Migration Fest 2016 Announced

20 Buck Spin and Gilead Media will join forces in Summer 2016 to present the inaugural Migration Festival in Olympia, Washington. Jointly conceived by the two labels, Migration Fest will primarily showcase bands from each label's roster, as well as select other affiliated and respected artists.

The festival is set to take place at the historic Capitol Theater in downtown Olympia on August 12th, 13th, and 14th. Confirmed bands include Auroch, The Body & Krieg collaborative performance, Christian Mistress, Dead To A Dying World, False, Fórn, Full Of Hell, Khemmis, Kowloon Walled City, Krallice, Mutilation Rites, Nightfell, Obsequiae, Pale Chalice, Thou, Vastum, Vhol, And Yellow Eyes.

Approximately six additional bands, including some headliners, will be announced later. There will also be separate after-shows to occur at a smaller local venue. Ticket information, including price and on-sale date, will be announced in the near future.

20 Buck Spin founder David Adelson comments: "I'd heard Adam (Bartlett, Gilead Media boss) was thinking of coming West to do the next iteration of Gilead Fest. I'd been thinking of doing something similar myself for years but never had, and so suggested we join up and do something together. Adam was immediately receptive and the idea for Migration Festival was born right then. Olympia felt right since I'm already based here, and because of its small size and walkability this is a great place to have it, both for locals, and for out-of-towers.

Says Adam Bartlett, "After two successful installments of my own Gilead Fest in this small Wisconsin town it seemed like the time was right to branch out and try something different. The idea to work with Dave and his label on a collaborative event makes perfect sense given our similar music backgrounds and diverse, but complimentary label families. And Olympia serves as the perfect central location for this type of festival." More...

Kowloon Walled City Posts "Backlit" Track

"Grievances" is the forthcoming new full-length from San Francisco's Kowloon Walled City (a name gamers may recognize as a location set prominently in the new Shadowrun: Hong Kong PC game).

Set for release next month on October 9, the band's first offering under the Neurot Recordings banner and third studio recording overall finds the eclectic collective at an artistic apex, shifting even further from sludgy post-hardcore roots towards a sparser, more melancholic heaviness.

On the seven-track "Grievances," strings rattle, guitars crackle and blister, notes ring out, at turns bleak and beautiful - sometimes both at once. Captured and mixed by vocalist Scott Evans at Sharkbite Studios and his own Antisleep Audio, both in Oakland, the recording is honest and spacious, and intense without artifice or studio trickery.

Check out the new song "Backlit" below, and you can see Kowloon Walled City live on these upcoming tour dates:

11/1/2015 The Observatory - Day Of The Shred Fest - Santa Ana, CA
11/2/2015 Starlight Lounge - Sacramento, CA
11/3/2015 Obsidian - Olympia, WA
11/4/2015 The Shakedown - Bellingham, WA
11/5/2015 Highline - Seattle, WA

Kowloon Walled City Signs With Neurot

Neurot Recordings is very pleased to welcome San Francisco-based sludge/noise rock unit Kowloon Walled City to the label family for the CD release of an as-yet-untitled third full-length, expected out this Fall, with Gilead Media handling the release on vinyl.

Comments Neurot's Steve Von Till: "Kowloon Walled City is a hardworking, no-nonsense group of people, who deliver no-nonsense, in-your-face aggressive music. We couldn't be happier."

Adds the band, "It goes without saying but we're all honored and excited about this. Literally every interaction we've had with the Neurosis camp has been great - they are super solid people who 100% get it. The same goes for Gilead Media. All right, back to work."

Named after a now-demolished Hong Kong region notorious for its brothels, opium dens and casinos, Kowloon Walled City was formed in 2007 and has since released an EP, two full-lengths and a number of splits.

Unearthing The Metal Underground in the Bay Area

Each week in "Unearthing the Metal Underground," we'll be putting a few quality underground bands in the spotlight in an attempt to get the word out about them. This week I am spreading the word from the San Francisco Bay Area metal scene.

The Bay Area's metal legacy began with the '80s thrash scene, which gave birth to Metallica, Exodus, Testament, and Death Angel. Neurosis entered the scene with their experimental metal, and Primus and Faith No More turned heads in what could only be referred to as alternative metal. Starting in the '90s, Machine Head evolved the thrash sound into groove metal. Currently, Ludicra, whose black metal has been in the scene since the late '90s, is generating a lot of excitement about their soon to release album, "The Tenant." Today, the Bay Area houses up and coming metal bands who not only reflect the heritage of the region, but filter in influences from a variety of genres. More...

Kowloon Walled City Post EP For Free Download

KOWLOON WALLED CITY has just released an EP for free download. It's called "Turk Street" and can be found at the band's homepage.

Kowloon Walled City is detuned, sludgy hardcore/noise rock/metal. There's some Unsane and Shallow North Dakota influence in there. The band are currently working on a full-length for spring release, and playing shows in and around San Francisco.
