Scale The Summit will soon be laying down the tracks for a new album to follow "The Migration." The band released this brief message to fans:
"Recording for Scale the Summit album #5 starts this Wednesday for the next two months! Make sure to follow us all on Instagram, we'll be posting more clips of the process there than anywhere else!"
The instrumental band's latest album "The Migration" was released back in June of 2013. Stay tuned for more details on the upcoming release.
Scale The Summit has issued the following announcement about guitarist Chris Letchford injuring his finger:
"It's every guitar player's worst nightmare...but last night Chris had a pocket knife close on his fingertip cutting it all the way down to the bone while fixing a part of our merch booth sign.
"An ER visit and some stitches later, he'll be just fine, but unfortunately we're unable play the show in Denver, CO today and possibly a few more, time will tell.
"We need time for Chris' finger to heal and time to create backing tracks for several songs Chris can't play in the event that he still isn't healed enough when we resume the tour. This way, we can still present as much of a Scale the Summit show as we possibly can on the remaining dates, given the circumstances.
"We apologize profusely in advance to our fans and we hope to be back soon to make it up to you. Please go support our brothers in Monuments, Reflections, Erra and Glass Cloud! Please stay tuned here on our page for updates on the next few shows." More...
Prosthetic Records has issued the following announcement about releasing a vinyl edition of "Carving Desert Canyons" from Scale The Summit:
"As 2008 came to a close, heavy music was beginning to show signs of a transformation. At the top of the food chain, Metallica was actively promoting their new album 'Death Magnetic,' but year-end 'best-of' lists were instead populated with adventurous, forward-thinking acts like Opeth, Meshuggah, Enslaved, Gojira and the recently reunited Cynic. 2008 was also the first year in more than a decade with no Ozzfest tour, which furthered the sense of an imminent paradigm shift for the genre.
"In a different climate, a group that specialized in instrumental melodic progressive metal might have struggled to catch people’s attention. Luckily for Scale The Summit, though, the time was right to make an immediate impact. The group had already self-released one well-received album, but their Prosthetic debut 'Carving Desert Canyons' — released in February of 2009 — formally introduced the Texas quartet to the world at large. Its timeless, classic-minded progressive hard rock was hailed by Guitar World as 'full of tightly-woven guitar interplay, irregular time signatures and tasteful licks,' while Revolver called the album 'a cinematic blast of intricately melodic fretwork and pummeling percussion.'
"The biggest endorsement of all, however, came from drum legend Mike Portnoy, who hand-picked Scale The Summit to open Dream Theater’s Progressive Nation summer tour that year. Additional tours with Protest The Hero, Between The Buried and Me, Cynic and Devin Townsend capped off an incredible 12 months that cemented the group’s arrival on the scene and solidified their reputation as a rising star in contemporary metal. The Ocean will be returning to North America this spring for the first time since last year's The Summer Slaughter Tour. In just over a month, the co-headline tour with Prosthetic Recording artist Scale the Summit begins.
The tour also includes special guests The Atlas Moth and Silver Snakes, and is being presented by Metal Sucks. The tour kicks off on Wednesday, March 5th in Seattle and wraps up on Sunday, March 30th in Cambridge, including two dates scheduled in Austin, TX for SXSW.
The Ocean will notice a change in the lineup from the last time around, as the band has added drummer Paul Seidel and guitarist Damian Murdoch to replace Luc Hess and Jona Nido, who departed the band on mutual terms late last year.
Two live videos have been made available from The Summer Slaughter Tour stop at the Rave in Milwaukee, WI. Check them out in the playlist below. The Ocean founder and guitarist Robin Staps comments on the videos:
"Summer Slaughter was the final US tour for Luc and Jona. These clips bring back good memories of our last summer together and a lot of crazy parties in parking lots across the country. Now I'm really looking forward to getting back to the US with our new guys. We've started rehearsing for our upcoming tours this week, and there's a really good vibe in the room. We're hungry to get out again, we've only been home for two months now but it already feels too long." More...
The Ocean will be returning to North America in 2014 for a co-headline run with Prosthetic Recording artist Scale the Summit and special guests The Atlas Moth and Silver Snakes, presented by Metal Sucks.
The tour kicks off on Wednesday, March 5th in Seattle and wraps up on Sunday, March 30th in Cambridge Mass., including two dates scheduled in Austin, TX for SXSW.
The Ocean's Robin Staps comments: "We're excited to return to the US with our first headline tour since 2008. A lot has happened in the meantime and the band is in a different place now, both musically as well as lineup-wise. We have played some bigger tours which came with a lot of compromises (short set, no production, rushed changeovers), so we are really happy that we're finally gonna be able to offer our Stateside fans and supporters a ‘full’ The Ocean set. We will be playing 'Pelagial' in its entirety most nights, the way it's been written and the way it's been meant to be performed live, as well as some 'Heliocentric', 'Anthropocentric' and 'Precambrian' tunes."
