Brujeria Carves Up London

Much has been made of Brujeria over the years. Do they really believe their lyrics? Are they really Satanists? Are they really Mexican? The answers to all of these are irrelevant when you consider the main one; Are they any good? The answer is a resounding yes, especially in the live environment, where their cartel inspired brand of deathgrind gets shoved right in the ears of all in attendance, whether they wanted it or not. With ear sodomy in mind then, the band recently embarked on a headlining tour of Europe to promote their latest single, "Amaricon Czar," joined by friends Venomous Concept, Canadian thrash metal stalwarts Aggression and Californian veterans Sangre.

Opening the evening's proceedings was Pomona's own, Sangre. Having released their first album, "Carrion" in 2001, with a sophomore full length arriving ten years later, maybe the band are now gearing up to release a third in two years. The music itself is very heavy and very abrasive, something of a drooling rottweiler snapping at the faces of those polite enough to attend early enough to catch them. Their sound isn't for everyone and it's not in the running for any prizes for originality, but for those of you who like their metal a little groovy and supremely vicious, Sangre are well worth checking out. Just For Fun

Brujeria To Star In Animated Show

Brujeria, the self-styled Mexican cartel, deathgrind supergroup featuring members of Napalm Death, Carcass and Pentagram Chile, has been confirmed to be starring in their own late night cartoon show, "Brujeria... IN SPACE!" which will be airing on Cartoon Network's late night animated block, Adult Swim this July. The series is a collaboration between Metalocalypse creators Brendom Small & Tommy Blacha with Aqua Teen Hunger Force creators Dave Willis and Matt Maiellaro and was put forward as a project to continue and develop the style of their beloved shows.

The first series will feature ten episodes, each roughly ten minutes in length and will centre on the band running a store which sells medical Marijuana and accessories in El Paso, Texas, while getting into surreal adventures involving the supernatural, the law and their landlord, who will be voiced by professional wrestler, Stone Cold Steve Austin. As expected, there will be guest appearances from other metal musicians, carrying on the tradition of Metalocalypse, with Napalm Death frontman Barney Greenway, Lamb Of God guitarist Mark Morton and Melechesh leader, Ashmedi all confirmed, as well as Babymetal, who will appear in the anime themed episode, "Brujeria Super Fun Smoking Time," while rapper and death metal fan, Necro will have a regular role voicing the band's dog, Coño.

As of yet, no trailers have been posted online, though one is expected to premier on the Nuclear Blast YouTube channel by the end of the week. The band themselves will be promoting the show and their new album, "Pocho Aztlan" on an upcoming tour of Europe with Napalm Death, Lock Up and Power Trip, where guitarist Shane Embury will be pulling a triple shift.

Brujeria Unveils New Album

Extreme metal outfit Brujeria will release fourth full-length album "Pocho Aztlan" on September 16th via Nuclear Blast Entertainment. The release will be followed by a U.S. tour this October alongside Cattle Decapitation and Pinata Protest.

"Pocho Aztlan" is the band's first release since "Brujerizmo" dropped in 2000 via Roadrunner. It was recorded over the course of many years and at several studios around the globe. The end result was mixed by Russ Russell. Nuclear Blast commetns:

"The title translates to 'Wasted Promised Land,' a combination of Aztlán, the fabled ancestral home of the Aztecs, and the term pocho, which native Mexicans use to refer - not always kindly - to their counterparts born in the States.

"Brujo himself is pocho, a man caught between two worlds. Many pochos are not exactly accepted with open arms in Mexico. Meanwhile, they're too often regarded as second-class citizens in their adopted US home. Brujo has transcended both scenarios through the power of Brujeria's uncompromising grindcore and death metal. His all-Spanish lyrics are as vivid as they are effective: Bona fide tales from the frontlines of the drug war, the racial divide, and the battle for the border."

"A lot of Brujeria songs are true stories," Brujo says. "And if they haven't happened yet, they will happen." More...

Recently, the band released an exclusive 7" single for Record Store Day, which sold-out instantly in stores everywhere. Today Brujeria is offering that 7" release, which includes the songs "Viva Presidente Trump!" and "Pared De Muerte," for sale digitally.

"The song 'Viva Presidente Trump!' was on shelf for years with no idea for vocals," states vocalist Juan Brujo. "It was gonna be an 'Anti-Castro' part II song but nothing came out of it. It just needed proper motivation to go and attach itself to someone... and Trump came thru!

"I see Trump as the white Republican version of Juan Brujo circa '93. Wanting to start shit for the hell of it! That's why it's called 'Viva Presidente Trump!' We both want same thing! So much that I want to be his running mate!" More...

Brujeria Shine In An International Metal Gathering

On Friday the 14th (probably unlucky for some,) two of death metal's cult favourites, Cryptopsy and Brujeria, performed a co-headlining show at The Dome in Tufnell Park, North London, joined in their venture by Brazilian thrash trio Nervosa and Australian technical death metal outfit, Psycroptic. The Dome itself is a solid venue, especially for housing metal shows, comprising mostly of a large hall, with the usual club features of a cloakroom and smoking area. Unfortunately, because of renovations at the Tufnell Park underground station (which is literally across the street from The Dome,) the best option was to get off at Kentish Town and walk from there, which is only a ten minute straight walk. It's a venue well worth checking out if there's something on that fits your taste, and on this night, The Dome was catering to those of us with a taste for the extreme.

First up, at only half past six in the evening, was the all female thrash metal group, Nervosa, arguably one of the most exciting bands coming through at the moment. It was their first time visiting Great Britain and they were clearly keen to both showcase their talents and win over new fans, which they most certainly did on the night. Though the crowd was relatively sparse when they took to the stage, Nervosa played with a frenzied passion that encompassed both the anger that drives their creativity and the love of metal that taking them to new places. As more people entered the venue, they found themselves gravitating to the stage to see this exhilarating three piece, mostly performing music from their debut full length, "Victim of Yourself." The album itself is a great listen, and songs such as, "Death" and "Into Moshpit" sound even heavier in a live environment and it took no more than two songs for the whole crowd to be converted, with more being won over from start to finish. It was a great way for the band to introduce themselves in the UK before heading out on their headline run, which is a must see for those who like their thrash tinged with death metal. A fantastic way to start the show. More...
