CONVERGE, SATYRICON and... DARKTHRONE...? Those are the unlikely alternate Grammy nominees suggested to MSNBC recently by "Sound of the Beast" author Ian Christe. "Then again," Christe told the Microsoft-backed news network, "DARKTHRONE already refused their nomination for the Norwegian version of the awards. These back-slapping events are viewed by most metalheads with a lot of skepticism."
Christe also told MSNBC this year's real Grammy nominees for Metal Performance (CRADLE OF FILTH, MOTÖRHEAD, HATEBREED, KILSWITCH ENGAGE, and SLIPKNOT) are "a shock... they actually represent what metal kids are into - instead of the usual out-of-date record company executive's misunderstanding of heavy metal... All five bands nominated began on indie-specialty labels, then worked their way to the mainstream over years. Normally, I'd hope in vain that MOTÖRHEAD would win, just as an excuse to see Lemmy wearing a tuxedo. But it would really be a boon to heavy metal for any of the younger bands to take the prize."
The Grammys will be handed out Feb. 13. The Metal Performance award will NOT be televised.
Throwdown have now begun recording their upcoming new album "Vendetta" with producer Zeuss (Shadows Fall, Hatebreed) at the helm. The effort is expected out in July via Trustkill.
ICEPICK, HATEBREED frontman Jamey Jasta's much-anticipated collaboration with SKARHEAD singer Lord Ezec, will make their live debut on February 27 at CBGBs in New York City. Fans who attend the gig should expect to hear four or five original songs as well as several HATEBREED and SKARHEAD covers.
The concert, a benefit for Pete Koller from SICK OF IT ALL, will also feature H20, MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD, KILL YOUR IDOLS, ENSIGN, INHUMAN and THE FEARLESS VAMPIRE KILLERS (featuring ex-CRO-MAGS frontman John Joseph and SICK OF IT ALL bassist Craig Setari).
ICEPICK's track "Born to Crush You" was featured on the "UFC Ultimate Beatdowns Vol. 1 Metal" compilation, released last August through Nitrus Records.

Napalm Death’s upcoming album “The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code” will hit European shops April 25th.
I had the opportunity to attend the Stillborn Fest 2005 in Philadelphia, Pa at the Electric Factory on December 26th. I must say for being as pissed off as I was that I couldn't move anywhere without a pit of hardcore dancers starting right next to me, that it was still a good concert. All of the few bands I had the chance to see were really good live and they were enjoyable. This is how the night shaped up: More...

God Forbid just wrapped up a highly successful European tour alongside Machine Head and Caliban and Doc Coyle (guitars, vocals) checks in with the following report:
We finally arrived home from our mammoth 10 week European tour with Machine Head and Caliban. This was our first time to most of these places and this tour took us from as far north as Finland, down to Portugal, an entire UK tour, and even as far east as Serbia, Croatia, and Bulgaria. It was exhausting yet exhilarating because of the massive, insane crowds we got to rock in front of every night! With the exception of Ozzfest, this was the biggest tour we've ever done. From the bottom of our hearts we want to thank Rob, Phil, Dave and Adam from MH for taking us out. Much respect to Caliban and both crews for a successful tour.
Since we left in early October a tyrant has been re-elected and a great legend has fallen. Sad times indeed. We were in Serbia when we heard the news of Dimebag Darrell's death. Being longtime Pantera fans, and having the opportunity to meet the man on several occasions, it has been a very emotional time for everyone in God Forbid. It's been emotional for the entire heavy music and hard rock scenes in general. Pantera was the first concert my brother and I ever went to, the first band T shirt I bought and part of the reason I play music. You don't want to believe it is real. All of us are hit really hard because it's the exact opposite of the way our scene is. The metal and hardcore scene is really close-knit and like a family. The bands are close with the fans and I know Pantera was always close with their fans and treated them like friends not just fans. You would never expect anything like this to happen in our scene. God Forbid sends our deepest sympathy to the Abbott family and anyone close to this great man. A lot of love for Dimebag! "We're sharing riffs man!"More...
The Boston-based quintet Diecast are set to embark on a headlining U.S. tour alongside The Hoods and Winter Solstice immediately following their stint on the Heavyweights of Hardcore tour. The trek kicks off on Jan. 20th and runs through Feb. 10th. The group's highly acclaimed new album, "Tearing Down Your Blue Skies," is now available. A new video for the track "Rise and Oppose" will be shot by Kevin Leonard (Himsa, Walls of Jericho) on Jan. 19th and look for it to makes it debut in late Feb.
Diecast just wrapped up a highly successful run on the Radiotakeover.com tour alongside E-Town Concrete, Devilinside and Twelve Tribes. Jeremy Wooden (bass) checks in with the follow tour wrap-up:
We just got back from the Radiotakeover tour with E-town Concrete, Twelve Tribes and almost Devilinside. It was amazing and we had a blast with all the bands. It started off slow with smaller shows, but all the kids who went out made us all feel like we were playing in front of thousands of fans. A lot of kids came up to us after the set saying that they were a bit skeptical about our singer change and new material (mostly due to internet gossip) but after seeing us live said we were way better than we've ever been. Stand out shows on the tour were definitely, New Jersey, Massachusetts, New York (Albany and NYC) and Pennsylvania (Allentown and Philly).
Thanks to the promoters (minus 2 or 3) who treated us very well, fed us, drank with us, etc. We'd also like to thank everyone who came out to interview us on the road. Except for the two shit-bags who decided to piss all over the sofa and our singers bag (your lucky I'm a pacifist now), you were all great to us. We also got a Monster energy drink sponsorship on the road, so that kept us nice and perky for the long drives.
Well, we are home to spend time with family and enjoy the holidays and then it's back on the road in January with legends Hatebreed and Agnostic Front. I've also been informed that Tony and Mike from Devilinside will be getting something new together so be on the lookout, those guys are amazing musicians and great guys. Have a great holiday and we'll see you on the road soon.

On October 19th Stillborn Records recording artist Full Blown Chaos released “Waking The Demons”, and now take their legendary brutal live performances to the road on the “2004: The Heavyweights Of Hardcore Tour,” featuring Hatebreed, Terror, Full Blown Chaos & No Warning plus Sick Of It All, reports press release.
Songs of inner-strength backed with riffage that hug hairpin turns and a dynamite-triggering rhythm section. Full Blown Chaos is a roaring sonic blitzkrieg with more to offer than the tired tough guy mentality!
2004 finds the quartet dishing out their blend of bone cracking hardcore with puncturing metal on their first full-length album titled "Wake The Demons." The experience is a bona fide thrill ride of chest pounding yet gripping sing-along screams from front man and lyricist Ray Mazzola along with the persuasive guitar megalomania of Mike Facci coupled with grenade popping drums of brother Jeff Facci; and finally, the crushingly infernal mix on "Wake The Demons" is crowned by the determined and vivacious bass performance of Ed Conroy.
