than anyone.

"He never got to play on anything with Exodus since the first demo despite being a founding member, so I think it really meant a lot to him. Coming full circle so to speak. So I chose the song 'Salt the Wound' since I thought the rhythm section for the first lead was right in his wheelhouse, and he killed it! He came in and busted out several takes and his solo compliments mine perfectly. Then we drank beer and ate barbecue! Epic time!” More...

Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 29

Break out your tissue box and keep those cyanide tablets handy (just in case): you’re in for a bummed-out train wreck of an episode this week on the MetalUnderground.com Official Podcast. Stay tuned to the end, however, to see if your opinions match up with those of your silver-tongued co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure).

Before we begin, yet another reminder of our upcoming ticket giveaways at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. First comes The Black Dahlia Murder (supported by Suicide Silence) on Monday, October 13th, followed by Attila (supported by Crown The Empire and Like Moths To Flames) on Friday, November 14th.

If interested, please fire an email to podcast@metalunderground.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading and your full name (matching your ID) in the message body.

Additionally, if you’re an unsigned metal band with a kickass song you’d like to hear featured as our weekly intro music, we’d like to hear it! Please contact us via the email address above.

Now, time to get depressed. Mike bids solemn farewell to an underrated talent in the global metal underground: Tobias Graf, founding drummer of German melodic/symphonic death metal group Deadlock, who this week passed away for undisclosed reasons at the young age of 35. Graf left the band in April of this year, but played on all releases since the band’s 1997 formation.

Next… here come the Thought Police! We wish it were a joke, but a Kentucky youth has indeed been arrested and charged with domestic terrorism threats… for posting Exodus lyrics on Facebook. The Bay Area thrashers’ 2010 album “Exhibit B: The Human Condition” featured a song titled “Class Dismissed: A Hate Primer,” which told of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting spree through the eyes of the deranged killer. The absurdity of this incident speaks for itself, but that doesn't stop us from commenting on it.

We all saw this coming over the course of the week, but still, it seemed to happen so damn fast. In the ultimate case of déjà vu, frontman Mark Hunter of Chimaira has been completely deserted by his bandmates en masse for the second time in three years. This time, he’s decided to throw in the towel, effectively putting an end to fifteen years and seven albums of cutting-edge American metal. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the matter.

Finally, we react to Swedish metal veterans In Flames’ new studio album “Siren Charms,” due for a September 9th release and currently streaming. Considering our devotion to this band through thick and thin over the years, our frustration in discussing this lackluster and disappointing new release is palpable, and it ain’t pretty.

If you make it through this episode without losing the will to live, then by all means, subscribe via iTunes and RSS feed. We hope to bring you some happier thoughts soon!

Fan Arrested For Posting Exodus Lyrics On Facebook

According to Channel 14 News in Kentucky, a fan in Greenville has been arrested and is currently being jailed for alleged terrorism threats for posting the lyrics to the Exodus song "Class Dismissed," which appeared on the 2010 release "Exhibit B: The Human Condition." The full article on the arrest can be found at this location.

The band's press release reads: "Exodus does not promote or condone terrorists, threats or bullying. That being said, the band is somewhat baffled by the fact that this man being charged for what seems against his first amendment rights of Freedom of Speech."

“The idea that an individual in this great country of ours could be arrested for simply posting lyrics to a song is something I never believed could happen in a free society,” states Exodus guitarist Gary Holt. “James Evans was simply posting lyrics to a band he likes on Facebook, and he was locked up for it. The song ‘Class Dismissed (A Hate Primer)’ was written as a view through the eyes of a madman and in no way endorses that kind of fucked up behavior. It was the Virginia Tech massacre perpetrated by Seung-Hui Cho that was the subject and inspiration to write the song, one in which we put the brakes on playing it live after the Sandy Hook shooting, as we did not want to seem insensitive.”

Gary continues, “As some of us in Exodus are parents, of course these things hit close to home, it's every parent's worst fear. These moments are the stuff of nightmares, and life, as well as music, isn't always pretty. But when we start to overreact to things like lyrics by any band, including Exodus, and start arresting people, we are caving in to paranoia and are well on our way to becoming an Orwellian society.”

Exodus is set to release the new album "Blood In, Blood Out" via Nuclear Blast on October 10th (EU), October 13th (UK) and October 14th (North America). More...

Kirk Hammet And Chuck Billy Guest On Exodus Album

Bay Area thrash metal band Exodus today proudly announces the special guests appearing on "Blood In, Blood Out," the band’s tenth studio album due out on October 14th in North America.

Crafting an industrial sound bed on the intro to the album opener “Black 13” is electronic music producer Dan the Automator (Gorrilaz, Mike Patton).

“We ran into each other a couple times,” shares Exodus guitarist & songwriter Gary Holt. “I knew what I wanted to hear and I knew he could do it, and could do it that day. So we sent him a file with the drums and guitars we already had there and just told him to go crazy with it.”

Testament frontman Chuck Billy lends his signature roar to the track “BTK,” one of the first songs recorded by returning vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza, who recently said, “Chuck and I have known each other forever. We work really well together, we know each other really well. So if I’m doing my vocals and he’s there, I can trust him to go ‘No way Zet, doesn’t sound good like that. Do it like this,’ or ‘Yeah that’s killer.’ If he says it sounds killer, I know it is.”

Original Exodus guitarist Kirk Hammett (Metallica) also contributed a guest solo to “Salt The Wound.”

“This was actually the first time Kirk got to play on an official Exodus release,” states Holt. “He did the early demo, and then joined Metallica and didn’t do anything with us after that. So he was totally gung-ho about it. He came down and ripped out a bunch of takes and we picked the best one and then had a barbecue and drank beer.”

“It felt really casual, really cool – just like it did back in 1980 when we were all just hanging out back in the day,” Hammett confessed to RollingStone.com in July. More...

Exodus Unveils Album Art For "Blood In Blood Out"

Legendary thrash metal band Exodus have unveiled the never-before-seen album art for their upcoming album, "Blood In, Blood Out," which hits retail and digital stores on October 14, 2014 via Nuclear Blast. The album art was illustrated by Swedish artist Par Olofsson, known worldwide for his incredible renderings that have graced the covers of countless heavy metal albums, including Exodus’ "Let There Be Blood."

The concept for the art was impressively envisaged by Olofsson based on the album title alone, as Gary Holt explains, “The concept came from Par Olofsson – I fed him the title and he immediately came up with the final concept, and it’s perfect! One of my favorite covers we’ve ever done and it fits the title and theme to a T!”

"Blood In, Blood Out" is Exodus’ 10th studio album, and marks the band’s first release with new vocalist Steve “Zetro” Souza since 2004’s "Tempo of the Damned." It was also just announced via Rolling Stone that Metallica guitarist Kirk Hammett churned out a special guest solo for one of the tracks on the album. More details are set to be released soon, including release dates, track listing information, pre-order specifics, and more.

To celebrate the imminent release of "Blood In, Blood Out," the band will be busy touring this fall – with a full South American tour leading into a supporting run with fellow metal titans Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies on the Scion-sponsored fall leg of their United States onslaught. The tour begins on November 12th in Oakland, CA at The Fox Theater and will tour throughout the states, coming to close in Detroit, MI at The Fillmore on December 5th. Robert Trujillo To Join Exodus On Stage

It was previously announced that Exodus would play the “Fear FestEvil After Party," and now the band has revealed both Robert Trujillo and Kirk Hammett will come on stage for a special Exodus encore on July 25th in San Diego.

"One of the things when we devised our FestEvil earlier this year, was the importance of having great live bands playing after the day's events,” commented Hammett. “We're happy to share that pretty unique element of what Fear FestEvil productions brings to our cool horror party and events. So it's obviously not a whole new Fear FestEvil convention, it's just a taste of the craziness you find at Fear FestEvil...and rest assured that we are working hard on the full Fear FestEvil II as you read this."

Scion Audio Visual will celebrates San Diego's enormous comic & entertainment convention with Metallica guitar player Kirk Hammett and his toy company Kirk Von Hammett Toys with an exclusive, RSVP-only celebration dubbed the “Fear FestEvil After Party.”

Kirk Von Hammett Toys will also present the Famous Zombies Jr. limited edition toy at the year's San Diego Comic Con. The very limited edition green Hammett figure will be available exclusively at San Diego Comic Con, and Kirk will be signing the toy itself at the Nuclear Blast Records/Stern Pinball/JSR merch SDCC booth 503 on July 25th from 1pm to 2pm, and on Saturday July 26th from 2pm to 3pm.

"I'm stoked to be bringing more exclusive wares to the San Diego Comic Con," says Kirk Von Hammett himself, "Nuclear Blast have been friends for quite some time, so I'm happy to be able to bring one of my exclusives to their booth. Being a fan of comics and movies since I was a kid, it's just a huge honor to be at Comic Con on both sides, selling and buying!"

Slayer Announces Tour With Exodus

With reviews like "the best show in years that I've been blessed to witness," "a metalhead's dream come true," and "...an onslaught of heart-pounding tunes during an evening full of awesome head banging action," how could this trinity of thrash legends not join up again for a full-on road trip?

With Scion proudly presenting, Slayer, Suicidal Tendencies, and Exodus will hit the road this fall, kicking off November 12th in Oakland, CA, playing through to December 5th in Detroit, MI. The confirmed itinerary is below.

Slayer fan club members are invited to take advantage of a ticket pre-sale that will begin this Wednesday, June 25 at 10AM (local time) and ends on Thursday, June 26 at 5:00PM (local time). Fan club members will receive an email with instructions for ticket purchasing. Tickets go on sale to the public this Friday, June 27 at 10:00AM (local time).

Metalunderground.com Official Podcast, Episode 19

There's been no shortage of hot-button weekly metal news lately - well, very little shortage, anyway; sometimes we at the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast (listen here) are forced to make shit up - and perhaps the most hotly contested announcement is that of the big ol' Singer Change. Replace a bassist or keyboardist and no one bats an eye. Replace a guitarist or drummer and healthy debate ensues. Replace a singer and everyone loses their minds.

It happened in March when Alissa White-Gluz (ex-The Agonist) stepped into the shoes of veteran Arch Enemy frontwoman Angela Gossow, and now it's happened again on the Left Coast: Bay Area thrashers Exodus have relieved vocalist Rob Dukes of his duties after nine years and four albums of service, making way for the return of previous frontman Steve "Zetro" Souza. Reactions have been mixed and somewhat heated, and here to discuss just that is your fabulous co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure).

Next, Mike and dashing co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) tackle the fresh new single "Rusted Nail" from Swedish metal giants In Flames, of which they both are confirmed fans for life. However, reactions to this song are mixed as well, and the overall attitude toward the band's upcoming album "Siren Charms" is one of... shall we say, "cautious optimism."

Finally, Mike offers his initial reaction to the upcoming album "Origins" from Swiss folk metal heroes Eluveitie. He was blessed with an early promo for review, and concludes that this effort combines elements of the band's past and present and is likely to satisfy fans old and new alike.

Tune in here, enjoy, and offer us your feedback. You can subscribe via iTunes or RSS, and don't forget to throw in for a free ticket giveaway in Fort Lauderdale (if you're able and willing) for DevilDriver at Revolution Live next Wednesday, June 18th. Just email us at podcast@metalunderground.com with "DEVILDRIVER" in the subject heading, and provide your name matching your ID.
