Blackened Prepares Debut Album

Blackened, the new Connecticut-based hardcore/metal band featuring current and former members of Hatebreed (bassist Chris Beattie and original drummer and founding member Dave Russo) as well as current Connecticut contenders and alum alike, including vocalist Jay Reason (The Distance) and guitarist Chris Legg (Fastbreak), has posted a demo version of the song "Let Them Drink Venom" on its MySpace page.

For their forthcoming debut, appropriately titled "This Means War," the band has joined up with Think Fast! Records, a label not only responsible for introducing bands like Have Heart and Outbreak, but also spanning a back catalog containing veterans like Sick Of It All and Ignite. Think Fast! Records co-owner Ryan O'Connor comments: "When we received the Blackened demo tracks, we immediately knew that these guys were onto something special. The amazing line-up aside, these songs are crafted in a different vein than all of their past bands, which was the most impressive point of all. We're very excited to bring the first taste of Blackened to the world."

"This Means War" is scheduled for release on January 20, 2009.

Report

Monsters of Rock

Nearly 20,000 hard rock and metal fans braved the heat on Saturday to show their support for the one-off, one-day Monsters of Rock in Calgary, AB. While the line to get into McMahon Stadium stretched over a football field in length as ticket holders went through to the necessary ticket scans and bag checks, Zimmers Hole grabbed the stage by the bull horns and audibly spurred concert goers as they trickled in. Zimmers Hole, fronted by Chris Valagao (who later signed autographs wearing nothing but red body paint and a butt flap), gave a short, but high energy sampling of funny, thrashy goodness. And it was super cool of Ozzy to have a Canadian band kick start the festivities. More...

Metal Stars Confirmed For Dimebag Tribute

The Ozzfest live tribute to fallen Pantera/ Damageplan guitarist "Dimebag" Darrell Abbott has began to take a clearer shape with many big name members of the metal community confirmed. The musicians will perform a set of Pantera classics after the set of Hellyeah at Ozzfest. Among the confirmed artists are:

Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damageplan, Hellyeah)
Kerry King (Slayer)
Scott Ian (Anthrax)
Charlie Benante (Anthrax)
Mike Inez (Alice In Chains)
Jerry Cantrell (Alice In Chains)
King Diamond (Mercyful Fate, Solo artist)
Kirk Hammett (Metallica)
Chad Gray (Mudvayne, Hellyeah)
Jamey Jasta (Hatebreed, Icepick, Kingdom Of Sorrow)
Bob Zilla (Damageplan, Hellyeah)

Dimebag's former girlfriend Rita Haney has said about the tribute: “To have this event on the Mainstage at OZZFest in Dallas is such a treat and an honor!” says Rita Haney. “When this tragedy originally happened, I saw the music community come together like I've never seen before. To have the name ‘Dimebag’ still, to this day, unite musicians to pay homage in such a respectful way, is very overwhelming! In Dime's vision, it's always been about a damn good time!"

“When we decided on Dallas as the site for this year’s OZZFest, it seemed like the perfect opportunity to pay tribute to ‘Dimebag’ Darrell since it was his hometown,” said Sharon Osbourne. “’Dimebag’ was a part of our OZZFest family and everyone in the metal community misses him dearly.”
