On March 16th, 2012, Motorbreath Entertainment intended to create one of the best lineups featuring bands from the “New Wave of Thrash Metal.” Exmortus, Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf and Witchaven were on the bill to play Betsy’s Bar at Austin’s annual South By Southwest (SXSW) Festival. Oregon’s Spellcaster offered a style more in line with the New Wave of Classic Metal scene that has, in a sense, run parallel with the new thrash movement.
Besides Corrosion of Conformity who came to town with their crossover thrash, “Animosity” lineup, thrash metal is an endangered species in Austin during this time of the year. When I saw Motorbreath had organized a lineup of such great, young thrash bands, I had to help with promotion. Unfortunately, a number of mishaps led to Betsy’s Bar canceling the show. However, thanks to Alex Campos of local metal marauders, Beyond The Blood, the show went on! More...
Metal Underground previously reported the cancellation of Motorbreath's SXSW show featuring artists such as Havok, Bonded By Blood and Spellcaster. We contacted Motorbreath owner and show booker, Tristan Spears to get his side of the story. Now, in all fairness, we bring our readers the other side of the story told by a representative of Betsy's Bar. More...
Motorbreath Entertainment's SXSW Showcase contained a tremendous bill of new school thrash and heavy metal artists such as Bonded By Blood, Havok, Speedwolf, Exmortus, Witchaven and Spellcaster. The stellar lineup was the only old school-metal oriented event at SXSW, which was cause for Metal Underground to sponsor the event. Unfortunately, the March 16th show at Betsy's came to a abrupt and disappointing end. After the first three bands performed, Motorbreath founder, Tristan Spears announced that if more people didn't drink more alcohol, the show would be canceled. After much deliberation, the show was indeed canceled.
Spears provided Metal Underground with the following statement: More...
Saskatoon's thrash trio Untimely Demise have just locked down a Spring tour of the western half of Canada and the United States.
The young crew will take their blazing modernized classic thrash metal to the highways of North America kicking off in their home province of Saskatchewan at the end of March and rage west across the country and down the U.S. West Coast. Untimely Demise will share the stage with Excruciator, Hatched, Hemoptysis, Exmortus and labelmates Mares Of Thrace, and more along the trek, even including a co-headlining slot at San Jose's Beyond The Realms of Metal Festival.
This brutal trek is being booked in conjunction with the upcoming vinyl edition of Untimely Demise's debut full-length "City Of Steel," set to be co-released by Sonic Unyon and War On Music. Limited to 1,000 copies worldwide, the 12" features a full-color insert and a bonus track of the anthem "My Tragedy," from the band's 2009-released "Full Speed Metal" EP. The wax version of "City Of Steel" will hit the streets of Canada on March 13th and invade the U.S. on March 27th, with European distribution to be confirmed shortly.
Metalunderground.com is proud to sponsor the Motorbreath Entertainment SXSW 2012 Showcase, featuring Havok, Spellcaster, Exmortus, Witchaven, Speedwolf and many more. The event takes place on Friday, March 16, 2012 at 3:00 PM (CT) at Betsy's Bar in Austin, Texas. Doors open at 3:00 pm CT. You can purchase tickets here.

Footage has been posted online of Exmortus performing "Kneel Before the Steel," which is taken from the band's upcoming album "Beyond the Fall of Time." You can check out the clip below. "Beyond the Fall of Time" is coming September 6th, 2011 through Heavy Artillery Records.
Since the release of the band's debut album "In Hatreds Flame" in July 2008, Exmoruts has kept busy touring and gigging relentlessly with bands such as label mates Vektor and L.A. black thrashers Witchaven. After suffering a temporary setback with the departure of former front man Balmore during early 2010, the band rebounded quickly with lead guitar shredder Conan taking over on vocals and the addition of new guitarist Sean Redline.
The short break from the band's busy live schedule also provided the act with the time needed to complete material for the upcoming sophomore album entitled "Beyond the Fall of Time." The death-thrash quartet entered Black Static Studio in Los Angeles to begin recording "Beyond the Fall of Time," tentatively scheduled for release during late summer 2011 on Heavy Artillery Records.
Drummer Mario Moreno had this to say about the new line-up and progress in the studio to date:
"We’ve been at Black Static Studios for nine days now and we feel that we couldn’t have picked a better studio to capture the new material. The line-up change during early 2010 set our original recording plans back by several months so we’re excited to finally be recording this album. With the new line-up of Conan on vocals and the addition of Sean Redline on second guitar the band is at its strongest ever. We’re really happy with the new material and the heavier sound. Sean has contributed a lot of great ideas to the album overall and Conan will finally get to showcase his vocals."
You can listen to the demo versions of "Destroy" and "Entombed with the Pharaohs" from the upcoming album at this location.
Los Angeles based act Exmortus is heading into the studio in February to record the band's new album "Beyond the Fall of Time," which is the follow up to 2008’s "In Hatred’s Flame." To give fans a taste of what to expect Exmortus has posted a demo track called "Destroy," which can be heard here.
As a bonus, "Entombed with the Pharaohs," another demo track from the forthcoming "Beyond the Fall of Time" can also be heard through the Heavy Artillery MySpace page.
We've been talking to bands and fans everywhere to get their favorite mosh pit stories. This week Mario, drummer of L.A. death/thrash band Exmortus, shares a story about insane backyard gigs in L.A.:
Some of the best pits this band has seen were from playing backyard shows in East Los Angeles. Theres nothing like have 100-200 people drunk and under aged crammed in a small yard pitting and head banging their asses off. This one particular night I will never forget, it was one of our first times playing a backyard show and also in East Los. Although the house was pretty small it was also ridiculously packed, the band barely had any room to set up. So we start rockin out in this little corner and the pit just broke out. There were kids diving off the garage and right in the middle of a song a mob of people slam into the band. I remember looking over and seeing conans amp at about a 45 degree angle up against the garage door with him on it still playing haha. It was pretty wild one of many crazy pit stories this band has had.
This past summer Exmortus recruited new guitarist Sean Redline while lead shredder/songwriter Conan has also taken over vocal duties. The band recorded a two-track demo to give fans a taste of what to expect from the new line up and the yet-unnamed new album is tentatively scheduled for release during spring 2011.
The band was recently intereviewed by Terrorizor Magazine about the new album.
Check back every Tuesday for more pit stories.
