Exodus Posts "Goliath" Video Online

Exodus have unleashed the colossal title track from their new album, "Goliath," out 20th March via Napalm Records. Revealed today with an accompanying music video, 'Goliath' simmers the tempo down with winding, malevolent leads, towering drums and ominous string work from violinist Katie Jacoby, coupled with intricate guitars by the legendary Gary Holt.

Even over 40 years after their debut, Exodus are steadfast in their refusal to settle for the safety of mediocrity and continue to forge their trademark just as resolutely as they did in their fruition. The band's highly anticipated 12th studio album is their most multifaceted offering so far, featuring several epic collaborations and marking the return of Rob Dukes as lead vocalist.

Exodus on "Goliath":
"'Goliath' may quite possibly be the heaviest thing we have ever done, and certainly the slowest song in our catalogue, as close to doom metal as Exodus can get! Just pure evil, as sinister as it gets, featuring our friend Katie Jacoby, who laid down 18 tracks of strings in the middle harmony section, making the song go from just pure horror to a thing of beauty." Exodus Releases "3111" Music Video

Just last week, Bay Area thrash legends Exodus announced their 12th studio album, "Goliath." Their first album with singer Rob Dukes since 2010, the band’s Napalm Records debut, and the follow-up to their highest-charting record ever will be out March 20, 2026! Along with it, the band revealed the massive opening track "3111" - whose video couldn’t be released due to the footage being too brutal for YouTube.

Gary Holt about the video:
"So here it is, time to share the full, uncensored version of the video for 3111! If you put it in movie terminology, we have the PG, PG13, and with this one, the rate R version! With YouTube flagging what we consider the PG13 version repeatedly with threats of losing our page permanently, (which to be honest contains nothing you can’t find on YT already) we decided to really push it and include all the scenes we KNEW they would not allow! So here’s the full video, with its own website to view! Enjoy!"

Set around the drug war in Mexico’s Ciudad Juárez, sinister “3111” is an intense song showcasing not only Exodus' ever-increasing dynamic approach, even decades into their historic reign, but also their willingness to go exactly where it hurts. Therefore, the band spared no effort to make the video accessible to fans. A censored version is now up on YouTube, while a new website has been set up to show the merciless brutality of "3111" in its true form: http://exodus3111.com/

Exodus on "3111":
"We decided to go hard with the leadoff single, ‘3111’. The song is about the narco killings in Juarez, and ‘3111’ is the estimated number of murders for 2010 alone." More...

Exodus Announces New Album, "Goliath"

Bay Area Thrash legends Exodus unleash Goliath, marking the triumphant return of Rob Dukes.

Exodus have announced their 12th studio album the follow up to their highest charting record ever and Napalm Records debut, "Goliath," out 20th March 2026. Today, the band reveals the massive opening track "3111" – the sinister single strikes dissonant chords before careening into breakneck thrash intensity. This album standout showcases Exodus' ever-increasingly dynamic approach, even decades into their historic reign.

Emerging hungrier than ever in 2026, with Goliath, Exodus reinforces their eternal foothold at the top of thrash metal's hierarchy with 10 of their most diverse, anthemic emissions to date.

Further fuelled by the widely embraced return of iconic late-era frontman Rob Dukes – first appearing on 2005’s "Shovel Headed Kill Machine" – the album boasts what the band describes as the performance of his life. Goliath is Exodus' most collaborative record in their four decade-plus history, featuring songs written by several band members and guest contributions from Peter Tägtgren (Hypocrisy, Pain) and violinist Katie Jacoby.

Exodus commented on "3111": "We decided to go hard with the leadoff single, '3111'. The song is about the narco killings in Juarez, and '3111' is the estimated number of murders for 2010 alone."

The official video is too brutal for YouTube and being denied, it will be released in its entirety at a later time and place. More...

Mystic Festival's Warm-Up Day Was More Than Warm

Do you find yourself wide awake in the middle of the night wondering what is the largest and best heavy metal festival is in Poland? Let me help you if you haven’t been reading all my hype leading up to this festival. The festival is called Mystic Festival and it takes place every June in a shipyard in the very scenic port city of Gdansk, located in the north of Poland. Warm Up Days in brief mean that there’s a reduced number of bands playing that day and a reduced number of stages. In summary, Mystic Festival’s 2025 Warm-Up Day had some heavy hitters in terms of bands, and a little bit of rain (you’ll be reading about the rain in every report, it was a constant nuisance) and a lot of excited metalheads. For full report, please continue to read on…

Mystic Festival Welcomes You!

The first band of the day and the entire festival for me was Alcest. I reviewed their latest album a few months ago, “Les Chants de l'aurore,” and even though I’m not their biggest fan, the album was really good. The same can be said for their set at Mystic Festival. They are competent musicians, they sounded great, but they were a tad boring to watch. There were a lot of Alcest shirts being worn throughout the festival grounds, so they were definitely one of the larger crowd draws on the day.

The next band on my list was a band that’s been trending like a rocket during this past year, medieval heavy metallers, Castle Rat. I’ve heard and read the stories about their live show, and now I was about to see if it was just an exaggeration or something worth my time. The rain started to fall as they took the stage but I forgot about that right away because I was fully entertained throughout my 3-song allowance. Yeah, they’re gimmicky, but their show is unequivocally entertaining. At one point, a human sized rat came out of nowhere and joined the party onstage. I would have loved to stay and watch the whole set, but with my raincoat already soaked, I went to the indoor food court area to wait out the rain before the grunge guitar legend, Jerry Cantrell, began his set.

Then rain finally subsided before the much-anticipated Jerry Cantrell set. He is obviously better known for his work in the grunge super-group, Alice in Chains, but that’s the magic of Mystic Festival, it’s not strictly a metal festival. The festival books punk, rock, and alternative, and EDM acts as well. This year was no exception and you’ll read about them later. As I made my way to the front of the stage, you could feel the excitement from the crowd that had already shown up early. For those that never got to see Alice in Chains while they were a live band, they were more than stoked when they played some favorites such as “Them Bones” and “Would.” Visually, the band wasn’t the most exciting to watch, but I enjoyed hearing those grunge hits live one more time.

Brutal Assault's First Day Was Almost Perfection

Brutal Assault. Have you heard of it? It’s one of the largest summer metal festivals in all of Europe. There are upwards of 150 bands that play touching on just about every heavy genre imaginable. It normally takes place during the first weekend of August and it always occurs on the grounds of an 18th century Czech military fortress located in Jaromer, Czech Republic.

Similar to Wacken, Hellfest and Graspop Metal Meeting, Brutal Assault has a very loyal contingent of fans that attend year after year from all over the globe. This was my fourth Brutal Assault and I don’t foresee myself taking a break from it anytime soon. This year’s line-up was fucking incredible. All my favorite genres were represented well and there were plenty of bands that I’ve never seen before that I was finally going to get to “check that box.”

I had nine bands marked for the first day of the four-day marathon and it began with the grindcore OGs, Terrorizer. I’ve seen them a couple of times before in different line-up variations but today’s with Pete Sandoval and David Vincent making up half of the original lineup was the best one yet. What made this set even better was they only played material from their classic masterpiece, “World Downfall.” If you were to ask me to describe what grindcore is with a single album, this would be it. Peering over at David Vincent from time to time, it’s apparent that he loves playing these songs. He just grooved to them the whole time I was there. I loved this current version of the band and I hope it continues to be a thing (R.I.P. Jesse Pintado).

Terrorizer

Next up was legendary Los Angeles thrashers, Hirax. I’ll preface this next part with that I’m kind of old. Not AARP old, but I think older than most of you that will read this report. There’s probably been no less than fifteen or so times that I could have seen Hirax during a span of 30 years and for whatever reason, I just never got around to it. That was embarrassing to write.

Today, I hated myself even more for taking that long. They were everything that I thought they would be, but so much better. Vocalist Katon De Pena truly enjoys being on stage and he is constantly engaging the audience. The crowd that was there during their set were hardcore fans and already knew their songs by heart. This was one of several “Wow!” moments for me during the entire festival. I’m so glad I got to finally experience Hirax and it won’t be thirty years before I see them next time!

Hirax

Hirax

The next band on my list would play on the same stage after Hirax, but first it was time to refuel. Brutal Assault probably has the largest variety of victuals to choose from of any festival I’ve ever attended. There is something for everyone. Every dietary restriction imaginable is not an issue at Brutal Assault, you are covered. For my meal, I chose to go with what I call “Greek Lo Mein” but in actuality, it was gyro meat and noodles. However I describe it, it was carbs and meat. Just what I needed to get through the rest of the day/night.

The band Finntroll is an acquired taste. Their quirky take on blackened folk metal sets them apart from other bands that side on black or folk metal exclusively. Maybe it’s the prosthetic troll ears? Or, maybe it’s the upbeat, happy sounding riffing paired with scowling vocals? Finntroll’s sound skirts right down the middle of the two genres and it’s awesome. I’ve seen them twice before but this was my favorite set out of all of them. This stage (Obscure Stage) was too small for them in my opinion. There were people stretched out all the way to the where the festival grounds open up for the vending, portable bathrooms, and merch tents.

Exodus, Exumer & Hirax Invade Islington

When it comes to metal's many sub-genres, thrash metal may well be the most exciting. Inspired by punk, it took the speed and aggression of the genre and mixed it with the intricacies of metal, becoming something which could switch between serious and fun easily, and with the energy contained in the music, it's almost a sonic fountain of youth. If ever there was a band that took the aggression and fun of thrash to the extreme, it was the Bay Area's own Exodus. Founded back in 1979 by guitarist Kirk Hammett and drummer Tom Hunting, along with Keith Stewart and Tim Agnello, the band became legendary in the iconic California thrash scene and their debut, "Bonded By Blood," is an unquestionable classic. They've released a further ten albums since then, along with live releases and lineup shake ups but in 2024, they're as strong as ever. With the release of their new live record, "British Disaster: The Battle of '89 (Live at the Astoria)," it seemed like the perfect time to see them once more in London, this time with some very special guests.

Opening the show tonight was fellow Bay Area thrashers Hirax. On a personal note, I've waited literally half of my life to see Hirax, so expectations were high. I'm glad to report that expectations weren't just met, they were exceeded. Still led by vocalist Katon de Pena (although fans of both bands will know that there was a brief period where former Exodus vocalist Paul Baloff fronted the group,) the singer is still in magnificent form, belting out old favourites such as "The Plague" and "Warlords Command" with sheer ferocity. The rest of the band are playing to their fullest too, keeping the songs sounding fresh and fierce and the crowd were into every minute of it.

Katon endeared himself to the London faithful, continuously engaging with them, while also trying to get as many songs in as possible since the doors opened later than scheduled. New songs "Drill Into The Brain," "Drowned Bodies" and "Faster Than Death" all sounded excellent and easily on par with the best tracks of their career. Hirax promised to come back to London with a longer set and I can't wait for them to do so, because this was so much fun from start to finish and maybe if I'm really lucky, they'll play "Unleash The Dogs Of War" then too.
