It’s hardly necessary to point out why Gigantour, the recurring metal mini-festival on wheels led by Megadeth’s Dave Mustaine, is such an – ahem – gigantic draw. My last time seeing the band perform was for the tour’s third incarnation in April 2008, with support from In Flames, Children Of Bodom, Job For A Cowboy, and High On Fire. Round four boasts a package at once further streamlined and brawnier in industry clout, making this show a no-brainer for any heavy music fan within reasonable driving distance. The organisers of Britain's, Download Festival has confirmed a further twelve acts for this year's edition of the event. Among the new acts are American thrash metal legends Megadeth, former Guns N Roses guitarist, Slash and industrial metal veterans Fear Factory, as well as Steel Panther, Billy Talent, Kyuss Lives!, Rise Against, Black Label Society, As I Lay Dying, Five Finger Death Punch, Terrorvision, Ginger Wildheart, Periphery and Reckless Love. The festival will take place June 8th - 10th at Donington Park in the U.K.

The organisers of Belgium's largest heavy metal festival, Graspop Metal Meeting, has announced a further five bands for this year's edition of the event. American thrash metal legends Megadeth will be performing, as will stoner rock kings Kyuss Lives!, death metal pioneers Possessed, English alternative rock outfit Young Guns and, making their fourth appearance at the festival, Jon Olivia's Pain. Graspop will take place in the town of Dessel from June 22nd-24th and now features the following lineup:

Bassist David Ellefson of Megadeth fame has issued the following update about appearing on the "Time to Rock" album by Knight Fury:

Danish band Volbeat announced that Mercyful Fate guitarist Hank Shermann will stand in for recently departed guitarist Thomas Bredahl for the upcoming Gigantour with Megadeth in the U.S. commencing in January 2012.
Frontman Michael Poulsen had the following comments on recruiting Hank Shermann: "It’s a true honor getting to work with Hank, whose guitar work has inspired all three band members long before Volbeat was formed. I’m very thankful that Hank has the time to join us on Gigantour in his busy schedule."

Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine joined Metallica on stage on Saturday, December 10, 2011 to perform three classic songs, one of which was "Metal Militia." Fan footage of the performance can be seen below. The performance was part of the week long Metallica 30th Anniversary event in San Francisco, which has seen a multitude of guest performances including Biff Byford (Saxon), Lou Reed, John Bush (Armored Saint), members of Mercyful Fate (including King Diamond) and Dave Mustaine.

Argentina based thrash act Cavador has issued the following announcement about participating in a thrash metal tribute compilation:

Megadeth mainman Dave Mustaine will be one of the guests on the next episode of That Metal Show, airing Saturday December 3rd at 11 PM EST on VH1 Classic. In this preview clip, he talks about participating in a mutual admiration society with Ronnie James Dio while their two bands were on tour together.
