Sumerian Records has re-signed Born of Osiris on the eve of the band’s, and label’s, celebratory "10 Years In The Black" tour. Born of Osiris’ Lee McKinney comments:
"It's an honor and a pleasure to announce that we will be extending our contract with Sumerian Records. To be honest, it didn't even need to be given second thought. We do business with family, and that's what Sumerian has been for coming up on a decade now.
"I remember being in high school and over-drafting my bank account on plane tickets to get Sumerian to come out to watch us play a small suburb of Chicago in a VFW hall. I waited until my 18th birthday to sign our record contract and nothing was the same after that.
"It was the best decision we've ever made. Everyone we know in this industry in one way or another is thanks to the family that we call Sumerian. They were the first to believe in us, and we had the honor of being one of their first few bands as well."
Label founder and President Ash Avildsen adds: "Born of Osiris has been a flagship Sumerian artist for almost ten years now. They're an integral part of the label's brand and have helped pioneer a sound that is still getting bigger by the day. Most importantly, we consider them family and have shared countless unforgettable days and nights together. We cut this deal on a napkin in Atlanta at 2:00 a.m. inside a very uncanny building. Here's to many more in the future." More...
Sumerian Records continues to celebrate its 10 year anniversary, announcing the “10 Years In The Black Tour” featuring label artists Asking Alexandria and Born Of Osiris.
I See Stars, After The Burial, Upon a Burning Body and Bad Omens round out the North American tour, which launches on October 25 at Seattle’s Showbox Sodo and wraps up in early December.
“I can’t remember the last time I was this excited for a tour,” Asking Alexandria guitarist Ben Bruce said. “Not only is this our first true North American headlining tour in two years, as well as our first real U.S. headliner with Denis [Stoff] as our vocalist, but this is also a tour celebrating the incredible 10 year journey of Sumerian Records. We couldn’t be more proud to headline such a pivotal tour package and to celebrate the music Sumerian has released. The tour will include our biggest production to date and the first trek out in support of our new album, The Black. This is going to be something incredibly special.”
“To see the celebration of a decade of Sumerian culminate with this tour is a true reflection of the communal spirit and vision that this label was built upon,” said Sumerian Records Founder Ash Avildsen. “Fans will get to see five headliners all go out together, which is very rare these days because of tour politics, egos, money and everything else that gets in the way of giving music lovers an unforgettable line-up. The fact that these five bands are sharing the stage together and still bringing an opening act to kick off the show makes this a truly special tour. I comment them all. Stay tuned for for lots of upcoming announcements about different activities for bands and fans to interact at at these shows that go beyond just watching them perform on stage. Mark my words: This will be the most progressive and interactive tour we have ever done. See you on the road.” More...

Sumerian Records marks its 10 year anniversary with a four week tour featuring five of the Los Angeles labels’ bands: Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya, After The Burial, Erra and Bad Omens.
“Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya and After The Burial have all played a crucial role in the new wave of progressive, heavy music and in the pedigree of Sumerian,” said label founder, Ash Avildsen.
Ash goes on to say, “They are some of the most genuine, hard-working and talented musicians I have had the privilege to work with. I vividly remember first seeing all three of them play together at a tiny legion hall in a small Illinois town when Sumerian was less than a year old and they were all unsigned. I can proudly say that without Born of Osiris, Veil of Maya and After The Burial together on the label, Sumerian would not have become the entity it is today. I am honored to have this Midwest menagerie carrying the 10 Year Tour and excited for our newcomers Erra and Bad Omens. Thank you to all of the fans who support the bands and the music. Without you, none of this would be possible. See you in the pit.” More...

Many religions, cultures, and stories attribute power to the number three. In Egyptian mythology, it symbolizes plurality, and triads of deities comprise a complete system. It’s no surprise that the god Osiris was born to one such triad alongside siblings Horus and Isis. It’s also not a coincidence that Chicago heavy metal quintet Born Of Osiris found a similar significance within that number on new full-length album, "Soul Sphere." In fact, over the course of 12 tracks, the record examines three tiers originally uncovered in a dream that Joe Buras [clean vocals, synthesizers, keyboards] shared.
“The whole story of the record involves three levels,” explains Joe. “The first one is The Binding. You’re hanging, and you’re stagnant. The second is The Fight. You were hanging, but now you’re pulling away from this linchpin, whether it’s physical, emotional, or spiritual. The final is The Release. You break away and feel free, connected, and loved.”
In order to properly explore the “tiers,” the group — Joe, Ronnie Canizaro [vocals], Cameron Losch [drums], David Da Rocha [bass], and Lee McKinney [guitar] — strengthened their bond exponentially. “Over the years, you get better at creating, writing, and recording in the studio,” says Ronnie. “You improve each time you make an album. Once we had the direction, it started gelling.”
Born Of Osiris preceded the album with the fiery chant of “Throw Me In The Jungle,” showcasing the band's anthemic side. The follow-up “Resilience” evinced another angle. Its gnashing polyrhythmic guitars collide with orchestral electronics and a forceful and fiery refrain, tapping into the band’s hallmarks while fortifying the attack.
“We wanted to use that title for so long,” Joe goes on. “Collectively, we’ve had so much resilience, going through different friendships and changes over the years but still maintaining our connection amongst us.”
Then there’s “Illuminate,” which tempers a wall of distortion with a big chorus. The third single “Goddess of the Dawn” snaps from a thick groove punctuated by pinch harmonics before an entrancing clean hook. More...
