Amorphis Comments On Upcoming Album Recording
Finnish forerunners of melancholic dark metal, Amorphis, recently announced that they will enter the studio in September to record their yet-untitled 11th album. The follow-up to 2011’s "The Beginning Of Times" (reviewed here) will be produced and mixed by Hypocrisy and Pain mastermind Peter Tägtgren.
“We had to face the fact that if we want to develop our music and sound we need a producer who has a vision and whom we can accept as an authority,” commented Amorphis guitarist and founding member Esa Holopainen. “I know that we’re not the most flexible guys when it comes to letting outsiders into our camp for telling us how to do things. We spent one evening at our management office, talking about the right producer and the recording sessions in general. As usual, the best decisions are not far to seek. We've been talking to Peter about him producing Amorphis for ages. I think the first time we spoke about this was when we met first at the Nuclear Blast festival tour in 1994, and it was in Helsinki around a year ago when we last speculated about the idea. We've been following Peter's career - he's developed as a musician and especially as a producer over the years. Plus he's one of the true survivors from the 90's death metal scene who is still around just like us, so we share kind of an old school mental level.”
The recordings are set to take place in the famous premises of Petrax Studio in Hollola and 5K Studios in Helsinki. Esa explains: “We’ve decided to record in Finland so that Peter can come here to escape to Petrax in the countryside with us, in order to record all the drums plus some additional lines. Later on, we’ll continue in Helsinki at 5K Studios to lay down the rest of the material. The mixing will be done with Peter in the Swedish Abyss Studios. We’ll keep you posted about how the sessions proceed!” More...

Amorphis Comments On Finnish Shows
Amorphis has checked in with the following announcement about upcoming Finnish tour dates:
"Are you planning a trip to Finland soon? Well, you should! In April, Amorphis will perform at several classical concert halls in major Finnish towns. The band wants to offer its fans a chance of hearing Amorphis in an environment very different from the usual. After the recent tours abroad, the concert hall tour means charting an entirely new territory."
Esa Holopainen sheds some light on what is to be expected: "The shows will include songs we have not played in a long time as well as acoustic arrangements of our better-known tunes. However, it is not going to be a completely acoustic set. We have toured full power for quite a few years now, and with this concert hall setting and the new repertoire, we want to challenge not only our listeners but also ourselves. We noticed that in fact we have rather many songs that are acoustic or feature plenty of acoustic instruments in their compositions. More...

70,000 Tons of Metal Day 4: Doesn't get any better
Although there had certainly been nothing to complain about with the weather thus far on the cruise, the final full day heralded the most perfect weather we had seen yet: not a cloud in the sky, deliciously warm, and thankfully not too windy (which had previously been a problem from time to time). With a full complement of great bands to check out and oddly, no ill-effects from the previous night's alcoholic adventures, I was primed for an absolutely awesome day.
Check out the day 4 photos: Atheist, Alestorm, Gravedigger, Coroner, Amorphis, Venom, Suffocation. More...
