Hatebreed’s Jamey Jasta Premieres New Track

Hatebreed/Jasta frontman Jamey Jasta premieres a new ‘The Howard Stern Show’ themed song titled "Hit Em With The Hein". Explains Jasta:

"We have released a special song called “Hit Em With The Hein.” The short track is a tribute to a special saying from the Howard Stern Show that refers to one of the show’s many personalities, Jon Hein. Hein is a contributor to the show, as well as the host of the Howard Stern SiriusXM channel’s ‘Wrap Up Show.’ He is also known for creating the website and coining the phrase “jump the shark” to refer to the moment when a television show begins to go “downhill” in quality. Jamey Jasta is a big fan of the show and decided to metal things up with the saying that is now becoming quite commonplace."

Sunday Old School: Hatebreed

The relationship between metal and hardcore is a funny one. Both the rivalry and the influences stem back to punk rock, which was initially something anti-heavy metal, before the likes of Motorhead showed both fan bases that common ground could be reached. To this day, both camps have fans that can't stand the other, as well as those who enjoy both genres. The two styles would combine a number of times to form such sub-genres as thrash metal, crossover and metalcore, the last of which was not always the easiest to define, but if ever one band could be described perfectly by the metalcore tag, it's today's featured group, Hatebreed.

Hatebreed began life in 1994 in New Haven, Connecticut, though some members hailed from Bridgeport, consisting of vocalist Jamey Jasta, guitarists Larry Dwyer, Jr. & Wayne Lozinak, bass player Chris Beattie and drummer Dave Russo. The quintet recorded three songs for a demo tape, which was handed out to members of the local hardcore scene before being included in a split release with Neglect. They followed this with an EP, "Under the Knife" in 1996 which included the three songs once more, as well as four other songs, all of which except the title track would later be re-recorded. New Bands Added To Brutal Assault 2017

A bunch of new bands have been announced for the 22nd edition of Brutal Assault, which takes place this year in Fortress Josefov near Jaromer in the Czech Republic on August 9-12. Returning once more are heavy-weights Hatebreed, who last graced the fortress stages in 2012 and 2013. This is reportedly in response to festival-goers requests for more hardcore in the line-up.

The Dillinger Escape Plan will be including the festival in their series of farewell dates. It looks like the band's appearance here won't be affected by the bus crash that caused some European tour dates to be cancelled last month. Dillinger last played Brutal Assault in 2015.

Thrash veterans Overkill, touring in support of their recently released 18th studio album, "The Grinding Wheel", have also been added. No stranger to the fortress stage, Overkill last appeared at the festival in 2013.

Helsinki's Wintersun are newcomers to Brutal Assault, appearing for the first time. Can we assume they will be playing material from their long-awaited third album? There's no official word as yet. More...

Warped Tour Lineup Reportedly Leaked

This year's Warped Tour is set to take place from mid-June through early August, but until today the lineup was a big question mark.

KillTheMusic.net is reporting that part of the lineup has leaked, and will include GWAR (which makes sense, as the band canceled this year's GWAR-B-Q with the statement that "GWAR is about to take on the craziest year of touring").

It's important to note that the source of the leak was not identified, so this may be pure speculation. KillTheMusic issued this statement:

According to our sources, we learned the following facts about this year’s Warped Tour:

Bad Religion, Lagwagon, CKY, Black Veil Brides, Beartooth, Hatebreed, and GWAR are a few of the many bands playing the year.

5 bands from Fat Wreck Chords and 5 from Epitaph.

25 bands cut from the usual lineup to ensure this year is quality.

Assuming this leak doesn't change any plans, the full lineup is due to be announced on March 22nd, 2017 with the planned tour routing available below. More...

Just For Fun

Richard Spencer Punched In The Face To Hatebreed

In case anyone missed it in the social media barrage, Richard Spencer (president of the white supremacist group National Policy Institute) managed to get himself clocked pretty good on live television yesterday.

You might recall seeing Spencer's name in the news lately due to a dust up with the citizens of Whitefish in my home state of Montana, in which he planned an armed white supremacist march protesting Jewish members of the community.

After heavy media scrutiny and a grassroots awareness campaign, he was out-protested by a bunch of more heavily armed Montanans who don't put up with that sort of shit.

Back to the video of Spencer taking a fist to the face: a true Twitter hero named Zayn synced a portion of the footage up with Hatebreed's "Everyone Bleeds Now." Bravo sir!

Texas Revolution Fest Hosts Modern Metal Bill

October 22, 2016-Texas Revolution Festival held in Austin is a festival run by promoters Come And Take It Productions.

I’ve covered a lot of Come And Take It shows for Metalunderground.com, including the spring version of the festival, Texas Independence Fest in 2015. That festival featured such bands as Between The Buried And Me, Vital Remains, White Chapel, COC, Death Angel and Cavalera Conspiracy. Tonight billed such artists as Hatebreed, Devildriver, Soilwork and Crowbar.

The Independence Festival was a three-day outing, while Texas Revolution was only one day. Both festivals were held at the same venue—Empire Control Room & Garage. The Control Room stage was an smaller, inside stage that held many of the lesser-known and local acts. Ringworm headlined that stage. The Garage is an outside stage that housed the headliners. Chicago Open Air Day One

I've never been to an open air music festival. Mostly since most music fests have only one or two artists who I like and try to jam as many different styles of music into one festival as possible to the point where they have no target audience anymore. Lollapalooza is perhaps the biggest offender in that regard to he point where it appeals to both everyone and nobody simultaneously. But thankfully Chicago finally got a metal festival of its own to compensate for a lot of the directionless festivals that the city is known for that have kept me at bay for so long.

Milwaukee Metalfest closed up around a decade ago so Chicago getting a heavy metal festival was (literally) music to my ears. The Rust Belt had nothing in the way of metal festivals and the only other big metal fests have been Rocklahoma, Maryland Deathfest, New England Metal and Hardcore Fest and 70,000 Tons of Metal. As somebody who doesn't live within driving distance from Oklahoma, Maryland, Massachusetts or Florida, I was incredibly excited for something to hit the Midwest as it was long overdue.

But the part that got me most excited was the potential for the future. Specifically a future where artists who only do festivals and mini-tours can finally hit a big outdoor stage and do so in my hometown. Think Anaal Nathrakh, Samael, Ihsahn, Pig Destroyer and Zardonic being able to not only play a real festival show in the Midwest but also be introduced to a whole new audience who would be coming for the far more mainstream headliner. At the very least, the fest could use some less obscure second stage openers and some more foreign bands who haven't come to America for years like Primordial, Vreid or Orphaned Land. But for a brand new festival, the lineup wasn't bad by any means, particularly when it came to headliners. It's a possible future outlet for all the cool stuff that I would never otherwise get to see in coming years which is what got me psyched more than anything else.

I waited in the mother of all lines upon arriving on Friday for a full 90 minutes. Everyone wanted to be in early to catch the opening band on the opening day of the inaugural festival. And the person in front of me was the evil doppelganger of a friend of mine from college. Same body. Same haircut. Same facial features. Same teeth. It was just completely uncanny, especially since one of them lives in west Iowa and the other in east Nebraska. More...

Signs Of Chaos To Support Hatebreed

Making ripples on the local scene with an assaulting and aggressive sound featured on latest EP "Watch It Burn," Ottawa's Signs Of Chaos has been selected as local opening support (along with Accursed Spawn) for Hatebreed's tour stop on July 13th at Mavericks.

The band has previously been local Ottawa support for Alestorm, Eluveitie, Insomnium, Firewind, Dark Tranquility, Beyond Creation, Exciter, Death Angel to name a few.

Signs Of Chaos unleashed the brutally hard hitting "Watch It Burn" this past April to to follow 2012’s debut album "Rise" and an untitled demo from 2009. The band features the riffage of Matt MacIvor and Dave McCann along with the ear stabbing vocals of Nick Bedard, followed by the blasting drums of Stephane Desilets and the trademark tombstone slab of bass playing by Tom Hansen.
