Pit Stories: Spandex Superhero Invasion
We've been seeking bands and fans everywhere to get their memorable mosh pit stories, and this week's story about a sudden invasion of blue spandex superheroes comes courtesy of Florida's Catalepsy.
This “pit story” took place about a year ago when we were in Myrtle Beach, SC. We were playing this tiny dive bar right on the beach in some random basement. We were just finishing up line check and were about to start our set when we we came to the sudden realization that there was literally no one inside the venue.
Bummed out but still needing our pay, we decided to fight the good fight and play anyways. After about 20 seconds into our opening song, a couple of kids started to file in wearing these blue, Spiderman like body suits. By the end of the second song, the venue was completely packed full of matching blue spandex superheroes. What that all was about, well, the world may never know. Quite the experience...

NEMHF 2009 Adds Third Stage
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Fight Breaks Out at Oceano Show; Video Available
Chicago deathcore metal band, OCEANO, are quickly gaining notoriety as the angriest band on the planet and now, it seems, their anger is starting to rub off onto their fans.
At the band's recent gig on December 10th at the Chenga 57 indoor skate park in Lorain, Ohio, the aptly-titled "Seasons Beatings" tour took a much more literal meaning. OCEANO got the crowd so worked up that a full-scale brawl erupted during the band's set, even forcing front-man ADAM WARREN to stop the band mid-song.
"Everyone was moshing and getting a little crazy - just like always;" says the former backyard wrestler. "There were these kids around the pit that kept getting hit and didn't like it too much, so they went after the kids who were hitting them. It kept going back and forth and more and more kids were getting involved each time." More...
Catalepsy Announces Lineup Changes
Catalepsy recently added a second vocalist, Rob Conover to their line-up. The band comments: "Our album was tracked with a high and low scream layered throughout most of the abum and we feel like we could never quite achieve that sound live, so we added a second vocalist and it sounds devastating!"
Meanwhile, the band also recently parted ways with guitar player Matt Sutton. "We felt like things just weren't working out but we wish him the best of luck in whatever future endeavors he has. We have a friend, Justin Haile, filling in on third guitar for this upcoming tour! So come to our shows and say whats up!"
