Latest Mnemic News
Below is our complete Mnemic news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Mnemic has issued the following recording update:
"After a week of recording drums at the Antfarm studios, we moved back into our own studio.
"This week we are starting recording the guitars. For this process we have tried out some heads and some different cabs. Apparently it was all in the cabs. We are using 3 different cabs, and actually one of them is the first Marshall cabinet that i bought when i was 17 years old. We even tried Line 6 cabs, but they have this canned sound (yes, they sound like shit), compared to the Marshall, they didn't stand a chance. Randall cabinets sounded pretty good too, but in the end we ended up using one Randall cabinet and 2 different Marshall cabs. Its weird considering that the same units are to be found in both cabs (or maybe all? i dunno).
"I have never been a sucker for gear, well at least not when we started the band, i always found it boring, but that's how it is when you are young, naive and like to party and have tits and ass on your mind 24/7. My point is that i learned the hard way about gear over the years, bad sounding shows forced me to look more and more into my gear. I always loved Machine Heads sound, and after playing with them a couple of times, i got into their gear as well. Both guitarists used old 5150s and i never understood how they got this massive sound, until i asked Rob about it, who solved the mystery by telling me its all in the Tube Screamer… i guess everybody knew that, except for moi – as i said, i never gave a shit about gear, i always fiddled around to whatever sounded good to my ears. Guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie of modern metallers Mnemic has sent in the following studio report from Antfarm Studio in Aarhus, Denmark:
"I can’t believe that we actually started tracking drums this week! This time around three years ago, we were doing the same thing at Track Record Studios in Los Angeles with Warren Riker. Oh boy, time flies when you are having fun… or getting old.
"Why don’t we just start from the beginning? At the end of 2007, I started composing the first MNEMIC song, which I later trashed ’cause it simply sucked. It was uninspiring, regular metal, nothing new under the sun. Since then, lots of songs have been trashed, ha ha… and the same goes for the other band members.
"We have had a hard time pinpointing where we wanted to go musically. We are 5 different individuals these days with 5 different views on music. I listen to everything from the Wu Tang Clan, to Curtis Mayfield, to all sorts of drum ‘n’ bass artists, to mostly the old-school metal records. The same goes for the others. We are not listening to the same metal albums that inspired us 6-7 years ago; we have different inspiration sources. This aspect did contribute to a lot of debate between us and also helped shape the 15 songs we chose out of a big bulk of material. At the end of the day, we are still a metal band, but with different inspirational sources. With this said, we are ready to fuck everyone up. More...
Mnemic has entered the studio to being recording their fourth studio album, entitled “Sons of the System,” for a January 2010 release via Nuclear Blast Records. The band states:
"After a minor 2 year break from touring, we have returned to the studio, to record 15 brand new tracks. Our batteries are re-charged and we are extremely excited to let you all hear the new stuff. The material it self is a mixture of grind, rock, polyrhythmics, electronics and represents the sound of a more mature Mnemic, at least in our humble opinion. Compared to the last album, the recordings will be kept completely on Danish soil. This time we are more within our own comfort zone, and will be working with the same dude that made us 2 great sounding albums in the past, which is none other than Tue Madsen, who is a really good friend and a great producer. The drums will be tracked at the Antfarm Studio, while guitars, bass and vocals will be immortalized at the bands own studio, under Tue’s supervision. At the end of the recording process, electronics, mix and mastering will then again be handled at the Antfarm Studios. During the recording process we will try to keep you all updated on the progress via sonsofthesystem.com.”
"Watch out for the 'Sons Of The System' in the making right here at this site! There will be tons of updates, pictures, videos and information directly from the band – Stay in-tune!"
Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, guitarist and songwriter for Denmark’s MNEMIC, has issued the following update:
“We have chosen Tue Madsen (Halford, Behemoth, Kataklysm, The Haunted) as the producer for the new album. He has been to our rehearsal space and we started talking about the direction and sound for the new album, Sons Of The System. We gave him half of the demo songs so far and now he is doing his evaluation of the 14 songs we have given him. There are 12 more. So far, the demos are ONLY working titles. The first song that is more or less finished title-wise is ‘March Of The Tripods.’ We are entering the studio in September, and the album will be released in January 2010.”
Danish modern metallers MNEMIC have issued the following band update:
“We apologize for the lack of news. We have been really bad with updates, but we can assure you it will change as we are taking the very first steps towards a new MNEMIC album.
“There has maybe been some speculations regarding our last show, which featured an unknown guitarist handling the duties as a stand-in for our very own Rune Stigart. To clarify the situation, Rune had to undergo surgery for an old wrist injury, in which the doctor advised not to perform over a specific period of time. The band had already been booked in advance to headline the Sardinias Heavy Sands festival, which was impossible to postpone. The band’s and Rune’s decision was to carry on with a stand-in guitarist. His name is Victor Ray Salomonsen. Some of you might recognize his mom, Sanne Salomonsen, the great and famous Danish rock mama.
“Victor stepped up to the plate and proved to be a great musician and performer, and we would like to thank him and the efforts made on such a very short notice prior to the scheduled appearance on Italian shores. We would also like to thank the organizers of Heavy Sands for making the show, trip, and the stay very special to the MNEMIC family! See you next year!”
The Heavy Sands 5-Day Metal Festival 2009 will take place from July 8th - 12th in Cagilari, Italy. The most recent bands to be confirmed for the festival are Chaoswave, Mnemic, and Kaledon.
Other confirmed bands include Kernel, Screaming Shadows, Broken Melody, Arhythmia, and Burning Ground.
Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, guitarist of Danish metal group Mnemic has checked in with an update regarding the band and its forthcoming new album It reads as follows:
"It’s been too damn long since the last update, which I must apologize for. First of all, a really late Happy New Year from the lads in Mnemic to all of you reading this. It’s about time we rise from the dormancy and break the silence to give you all an update from the Mnemic camp!
"Since we took a break from touring in 2008 - and apart from playing a few shows with Metallica (yes, I still mention this ’cause I’m damn proud of it!) - things have been quite productive. We have definitely not been lazy, that’s for sure. As we recharged our batteries in this break, we also felt the hunger for creativity and started writing new material. Already I can confirm that we have 11 brand new songs written and we are still a long way from finishing. The plan is, of course, to write as many songs as possible until we are 110% satisfied with all the material. For now, the title of the new album is set as Sons Of The System. More...
Danish industrial death metal band Mnemic has issued an in depth post tour update. Excerpts from the update can be viewed below or the whole thing can be read on their MySpace page.
This is just a tour recap as we came home a couple of days ago from a short run of 3 shows, spread out on 10 days with the mighty mighty super-incredible Metallica!
I must admit, we are one hell of a lucky band, to play with Metallica for the 4th time. I dont care about all the other bands who have already played with them, who all sell more records than us, i am just extremely happy, that a bunch of rednecks like us, out of nomans land, the country of vikings, got the big opportunity to be on stage with one of the biggest heavy metal bands in the world! I've wrote it, and ill write it again, Metallica are in the best shape of their career and they are back stronger than ever!
Watching them from stage, feeling the power and the energy and their joy for playing, just gets you the goosebumps and gets you pumped with more energy. I am pretty sure Rob and the rest of the gang in Machine Head would have to agree to that, cause we all where rockin out to their songs! More...

Mnemic have been added to two dates on METALLICA's European summer tour: May 28th at Slaski Stadium in Chorzow, Poland and June 3rd at Slavia Stadium in Prague, Czech Republic.
Says guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie, "We are beyond thrilled and more than happy to be heading out with the mighty Metallica this summer! Again!
We are excitedly looking forward to this wonderful opportunity, that we have been given, and can't wait to blast some Mnemic waves for y'all. I can only say that we consider this event a true privilege specially to be invited by Lars and Metallica, and we can not be thankful enough!
On top of all of this, I will be celebrating my birthday on the 3rd of June, the same day we will be sharing the stage.. .I truly couldnt have asked for a better birthday present than this one!
From the lads and yours truly, a big thank you to everyone involved in making this happen.
See you out there for some metal, cervezas and a sea of meat!
As for the Danish tour dates, no, its not a mistake, we are actually playing 2 shows in one day - now you know."
Guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie of the Danish modern metallers MNEMIC has issued the following update:
"We are back from the rotten dead, finally with some great news for y'all."
"We toured most of last year, which was very fun but at the same time very exhausting for some of us, which lead to a minor break in order to recharge our batteries and reload our guns. We have finally regained focus and are now ready to bring MNEMIC back on the map."
"I know many of you have asked us when we will be back on the road again, when we will be touring the U.S., Japan, Australia and so on and so on... Thank you for all the requests! Unfortunately I can only say that there will only be one tour this year and a few selected shows. The tour will be in Denmark and it will be launched actually next month. Dates can be found at the myspace.com/mnemic site and mnemic.com." More...

Guitarist Mircea Gabriel Eftemie of the Danish modern metallers MNEMIC has issued the following update:
"We have kept rather quiet since the Danish Metal Awards, which was our last performance for the year 2007, and now it's about time for an update from the cold shores of the north to let all of you know that all is groovy and peachy at the MNEMIC camp."
"2007 was a great year for us. We started touring throughout the United States and Canada, went to Europe, did the UK, Scotland, Holland, Germany, France, Czech Republic, Austria, Portugal, Hungary, Slovenia, Russia and of course Denmark. Headlined the Headbanger's Ball tour, supported DEFTONES, and played with none other than METALLICA! We are more than grateful and honored to have experienced these great tours." More...

SMAXONE's debut album, "Regression", was released in August 2005 via Scarlet Records.
Regarding the band's musical direction, a press release previously stated, "The basic idea of SMAXONE is to keep the music as personal and original as possible. The clean and unique voice of Claus mixed with the screaming of Michael creates a varied and extremely interesting sound: from hard grinding metal riffs to the more atmospheric rock-ballad approach, with modern elements as electronic samples, breakbeats and synthesizers. Let's say that FEAR FACTORY, Devin Townsend and FAITH NO MORE got a meeting in Denmark!"
SMAXONE recording lineup:
Claus Lillelund - Clean Vocals

"We are beyond stoked, beyond surprised, and MORE than happy to be a part of the METALLICA gig in Aarhus, Denmark!! It's definitely a dream come true for all of us," writes in MNEMIC guitarist Mircea. "It simply CAN NOT get any bigger for us to say the words, 'Yeah, we've opened up for Metallica!' It's definitely a nice tap on the shoulder for all the hard work and hard moments MNEMIC have gone through. We would especially like to thank Lars and the mighty Metallica for choosing MNEMIC for this fine day of pure Danish Metal. We will of course make this day extra special, extra heavy, and extra metal!"
Metallica drummer Lars Ulrich issued an Easter greeting in Danish (translated text follows) announcing that Metallica had "decided to make our Aarhus day to be of a Danish enterprise... drumroll please... We have actually asked the awesome Danish bands Volbeat and MNEMIC to be a part of the event on the 13th of July, and they both freakin' said, 'Yes please!' so, game on and all the good stuff! It's going to be a pure Danish enterprise. Well, yeah, fuck it, 'tallica is only one-fourth Danish, but let us celebrate our Danish-ness, where and whenever we can, especially when we aren't home that much. With other words, here is the short version: I am happy to be able to announce that Volbeat and MNEMIC will make the Metallica show in Aarhus the 13th of July as Danish as possible."
MNEMIC recently completed a European tour with the Deftones in support of their latest album, Passenger, which was praised by Outburn Magazine for its "energetic execution, dazzling chops, polyrhythmic pummeling, and soaring melodic anthems."

MNEMIC also completed a video for "Meaningless" with Revolver Film director Patric Ullaeus, which has aired on MTV2's Headbangers Ball and can be viewed here.
