Former NIN Drummer To Release Concept Album

JEROME DILLON, best known for his work over the past six years as drummer and occasional guitarist with Nine Inch Nails, will release "reminder," the first album from his band nearLY [sic] on April 11, 2006 (KUFALA Recordings/La Cosa Nostra). nearLY : reminder was recorded in Los Angeles and features Dillon as the primary writer, producer, performer and arranger, accompanied by former 12 Rounds vocalist Claudia Sarne, Afghan Whigs/Twilight Singers' Greg Dulli, former NIN programmer Keith Hillebrandt, violinist Petra Haden, and engineer/co-producer Brett Pierce.

With one media outlet describing the album's sound as being "reminiscent of artists such as Pink Floyd, The Cure, and Dead Can Dance," nearLY: reminder is an intoxicating and hypnotic collection of 12 songs that merge baroque strings and acoustic instrumentation with aggressive, bombastic drums and bass. nearLY : reminder is also a concept album that attempts to musically document a recurring dream Dillon had over a six-year period. "I kept getting a bit further along the path every time I had the dream, so I thought that it must be trying to tell me something," he explains. "And for about the last year of it, the dream ended with me accepting an invitation to drown myself in a very serene and calm body of water. Without sounding too bleak or depressing, the name 'nearLY' just seemed to represent where we're ALL heading: to the end of our time here."

nearLY: reminder began in 1999 while Dillon was on a break from NIN's "Fragility" tour. He had cut demos on a digital four-track in various hotel rooms throughout Europe on that tour, and the project then evolved over the next two years as Dillon and Pierce experimented in the studio with different musical textures and tones. ex-NIN Drummer Dillon Clarifies Somewhat

It turns out Nine Inch Nails drummer Jerome Dillon, who was replaced three weeks ago by Alex Carapetis after leaving the band following its October 1 performance at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles, isn't sick at all. On his Web site on Friday, Dillon, who was said to have been undergoing treatment for an unspecified heart condition and was previously supposedly diagnosed as suffering from exhaustion and fatigue, revealed he's perfectly healthy. "Contrary to many published reports in the music press, I want to make it clear that my departure from the band has absolutely nothing to do with my health," he wrote, adding that he's no longer a member of Nine Inch Nails. "I've learned much about myself — and those around me (particularly in the last month) — and it's brought about many positive changes. Although I appreciate the concern, I am not sick or recuperating. I feel great (physically and otherwise) and am playing the best drums of my life right now."

NIN Launch Special Concert Ticketing Program

NINE INCH NAILS has launched a special ticketing program for its upcoming run of U.S. tour dates. A two-tiered effort to combat ticket scalping has been put in place to help ensure that true fans have the maximum opportunity to obtain premium seating for NINE INCH NAILS concerts. Through the band's fan club ticketing and online auction program, NINE INCH NAILS is helping prevent scalpers from its selling tickets at inflated unauthorized prices and, in true Robin Hood fashion, NINE INCH NAILS will donate to charity, what would have been the scalper's proceeds.

Phase one of the program established a unique NINE INCH NAILS fan club, to enable members to exclusively obtain the very best tickets for the tour. In an effort to reduce scalper access no other advance ticket programs through venues, radio stations, e-mail lists or sponsors were offered. Members who purchase tickets through the NIN fan club program will be directed to pick up their tickets 30 minutes before doors open in each city and will be immediately escorted into the venue. Tickets will not be distributed to buyers in advance.

NIN's Trent Reznor explained: "We've put extra effort into developing this program as an effective way to ensure that NINE INCH NAILS fans get into the show with the best possible tickets. The only complaints will be from scalpers and those who want to put our true fans at a disadvantage."

The second phase of the ticketing program includes a series of online auctions conducted through Ticketmaster. Beginning, Monday, August 8 at noon local time, fans may log on to www.ticketmaster.com to bid on premium concert tickets for NIN shows at 19 venues throughout the U.S. and Canada. Auctions for additional shows will go live on August 22.

Ticketmaster's David Goldberg explains: "These auctions give NINE INCH NAILS the ability to take money that might otherwise go into scalpers' pockets, and put it in the hands of a deserving organization."

Proceeds from the online auctions will be directed to the non-profit organization The Innocence Project, which provides post-conviction DNA testing which yield conclusive proof of innocence. Reznor notes, "We know we cannot stop all ticket reselling but if we can redirect some of that unauthorized margin to a good cause like the Innocence Project, it makes me feel like we have done something worthwhile."

Barry C. Scheck and Peter J. Neufeld created the Innocence Project in 1992. It was set up as and remains a non-profit legal clinic. This Project only handles cases where post conviction DNA testing of evidence can yield conclusive proof of innocence. All Innocence Project clients go through an extensive screening process to determine whether or not DNA testing of evidence could prove their claims of innocence. Peter Neufeld comments, "The Innocence Project is thrilled to be the beneficiary of the band's generosity. The wave of post-conviction DNA exonerations sends a message to all of us that the criminal justice system is broken and desperately needs to be fixed. Thank you NINE INCH NAILS for joining us in the quest for meaningful justice."

NINE INCH NAILS' fourth album, "With Teeth", was released on May 3 and debuted at number one on the Billboard Top 200. Before their U.S. arena tour, the band will embark on a tour of Japan and Australia. Concert dates with auction info listed: www.nin.com/tour/index.html

New Nine Inch Nails Album Could Come In 2006

Launch Radio Networks reports: NINE INCH NAILS may release a new album as early as next year, according to Kerrang! magazine. NIN mainman Trent Reznor told the U.K. publication, "We're already in talks about when we can put it out. 'With Teeth' was finished but my creative cycle isn't, so I'm trying to focus and apply myself to writing while I'm on the road." Although five completed tunes were left off "With Teeth", Reznor said that he wasn't sure if he'd use them on the proposed new disc. "I'll see if they fit with the new stuff," he said. "If so, then great, but I'm not using them like 'Oh, look I'm already halfway done.' They may just show up as B-sides."

"With Teeth", the first album of new NINE INCH NAILS material since 1999's "The Fragile", has sold 579,363 copies since its release on May 3, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The CD sits at Number 70 on the Billboard Top 200 this week.

A video for the band's new single, "Only", has been posted online. The clip was shot by David Fincher, who directed the films "Seven" and "Fight Club".

NINE INCH NAILS will begin a North American tour with QUEENS OF THE STONE AGE on September 16 in San Diego, California.
