Below is our complete Metsatoll news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
On May 15th, Metsatöll will release new EP "Pummelung." Besides two unpublished tracks, the EP includes the cover of J.M.K.E’s "Külmale Maale" ("To the Cold Land"). Today the EP’s title song has come online and can be heard below.
"Pummelung" is a self-ironic track about overboiling debaucheries with copious amounts of alcohol. The band comments: “Let’s take life as it is, without any enhancements, without putting our heads under pillows, with backs up straight. Just as the track lyrics say - the twilight will reveal which one of us is a true Estonian!”
"Pummelung" was produced by Metsatöll and Samuel Ruotsalainen, recorded by Keijo Koppel and Metsatöll at the Roundsound Studios in Tallinn during September and October of 2013. The sound was mixed in October of 2013 by Keijo Koppel and Marko Atso, who were also responsible for the mastering that was done at the Roundsound Studios in March 2015.
The EP will be released in cooperation with Spinefarm Records, an affiliate of Universal Music. Pre-orders are available at this location and the track listing is a sofllows:
2. Vana Jutuvestja Laul
3. Külmale Maale - J.M.K.E. cover More...
Each Tuesday we check in with metal musicians from across the world to get their best Pit Stories from live shows.
Today Estonian folk metal band Metsatoll shares a tale (which the band swears is true) involving Siamese hair-twins, flavored lube, and backstage jujitsu. Metsatoll's Kuriraivo tells the story this way:
Once upon a time on one Metsatöll gig the were two longhaired moshers n the
front of the stage. The crowd was bizarre, men with drinking horns, women with horny drinks, drinks with horned men. Mad! And those two moshers, one small and thin as Mexican money, the other big, long and strong as (censored).
Anyway, they got somehow stuck within each others hair and they kept on moshing during all our songs. The tiny-one seemed to flew through the air as the big-one moshed his feet up from the ground. Yes, there was unnatural power in the mosh of the censored-one. After the show, we were all very excited, as we all saw the "mosh of the pseudo-Siamese twins," we called the pair to the backstage after that and offered our help to let them loose from each other. As we have on the tour different kind of lubrication-crèmes: you know, with the strawberry, pepper
and iron taste. For every occasion. So, we tried to use this stuff on mosher hair. Nothing.
Then we had an idea to use our stage-manager Janno, hes been doing judo for
at least three lifetimes, so he tried some of his famous ju-jitsu. The Mexican-money-man did loose some of his hair from the top of his head, but luckily the hair in the back did stay still long, so its still metal! And the bigger guy turned out to be a bearded woman with only one foot and a
golden ring inside her nose, just escaped from her home and a man, who’s cheating her with an Alice Cooper male fan. Mosh and go! What a night! The unbelievable part of it is that it’s a true

The trolls of Nordic folklore are believed to be dirty creatures of enormous strength and appetite. Their grotesque physique grants them a comic element, although the humor tends to be on the grim side as these nocturne beings hunger for human flesh. Unsurprisingly, this has earned them a rather bad reputation.
All things considered, Finntroll are the perfect embodiment of all aforementioned sentiments - although one might want to replace the hunger for human meat with an unquenchable thirst for booze. Catch the trolls on tour in November/December with Blackguard & Metsatoll:

And then it was Saturday! Day two of Tuska again started a bit earlier then the hungover and tired festival goers may have wished but the drowsy vibes quickly vanished (though not the rain clouds) as the day started on a much folkier note. Tuska Day Two promised another heavy day of good music, good people and the summer vibe that has Finns and Non Finn's coming from all over to partake in the festivities.
First up today was Estonian folk metallers Metsätöll! I have been excited to see these guys for years now and it was with bated breath that I entered the photo pit this morning! And here I will be a bit blasphemous and state that Lauri (Varulven) Õunapuu is quite simply a god of folk instruments. Throughout the set he seamlessly switched from bagpipes, to flutes, and numerous stringed Estonian folk instruments. Each one was expertly played and gave the performance a mysterious lovely quality. The Estonian language is quite obviously similar to Finnish, and in fact singer Markus "Rabapagan" Teeäär wows the predominantly Finnish crowd (and presumably wins their hearts) by speaking to them in Finnish. It needs to be said: his accent is much better than mine. Metsätöll is one of those folk metal bands that clearly love what they do, and though the music is fun and foly as ever, there is a lovely mysterious undertone that lends one’s mind to thinking thoughts of dark forests and legends of old. Estonian folk metallers Metsatoll have issued the following statement about the sales of their fourth album:
"Äio has sold over 13,000 copies in three months. The album, sung in Estonian, is available in the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany, France, the Netherlands and other bigger markets, and up until today, already 7,000 copies have been sold in foreign markets. Local fans in Estonia have bought 6,000 regular or limited versions of 'Äio.' Also included in the results are the digital sales of both the full album as well as separate tracks. 'Äio' was released by the world's leading music company Universal Music's sister label, the metal-oriented Spinefarm Records."
Metsatöll's vocalist Markus Teeäär also added: "We are positively surprised at the sales figures, and also more convinced than before that Estonian audiences care about us as much as we care about them. The results from abroad, though, came as a true bombshell. It has to be said that were it not for the undaunted and hard work of Universal, we would not be seeing these figures now." More...

Similar to the way Oort and Metsatöll fit together, the listeners of both bands have a common understanding of the worlds affairs. Knowing the good synergy we have had at our mutual shows, I believe that those who come to listen and see us will leave the show with a very good feeling."
"Since we have been doing the same thing since the beginning of times and shared stages with the same line-up, we are always glad to participate in something good," adds Sulev Salm, the guitarist of Oort.
