2:00am. Beach Bar. So this is where it all ends. The final showdown.
Trollfest came on after Sabaton and played some lively little ditties, including the official Metalcamp theme, but after three songs, we were ready to call it a show. We dropped off all our shit back at camp, and now here we are.
Business is booming at the food stands and raging at the bar, and once again, the strippers are out in full force. We’ve found an empty table on the covered deck ringing the steep hill that meets the narrow beach.

9… something… am. Or maybe it’s 10, or maybe I’m in Hell. All I know is that the sun has risen, transforming my tent into a “Bridge On The River Kwai” sweatbox and my sleeping bag into a dehydration cocoon. I’m marinating.
Cooking aromas. Eggs frying, a Mediterranean whiff of olive oil, the universal scent of black coffee. Subdued, slow-motion, hung-over camp chatter. An unfamiliar voice: “Mind if I drop in for a meet-and-greet?” Male, low and steady-pitched, Eastern European. Might as well get my ass moving and be social. Also, I’m starving again.
I peel away my constraints, fumbling, slippery, dazed. I unzip the door and gasp for breath. The open air feels cucumber-cool by comparison and prickles my skin.
With nature doing all the work around here, who needs an alarm clock? More...
Belgian melodic death metallers HERFST posted the following message on their official website:
"After countless hours of debate, HERFST has decided to stop cooperating with our vocalist Arne [Vandenhoeck]. This decision will come as a shock to most of you, but we figured that his voice was no longer the genre we are looking for and the direction we're heading. We have been good friends ever since we first hooked up so many years ago, so it has been one tough decision to make. We have been through good and hard times together but we decided it was time to move on. Arne will not be a part of our (recorded) "N e c r o t i c a" album but he will make some guest appearances on there, and he will play a couple of farewell shows in the appropriate manner. We would like to express our vast gratitude to his significant share in our uprising, and will eternally be bonded, as friends and musicians. We wish him all the best in his (promising) new projects and will definitively be following his further activities in the scene."
Arne's personal statement is as follows:
"Yeah, the die has cast... it feels strange and uncomfortable waking up as ex-singer of Herfst, after 5 years of dedication and passion. The news came as a shock, but... when you lack the necessary respect and confidence in your work, well, going on is not an option anymore. I regret the fact that I can't do my thing on Necrotica, since I had been looking forward to it as much as the other guys. BUT I respect their decision and will help the band when needed, as this is not a personal issue, but a musical one! I lost 'my' band, but gained a lot of experiences, friends and friendship that will last thanks to the band. I will do the upcoming gigs and will enjoy them as never before! and after that... new adventures will lay on my path of persistence."
Later, the band posted the following:
"HERFST is looking for a new vocalist. We're not going to make it easy for the auditions, so here are without frills the requirements he/she must live up to:
- have a broad vocal range: well defined grunts and passionate screams. Clean vocals are a definite plus.
- self esteem but not self overestimation. Huge ego's are not welcome in this band.
- A penchant for dark, melodic extreme metal.
- a good stage presence (charisma, being able to work the crowd) is a must.
- Influences range from DISSECTION to EXTOL to OPETH to NEVERMORE"
