Guitarist Christofer Johnsson reports that "pre-production of the new album is going well" and offered the following information about his time in the studio:
"Work = all the time; Sleep = never. THERION never give out any info like titles of songs on future releases before it's 100% finished. None [of the tracks] in particular feel difficult and they're all extremely enjoyable. The one with the working title 'Egypt' is one of the mosst enjoyable ones, but of course you won't know what song that is [until] the album finally goes public. A new electronic device I've picked up recently: a D.W. Fearn microphone amplifier." When asked about obtaining the Limited Edition George Lucas Stormtrooper action figure, Johnsson responded, "I think I can survive without that one."
In other news, the first CONFIRMED dates for THERION's World Tour for 2007 (with Grave Digger and Benedictum) have been announced and include: More...
THERION founder Christofer Johnsson has posted the following update at the band's official website, confirming his previously announced plans to have Therion back on the road in early 2007:
"Therion will go on tour again starting in end of January 2007.
I don't like when local promoters are announcing Therion shows before they are official. Before a contract has been signed, it is not to be considered an officially booked show. When the contracts are signed, you will see the date on this website.
I cannot post dates here that are uncertain because I have to take responsability for what I post. If the schedule change a million times, no one will trust in it in the end. Plus we will have hundreds of questions why we c'ancel' shows that have never been 100% booked in the first place.
So, if you hear about a Therion show somewhere else than on this page, it means something is (probably) going on there, but before you see dates on this page, nothing legal is signed."
On Wednesday, September 14th I went to BBkings in New York City, NY to see Therion and Beyond the Embrace. As I walked into the venue as doors opened, I saw about six people standing around waiting for the concert to start. I met up with a friend and chilled until it started. What was scary was how we were the only people there until about 15 minutes before Beyond the Embrace took the stage. About 30 people showed up in those 15 minutes. I was scared that Therion drastically undersold the show. I was very wrong. By the time Beyond the Embrace finished the venue was packed. I didn’t even notice how many people were pouring in, since I was front row out of the three rows of people there. By the time Therion was playing I couldn’t move. Before Beyond the Embrace took the stage, I thought I saw Brian Fair from Shadows Fall hanging out at the bar, but wasn’t sure, so I went up to him and said, “Hey, what’s up”. Turns out it was him and he was cool. We had a short conversation because the concert started and it would be nearly impossible to hear each other. More...
The following announcement has been posted at the official THERION website with regards to frontman Christoffer Johnsson's parting ways with DEMONOID, the death metal act also featuring Therion members Kristian Niemann (guitars) and Johan Niemann (bass):
"As a result of too little time, and as previously announced, also wanting to stop singing, Chris has withdrawn from Demonoid and the band have already found a replacement vocalist.
Chris wish them all the best and has offered the band his assistance in negotiating the band a new long term record deal.
There was always different opinions in what direction the band should go in terms of activity. Chris didn't want to play live, while the other guys didn't mind touring if there was time for it in between the Therion projects.
So, this means you will not only see a new Demonoid album (when they have time to record it), you will also most likely be able to see them live on stage some time in the future as well."
Christofer Johnsson, founder, songwriter, guitarist, and vocalist for the symphonic Swedish group THERION, has announced today via the band's official web site that he will be retiring from vocal duties. The following is an excerpt from his post:
"As was announced at the Metal Mania festivals, I am going to retire from vocals. The reasons for this are two: One is that I feel it's not fun to sing anymore (even though I have enjoyed playing the old songs on guitar). [My] voice is getting weaker over the years and I experienced problems at the end of the U.S./Canada tour. The problem isn't only getting older, but rather that we basically never rehearse as a band and therefore, I don't keep my throat 'warm.' It simply doesn't work to not sing for half a year and then go on tour for two months and shout every evening. It used to work when I was younger, but now I feel it's not comfortable anymore and when it doesn't feel right, it's definitely time to stop.
"The second reason is that we would like to stop playing old songs, anyway. By old I mean 'Lepaca Klifffoth' and older. We are now working on our 13th studio album and it is getting harder and harder to choose which songs to play live. The number of 'classics' — songs that we more or less must play — is growing all the time and we don't want to end up like one of those bands where you know beforehand 95% for sure what songs that are going to be played. We want to be able to have space to play a couple of unexpected songs each new tour. We, of course, realize that many fans will miss those old brutal songs, but we are convinced that those fans also will prefer to hear something new each time from the Theli album and onwards.
"The ProgPower festival in England will be the final show where I do vocals on stage. This will be our 106th and final show supporting 'Lemuria'/'Sirius B'. We will not be on stage again until 2007. I have planned a special surprise for this festival (not even the other band members know it), so don't miss this festival if you live in the U.K.!"

Artwork for "Celebrators Of Becoming" is available at this location (check under 2006 releases, then scroll down to June 13).
Sweden's THERION will be issuing a six-disc DVD/CD set, entitled "Celebrators of Becoming", on May 5. The package will include four DVDs and two audio discs. It will be available in two versions, one luxury digipak version in a slip case and one cheaper version, but both will contain all discs. The idea is that both should have a very reasonable price and be affordable for all fans. An overview of the set's contents is as follows: More...
THERION founder/frontman Christofer Johnsson has posted the following notice to the fans at the band's official website:
"The Therion page at MySpace is NOT in any way connected to the band members and the blog there is NOT written by anybody in the band. We have been aware of that someone had this page for a while, but as it didn't cause any huge problems, it has mainly been annoyed fans concerned about the task to reveal that this site has nothing to do with the band. However, as posts pointing the page being fake has been deleted by the person behind it, there has been notifications of abuse sent to MySpace. Discovering that there is now also a blog, where the person behind this site speak in the name of the band, Therion have now contacted My Space too, in order to resolve the issue."
