First Bands Confirmed For Wacken Open Air 2019

The first batch of bands for next year's edition of Wacken Open Air, the thirtieth anniversary of the festivals, have been announced, including power metal supergroup Demons & Wizards, who have stated that it will be their only German festival show. Also announced for the event so far are Sabaton, Parkway Drive, Airbourne, Within Temptation, Rose Tattoo, Krokus, Powerwolf, Dark Funeral, Meshuggah and Avatar. The event is set to take place from August 1st - 3rd.

Demons & Wizards/Iced Earth guitarist Jon Schaffer stated: "It's a good pressure for Hansi and I, it's a good kind. It's the kind we like. We're very excited about it. The thing is we wanted to continue the Demons & Wizards thing, but with Iced Earth and Blind Guardian, we're very busy people, and our schedules... it's just one of those times right now where the holes are lining up in the right way for us to be able to commit to shows next summer. So it's cool."

Airbourne Posts Motorhead Tribute Video

Airborune today reveals a rip-roaring video for "It's All For Rock N' Roll," the climactic track on current studio album, "Breakin' Outta Hell." Check it out below (or at Vevo here if it doesn't load below).

"It's All For Rock N' Roll" was written about Lemmy, a man the band looked up to, befriended and loved, having shared stages with Motörhead on numerous occasions both in Europe and Australia. When Airbourne needed someone to drive a large truck (recklessly, of course) in the "Runnin' Wild" video (2007), Lemmy was the first name on the list, and he duly obliged with a memorable, authority-baitin' cameo.

Motörhead's famous "bomber" lighting rig, a noted part of 'Head history since the late '70s, was enthusiastically lent to Airbourne by the Motörhead camp, adding real emotional weight to both the "It's All For Rock N' Roll" clip and the song itself - an anthemic number recorded to honour one of rock's most revered and influential figures.

"When Motörhead played, Lemmy was there for the fans and the fans were there for him. It didn't matter what was happening in the world at that point, because Motörhead was onstage; the crew had everything dialled in, and the crowd were there and lovin' it - all for rock n' roll," said Airbourne frontman Joel O'Keeffe. "Whenever we were on tour, we looked forward to seeing the festival posters with the big Motörhead logo on there, and now there's just a big black hole. 'We are Motörhead, and we play rock 'n' roll,' we were so used to hearing that, and when it's not there anymore, it hits you hard. Lemmy meant so much to us, and so much to rock 'n' roll itself..." Airbourne Vocalist Falls Off Stage

While shirtless, sweaty, and soloing his way through the encore of "Running Wild" at a September 22nd show in Kamloops, British Columbia, Airbourne lead singer and guitarist Joel O'Keeffe suffered quite the mishap.

While feverishly headbanging and slaying his instrument, the front man fell off stage. While O'Keeffe escaped serious injury, he did break a few ribs and tore ligaments in his foot. Despite taking a nasty tumble, O'Keefe finished the show, playing while seated in a chair. Airbourne hasn't canceled a single tour date and will continue to roll on!

Airbourne Posts "Breakin' Outta Hell" Video

"I'm gonna hit the highway and never look back" is the line that launches Airborune's latest, tarmac-trashin' single "Breakin' Outta Hell."

The lyric video accompanying the song - created by Richard Oakes from Dark Fable Media - may have implications for those with easy access to open roads. Watch the clip from start to finish and you might just get the urge to open the throttle.

"We get a lot of feedback from our fans saying how much they love the faster tracks," says Airbourne frontman Joel O'Keeffe. "But when they play them in the car... well, it can be tough on their pocket with all the speeding fines! 'Breakin' Outta Hell' is definitely one of THOSE numbers... even the guys who filmed the lyric video were stopped by the police and given a fine.

"For us, these visuals really sum up the feeling behind the song and the album, too. The whole message is right there. Put on the single, or the album, and it's, 'Fuck the boss and fuck all the tax I owe. I'm going out, I'm getting pissed and I'm going to listen to some hard rock 'n' roll.' No ballads, no bullshit. I'm breaking out of hell!"

"Breakin' Outta Hell" is the title track off Airbourne's fourth studio album, which is due out via Spinefarm Records on September 23rd. More...

Airbourne Signs With Spinefarm

The unswerving champions of the hard rock cause from Airbourne have signed a worldwide deal with Spinefarm Records. The label comments:

"Driven by a formidable 'work hard, play hard' ethic, and keen to entertain on the grandest of scales, this award-winning quartet, formed in regional Australia in 2003, have been proudly walking the rock 'n' roll path since their early teenage years, inspired by the music's great and glorious past, yet determined to move things forward on a wave of blurred limbs and boundless energy.

"Led into action by brothers Joel and Ryan O'Keeffe, vocalist/lead guitarist and drummer, respectively, the lineup is completed by David Roads on guitar and Justin Street on bass. The four have spent the past 10 years establishing themselves as a true force of nature: living on the road, selling out major venues, charting albums and appearing on bills with some of rock's most legendary names, from Iron Maiden to the Rolling Stones.

"With Airbourne, everything is to the hilt, which means that front man Joel O'Keeffe is as likely to be climbing the lighting rig or going 'walkabout' in the venue as positioned behind the mic; it also means that their three studio albums - Runnin' Wild (2007), No Guts. No Glory (2009) and Black Dog Barking (2013) - are home to some of the most rousing rock anthems of the past few years.

"Songs like 'Too Much, Too Young, Too Fast,' 'No Way But the Hard Way,' 'Live it Up' and 'Runnin' Wild' itself comprise a body of work that hasn't escaped the notice of AC/DC's Angus Young, who was recently asked in an interview what he thinks of modern rock music, saying, 'I see it as healthy, because there's newer stuff coming through. I really like Airbourne.' More...

More Bands Confirmed For Sonisphere U.K.

The organizers of the British leg of the Sonisphere festival have confirmed a number of new additions to the event. New Wave Of British Heavy Metal legends Diamond Head have been confirmed for the Friday date, which will also feature the "Big Four" of thrash metal. In addition to this, Weezer, Architects and Aussie rockers, Airbourne have also been confirmed. Speaking on the confirmation, Diamond Head guitarist Brian Tatler stated:

"Diamond Head have been given the fantastic opportunity of opening for the BIG 4 at this years Sonisphere festival, Knebworth Friday 8th July. This will be Diamond Head’s biggest ever show and myself and the other band members are very excited and looking forward to what will be an historic event. Knebworth is one of those venues you only dream of playing. I saw Led Zeppelin there in 1979 and never imagined that one day I would be on that stage, it proves the saying ‘anything is possible’! It also means I get to see my friends in Metallica and Megadeth once again which is always fun; I owe both Lars Ulrich and Dave Mustaine a beer."

The event will take place from July 8th - 10th at Knebworth and features the following confirmed bands:

Diamond Head
Biffy Clyro
In Flames
Parkway Drive
