Amorphis Performs at El Corazon in Seattle, WA
On the night of October 10th, Finnish mythology came to life at El Corazon in Seattle, WA when Amorphis dropped in town. Along with these Finns came Switzerland’s Samael and Virgin Black from down under. Also on the bill were two local Seattle bands, Black Breath and Asema. Black Breath opened the show with some extended groove-metal hardcore and metalcore screaming, pumping energy into the crowd and prepping them for the rest of the other bands. More...
Virgin Black Announces New US Tour Dates
Australia's death-doom ensemble, Virgin Black, will be hitting the road this weekend for a 20 date North American tour with Amorphis and Samael. Band leader Rowan London offers the following update:
"After a barrage of attention and gift giving from a fine conglomerate of people in Mexico, we're now in New York with our friends at The End Records readying ourselves for what will no doubt be an exhausting but enthralling tour. I assure those coming out to the shows that we'll leave it all on the stage, with every ounce of our being going into our twisted little piece of art." More...
Leaves' Eyes Cancel Upcoming North American Tour
German gothic metallers, Leaves' Eyes, issue the following explanation for the canceling of their North American tour:
"We are terribly sorry to tell you that our record label (Napalm Records) has decided to cancel our upcoming North American tour. This is due to the fact that the release of our first DVD has been postponed. We really regret this. Moreover, we've tried everything possible to save the tour, however, we now have to face the fact that we cannot change the situation. We wish AMORPHIS, SAMAEL and VIRGIN BLACK all the best for the tour, and we hope to be back in the States and Canada in 2009."
Virgin Black Adding Mexico Tour Dates
Australia's VIRGIN BLACK, who are are returning to the United States and Canada this fall to tour with with Finland's AMORPHIS and Switzerland's SAMAEL, are also returning to Mexico for some tour dates as well.
About returning to Mexico, singer/keyboardist Rowan London comments, "Following the amazing response from our previous visit and the almost desperate requests for a return, we proudly announce that Mexico will be included in Virgin Black's 2008 forays in the flesh; meaning, we will be appearing live in Mexico in September. This enhances greatly an already highly anticipated tour of the U.S. and Canada alongside Amorphis and Samael. Bless thy bleeding ears."
The band recently released the album 'Requiem - Fortissimo' (on THE END), the second instalment of a trilogy, an album that exhumes the death/doom vibe of early Paradise Lost and My Dying Bride.

Amorphis Keyboardist Talks About Next Album
Greece's Rockpages.gr recently conducted an interview with AMORPHIS keyboardist Santeri Kallio. An excerpt from the chat follows:
Rockpages.gr: After the every successful "Eclipse" you have returned with "Silent Waters". With these two records you have created a certain style. Is this the way AMORPHIS will sound in the future or you have more surprises for your fans?
Santeri Kallio: "First of all, we were really happy how 'Eclipse' turned out to be. We produced the album by ourselves as we did already with 'Far From the Sun' and we had a chance to use Mikko Karmila as a sound engineer as we did with 'Tuonela' and 'Am Universum'. Overall every part in the process of making 'Eclipse' worked out so smoothly that we decided to use the same working method with 'Silent Waters'. Especially we tried not to change everything totally different, like let's say in the transition between 'Elegy' and 'Tuonela'... Of course, we had to come up with the new songs and hopefully very good ones. We still had a lot of things to improve and experiment thus Tomi had only been in AMORPHIS for about two years. So we had our eureka moments in the rehearsing place too. I think since Tomi joined the band has really found its sound. I will not promise that the next will sound exactly the same, but one thing I know for sure is that we won't be trying to change the style just for experiment to a totally different direction. Of course we will experiment more with the balance with the brutal sound and melodic style and try to make it work even better. Actually, we have not yet started to listen material what everyone in the band has to offer for the next album, but I think we'll stick to the overall feeling of these two 'Eclipse' and 'Silent Waters'. The band has a lot of surprises in the closet since there is six guys composing and arranging the material. It makes the next album definitely interesting to wait."
Rockpages.gr: Almost 20 years of AMORPHIS. If someone listens to your music can easily understand your influences. After all these years you are now influential to other bands. Which parts or "ingredients" of your music will stay for the next generation of metal bands?
Santeri Kallio: "Hard to say. Someone else excluding the band could probably speculate about this. If I really have to, I would say...death metal guitar riff, growling vocal and some melodic keyboards top of it and jamming drunken bass player. Just basic melodeath. Could be something else or could be nothing. But I don't think it will be the rocking style we did in the 'Far from the Sun'. Maybe it's the ouzo and beer drink mix we discovered last time in Greece."

One more international act as well as four Serbian support bands will be announced soon.
TESTAMENT has set "The Formation of Damnation" as the title of its new album, tentatively due in early 2008 via Nuclear Blast Records.
The band is currently recording the effort with producer Andy Sneap (MACHINE HEAD, EXODUS, ARCH ENEMY, NEVERMORE) at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California.
TESTAMENT recently recruited Paul Bostaph (SLAYER, EXODUS, FORBIDDEN, SYSTEMATIC) to play the drums on new CD. The group was previously rehearsing and writing new material with British drummer Nick Barker (CRADLE OF FILTH, DIMMU BORGIR), but Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and international work visa issues have prevented Barker from continuing to be involved in the project.
Bostaph, who was a member of TESTAMENT for a brief period starting around February 2004, had previously played several live dates with the group in 1992 and appeared on the band's 1993 live EP, "Return to the Apocalyptic City". He also toured with TESTAMENT in 2006.
TESTAMENT's current lineup is rounded out by Chuck Billy on vocals, Eric Peterson on rhythm guitar, Alex Skolnick on lead guitar and Greg Christian on bass.
