In the wake of several bouts of stateside tours supporting second LP "Reverence To Stone," Seattle doom quartet Samothrace will storm European shores this May with Bell Witch. The band's publicist issued the following statement:
"The fifteen-city trek begins with Samothrace crushing the masses as one of the headliners of this year’s Heavy Days in Doomtown, a D.I.Y. doom/sludge festival in Copenhagen, Denmark running from May 2nd through 5th.
"This year the gathering also features performances from Graves At Sea, Pagan Altar, Cough, Procession, Danava, Moss, Dark Buddah Rising, Conan, Lecherous Gaze, labelmates Mournful Congregation and loads more in addition to Bell With, who will support Samothrace for the duration of the tour which will steamroll its way hazily through Belgium, England, Holland, France, Switzerland, Italy, Slovenia, the Czech Republic and Germany.
"The acclaimed Reverence To Stone was released in July of 2012 via 20 Buck Spin, the label also responsible for unveiling the band to the masses on the masterful 2008 debut Samothrace album, Life’s Trade. Through two lumbering, expansive tracks, the band explores more cavernous realms of thunderous tone hand-in-hand with even more beautiful and organic elements than ever on Reverence To Stone, culminating in an incredibly real sounding psychedelic doom metal that continues to prove Samothrace as one of the leading bands of the genre."

Seattle doom merchants Samothrace will embark on a U.S. Winter tour in support of the "Reverence To Stone" LP with a hometown show tonight.
For the duration of the tour, Samothrace will be performing "Reverence To Stone" in its entirety each night. Joined by Metal Blade doom trio Pilgrim for the majority of the trek, the tour will make a mangled, counter-clockwise loop through the Midwest, Gulf Coast, Southeast and up the East Coast, with eighteen cities confirmed to endure slow motion turmoil during the venture.
The tour is sponsored by Invisible Oranges, which today posted a pre-tour feature on the band. On the creation of Samothrace’s mammoth but infectious hymns, guitarist Brian Spinks states, “Our songs start with a set of riffs and we play it a couple different ways and play until it varies. We spend a lot of time making sure everything flows together and when we play the song over and over, the riffs then start to evolve and morph in and out of each other.”
In a recent MetalSucks tour feature, Samothrace drummer Joe Axler commented, “When we perform these songs live most of the time we end up actually playing some parts slower and some parts faster depending on the mood we are in and the feeling we are getting in the room and from the people in attendance. We feed off of the people in the crowd greatly and (without sounding too hippy) the general aura at each show has a huge affect on how our set goes.” More...
Samothrace has posted the confirmed routing for the band's upcoming Winter U.S. tour, as the crew continue to support second LP, "Reverence To Stone." The album is available for streaming through Pitchfork here or in the player below.

The majority of the dates will see Samothrace forging alongside Metal Blade doom trio Pilgrim.
The touring will continue this Spring, as Samothrace will advance onto European soil for the first time ever. Following the fest the quartet will traverse the European continent on an additional two week tour, with dates to be announced in the coming weeks. More...

"The most important thing right now is family. We are stoked to have had the opportunity to do the tour and will be planning to make our way out east in the near future. We appreciate the understanding."

As the sophomore release from Seattle's harbingers of doom, Samothrace, nears release via 20 Buck Spin, this week the band confirms a rash of tour dates for later in the Summer.
First up, Samothrace will headline a West Coast tour in August. This routing, still under construction, will see the quartet playing five confirmed shows throughout California -- including the headlining slot at Deadfest alongside dozens of extreme, underground acts -- as well as two record release shows in the Pacific Northwest to be announced in the days ahead. Following that, the band will embark on the Paths To Oblivion Tour, with Samothrace joining Pallbearer and Royal Thunder for a nine-date run throughout the eastern half of the country during the first two weeks of September.
Samothrace's "Reverence To Stone" will see the light of day on CD, LP and digital download on July 31st via 20 Buck Spin. The new hymns were constructed at Soundhouse Studios in the band's hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) at the turn of the year, then mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea). The album's cover art was painted by hardcore/punk musician and artist Moses Saarni. More...
Doom metal harbingers Samothrace this week proudly announce the completion of their second LP. The new hymns were constructed at Soundhouse Studios in Samothrace's hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) at the turn of the year, then mastered at Earhammer by Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Graves At Sea).
Bearing the title "Reverence To Stone," the LP's two extensive tracks -- "When We Emerged" and "A Horse Of Our Own" -- engulf nearly thirty-five minutes, presenting the unit's revered, multi-faceted doom at its most expansive to date.
Stated founding guitarist/vocalist Brian Spinks on the forthcoming album: "Man, it’s been almost four years since our debut release Life’s Trade, but we are still alive and kicking. We’ve endured some member changes and some definite peaks and valleys in our personal lives, but we are truly stoked to be releasing our second album, Reverence to Stone working again with 20 Buck Spin. We have certainly matured in our playing and writing, but we still worship tone and the heavy. Always have and always will… We thank everyone who has hung in there waiting for something new from us. We've done our best not to disappoint." More...
After nearly four years without a new release, ambidextrous sludge purveyors Samothrace were in Soundhouse Studios in their hometown of Seattle with producer Brandon Fitzsimmons (ex-Wormwood) to being the recording of their second LP.
Samothrace issued the following collective statement about the recording process: “Working on this album at Soundhouse Studios with Brandon Fitzsimmons is amazing. We were fortunate enough to use the Rolls Royce of analog tape machines. The sound of rolling thunder was an inspiration during the whole process. The songs are as soaring and turbulent as the last album, but a bit more mature. We can’t wait for its release and imminent touring to follow.”
The LP will tentatively bear two side-long tracks, “When We Emerged” and “A Horse Of Our Own.” The hymn “When We Emerged” originally appeared on the band’s 2007 demo in a much shorter and raw form, and has here been completely reworked and extended into a new song.
The album — its title still TBA — will be released by mid-2012 via 20 Buck Spin, who also released Samothrace's 2008 debut full-length, "Life’s Trade." More info on the new album will be available in the coming weeks. More...
