Latest Carnifex News
Below is our complete Carnifex news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Carnifex completed work on a new album earlier this Fall, which is scheduled for release in early 2014. Now vocalist Scott Lewis comments on the upcoming album:
"One question I kept asking myself during the writing process of the new album was; How do we make a Carnifex album that shows our growth as musicians and progress as artists but still remains 'Carnifex.'
"I believe this album represents the answer to that question. We pushed ourselves further than any previous album. We drew on influences never drawn from in the past. We incorporated elements of different genres we never touched on in previous albums.
"This album is the culmination of nearly 9 years of writing music as Carnifex. This is the album Carnifex was always meant to write."
Further details on the title and release date will be announced as they are made available.
San Diego, CA Carnifex signed to Nuclear Blast during the summer, and now the band has finished recording a new album at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL with producer Mark Lewis.
"After a year and half of writing and five weeks in the studio, we are very excited that tracking for the new album is complete,” commented vocalist Scott Lewis. “Not only is this the best production we have ever had, the depth in each song is beyond anything we have previously written. We combined the best parts of our previous albums with elements and influences we only touched on in the past. This is the album Carnifex was always meant to write."
On recently signing to Nuclear Blast Lewis continues: “Signing with Nuclear Blast is a career defining moment for Carnifex. To be aligned with the largest Metal label on earth is a true honor. This world-wide deal signals a turning point for us as a band and individuals. Together with Nuclear Blast you will see Carnifex like you have never seen us before. Prepare yourself for an album that crushes any and all expectations. An album that will stand as the definitive mark for modern Metal.”
Carnifex's Nuclear Blast Records debut will also introduce new lead guitarist and longtime friend of the band, Jordan Lockrey. A release is tentatively scheduled for some time in the first quarter of 2014.
Carnifex's latest album, "Until I Feel Nothing," was produced by Tim Lambesis (As I Lay Dying) and was released on October 25th, 2011.
After going on hiatus last year, California death metal outfit Carnifex has announced a new deal with heavy-metal institution Nuclear Blast.
“Signing with Nuclear Blast is a career defining moment for Carnifex,” commented frontman Scott Lewis. “To be aligned with the largest metal label on earth is a true honor. This world-wide deal signals a turning point for us as a band and individuals. Together with Nuclear Blast you will see Carnifex like you have never seen us before. Prepare yourself for an album that crushes any and all expectations. An album that will stand as the definitive mark for modern metal.”
Carnifex will begin recording a Nuclear Blast debut this July at Audio Hammer Studios in Sanford, FL with metal producer Mark Lewis (Arsis, The Black Dahlia Murder, Whitechapel. DevilDriver). Expect a release tentatively sometime in the first quarter of 2014.
Carnifex also welcomes longtime friend of the band Jordan Lockrey as new lead guitarist. You can catch the band live on the Impericon Never Say Die Tour: More...
Scott Ian Lewis of Carnifex has issued the following announcement about the band deciding to go on hiatus:
"Fans and Friends, first and for most, a sincere thank you is in order to our fans and friends across the world. Without your support and passion, we are nothing.
"As of now, Carnifex is in a state of suspended animation. The reasons for this are many and complicated. Let me be clear in saying that Shawn, Cory, Ryan, Fred and I (Scott) are all still members of Carnifex. Let me also be clear in saying that although the future is very uncertain, I can say with optimism, that this is not farewell, but rather, until we meet again.
"Carnifex is now retreating into the obscurity we once came from. Be certain that us as individuals and as band mates have a true love for this band. Our desire to create our brand of art and music has never been about trends or money. These things will not decide our future.
"We invite you to join us live, for the last time in the foreseeable future. We will be making these select dates as memorable as possible and look forward to seeing you there."

The organizers of Extremefest have now issued the following announcement about confirming Forgotten Tomb and Ultrawurscht:
"Forgotten Tomb been around since 1999 and the Italians have caused quite a stir in the black and dark metal underground! 'Songs To Leave' (2002) or 'Love`s Burial Ground' (2004) are rightfully considered milestones of melancholic dark metal that the fourpiece infuses with doom and black metal elements. In 2011, Forgotten Tomb released their most recent effort 'Under Saturn Retrograde' and fans can look forward to one of the rare appearances of the Italians at the Austrian and German editions of Extremefest!
"It´s all about the sausage with Bavarian / Austrian act Ultrawurscht! Their highly explosive mixture of death metal, grind and hardcore – or simply 'Wurschtcore' – will one day conquer the world, and if you had the chance to check out albums such as 'Cheese Ass Built My Hot Dog' you`ll agree! Mixing metal and sausages should be declared a form of art anyway, so slap some wieners on the grill before checking out Ultrawurscht`s exclusive set at the Austrian edition of the Extremefest 2012!"

With contributions from numerous musical genres and countries, this is truly a multi-ethnic collector’s cookbook. Readers will be presented with recipes ranging from appetizers to full course meals and desserts.
"Pure Metal is more than a cookbook: it is also a fan collectible as it includes short informative biographies, high quality pictures of the artists (mostly in a kitchen setting)), pictures of the food and, in some cases, a quote about why the recipe or food is important to the contributor. Readers and fans will gain an insider’s view into the lifestyle and habits of the artists and bands; a sort of backstage pass or behind-the-scenes look into the lives of their favorite artists far from the stage and the studio."
