Sylosis Unveils New Album Artwork

Sylosis today has revealed the artwork for "Dormant Heart," which was created by Bristol based artist Bonfire.

On the theme of the artwork, the band comments: "The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will."

Pre-orders for the new album are now live at this location. Sylosis also had this to say about the impending release:

“It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date. The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd, how a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness.”

"Dormant Heart" is set to be released January 16th, 2015 via Nuclear Blast. A play through video for the new song "Mercy" can also be found at this location. More...

Sylosis Posts Guitar Playthrough Video

Sylosis recently dropped a music video for "Mercy" (available here), taken off the upcoming "Dormant Heart" album.

The band has recorded a guitar tutorial for the track, which can be seen below.

Commenting on the track front man Josh states: "Mercy is the first single off the new album. It's got a pretty dark and heavy vibe to it but it's one of the most melodic tracks on the album at the same time. It's got a big slow, doomy outro with an octave pedal on the guitars so that's going to rumble some guts live. For this video, we wanted to keep it dark and claustrophobic. It's got some of the artwork from the album and inlay illustrated as well which came together really well."

Sylosis Premieres "Mercy" Music Video

U.K.'s Sylosis recently announced "Dormant Heart" as the title of the fourth studio album, but despite the name, it’s not a peaceful album: It’s about a powerful force unleashing anger against everyday injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them. Today, the band dropped the new single and music video for the track "Mercy," which can be seen in the player below.

Commenting on the track, frontman Josh states: "Mercy is the first single off the new album. It's got a pretty dark and heavy vibe to it but it's one of the most melodic tracks on the album at the same time. It's got a big slow, doomy outro with an octave pedal on the guitars so that's going to rumble some guts live.

"For this video, we wanted to keep it dark and claustrophobic. It's got some of the artwork from the album and inlay illustrated as well which came together really well."

The band have also revealed the artwork for Dormant Heart, which can be seen below. The artwork was created by Bristol based artist Bonfire (Opeth, Satyricon, Kataonia), who has previously designed some t-shirts for the band. On the theme of the artwork, Josh comments: "The cover relates to sacrifice (the sacrificial lamb is more of a symbol than something to be taken literally) but also the looming, oppressing figure in the background represents corruption and being forced into something against your will."

The album was produced by Middleton with the help of engineer Scott Atkins and was mastered by TesseracT guitarist Acle Kahney.

Sylosis began tracking the new album back in March 2014, working away secretly alongside touring commitments. Drum tracks were recorded in May at Monkey Puzzle Studios by original drummer Rob Callard, who parted ways with the band last month due to time restraints. After filling in for some live shows during Sylosis’ Spring 2014 tour, Bleed From Within’s drummer Ali Richardson is now a permanent member of the band.

Sylosis To Release New Album

Sylosis will be releasing new album "Dormant Heart" at the beginning of next year, with front man Josh Middleton commenting the record is Sylosis' strongest work to date. He states:

“It's the most pissed-off, aggressive and intense album we've done, yet it still retains the epic, progressive and melodic side we're also known for. It's a very gloomy and atmospheric album. We've been through a lot as a band and individuals and we've made our darkest album to date.”

The band began tracking the album back in March 2014 working away secretly alongside touring commitments. Josh Middleton took a step up on this album producing it himself with the help of engineer Scott Atkins. The album was mastered by Tesseract guitarist Acle Kahney.

Josh says of the recording process: “It was great doing some of the recording with Scott again. We've got a good working relationship and he's really dedicated to what he does. We like to strive for a very earthy and organic sound. It adds to the human element and brings out the intensity and vibe in the music.”

Guitars and vocals were recorded at Wizard Sound Studios in the band’s hometown of Reading. Drums were recorded in May at Monkey Puzzle Studios by original drummer Rob Callard, who parted ways with Sylosis in September due to time restraints. Bleed From Within's Ali Richardson is now drumming for the band permanently after filling in for some live shows on the bands spring 2014 tour.

Despite the title, "Dormant Heart," is not a peaceful album, it’s a powerful force, unleashing anger against every day injustice and a sleeping society that lets these things wash over them. Frontman Josh Middleton explains: “The title refers to people going through life on autopilot and being one of the herd. How a lot of people simply accept the way things are just because it's 'tradition' as opposed to taking a good look at the world around you and thinking for yourself. Sometimes there are catalysts that happen and change our perspective or consciousness…” More...

Sylosis Seeking Fan Support After Accident

After being in a car accident while on tour, Sylosis has now posted the following message online about seeking fan support for the costs of the damage:

"Hey guys. Josh here again and again wanting to thank everyone for their support these past few days. It's been overwhelming.

"We're really feeling it pretty hard today and are looking like a bunch of slow, old men when we walk. Aside from the physical issues that prevent us from continuing on with the tour it has also put us in thousands of pounds worth of debt due to losing the deposit (and now paying extra) on the RV, damaged trailer, booking new flights home, equipment damage and we're now incurring all kinds of transport/accommodation costs as we make our journey home.

"The last thing we want is for people to think we're now cashing in on the accident and taking advantage of people's sympathy, but we need some help right now so we've just released two exclusive tshirts where all the profits will go towards clearing our debts. Both of the shirts are available as a pre-order.

"One is the tour tshirt (now with the majority of the dates cancelled) and the other is a brand new design we were waiting to release when we launch all our new designs in the a few months time. We like the idea of you guys helping us and actually getting something for your money but we will also accept paypal donations of any kind to: sylosis@hotmail.com.

"I can't stress enough that we do not intend to exploit the situation. Thanks to all of you guys and the entire metal community right now for showing us so much support these past few days." More...

Sylosis Issues Statement On Accident

Yesterday, Dez Fafara of Devildriver announced that tourmates Sylosis had been in a vehicle crash and would be dropping off the tour. Now Sylosis vocalist Josh Middleton has issued the following statement about the incident:

"Hey everyone, Josh here. Myself, Rob and Bailey have just been released after over ten hours in hospital. Carl is being kept in overnight as he's in too much pain to walk but should hopefully be released tomorrow morning (Montreal time) once some of his muscle pain/swelling has subsided.

"All four of us and our driver were hospitalized but seeing as Bailey was the only one who didn't get taken in on a stretcher and a neck brace he wasn't treated as urgently. He's just had his back sewn up and is off to the scrap yard where the RV was taken to get people's clothes and some personal items - hero.

"We're all very lucky. We've mostly just been stitched up (my eyebrow, a few on Carl's legs and Bailey's back), badly bruised and what feels like full body whiplash. In car accident terms we're alright but in general terms we're not physically capable of continuing on with the tour and aim to get back to our families and friends ASAP to recover.

"We want to thank the paramedics, the passers by who came to our help, the staff at the hospital and all of the fans and bands that have wished us well. It means the world to us."
