Background

Evergrey is a progressive metal band from Gothenburg, Sweden. The band was founded in 1995 and released its debut album The Dark Discovery in 1998. Evergrey's lyrics have always been of the darker sort, and the same can be said of the band's imagery. While The Dark Discovery dealt with a variety of ideas, many later albums have been concept albums, dealing with issues like self-reformation (Recreation Day), paranoia, alien abduction (In Search of Truth), child abuse, cults and religion (The Inner Circle).

Evergrey Inks Deal With AFM Records

AFM Records proudly announces the signing of Swedish metal act Evergrey, which is led by front man Tom S. Englund. Currently Evergrey is working on a brand new studio album to be released later this year. The band issued the following statement:

"I am sitting here in what feels like the black heart of distorted guitars and heavy drums trying to sort what material to be chosen for the new Evergrey album that will be brought to you by our new record label AFM!

"While the music might be the most contemplated and dark pieces we have written -and while the sheer amount of music we have the pleasure to choose from is more than ever, we are super psyched and pleased to have chosen a label that believes in Evergrey!

"AFM are certain that we have a lot more to contribute to the world of music and we can promise you that they are right. On top of that it is about damn time that our fans get some new and fresh metal!

"While we at this moment are hindered to speak about the new members - this will be totally understandable when we announce it - they are known to some people and some might never have heard of them B U T we can tell you that they are as excited as the rest of us and have already brought in 50% of the material written so this album will be a 100% band effort! ProgPower USA XII: Kick-Off Day

For the long-running USA metal festival, ProgPower USA, metalheads typically have no problems driving or flying from all across the country. Where else can you see sixteen mostly international bands, all of whom are pushing their own abilities and the boundaries of metal, over a two-day period? Now in its twelfth year, ProgPower takes place in Atlanta, Georgia at the Center Stage venue. Run by Glenn Harveston, who is first and foremost a fan, the festival spans the days of Friday and Saturday, September 16th and 17th, but officially kicked off on Thursday. The Swedish band Evergrey also performed an all-acoustic show at The Loft on Wednesday.

The show lineup, as announced on ProgPowerUSA.com, is as follows:

Thursday - Powerglove, Vanden Plas, Evergrey
Friday - Creation's End, Darkwater, Voyager, Eldritch, Mob Rules, Ihsahn, Sanctuary
Saturday - Haken, While Heaven Wept, Red Circuit, Labyrinth, Forbidden, Therion

On Thursday morning, I had packed and left Nashville, TN, driving four hours to get down to Atlanta, which was further away than I thought. Upon reaching the venue, I was instantly impressed. Center Stage has air conditioning, several bar areas, a spacious interior, and seats as well as a pit area. By metal’s standards, this was the music venue equivalent of a Four Seasons hotel. I met with Swedish melodic metal kings Evergrey for a very entertaining interview before the show. Immediately after, I also met with the well-spoken and well-trained video-game metal iconoclasts, Powerglove.

During sound check, the speakers in the lobby were playing what was coming off of the sound board, which meant that guests checking in or buying tickets were treated to Evergrey and Vanden Plas warming up. The Evergrey sneak preview was definitely notable, because the band was warming up material from their album, “In Search of Truth,” which they were to play through from start to finish in their first set. This was the first time they had done such a set, and as I learned in the interview, not expected to be done again in the near future. More...

Evergrey Kicking Off North American Tour

Swedish metallers Evergrey are officially kicking off their North American tour today in Atlanta, GA as part of the Prog Power Festival. Following their Prog Power performance, Evergrey will be criss-crossing North America through October 12th with support coming from The Abscense, Sabaton, and Powerglove.

Drummer Hans Van Dahl is ready to take on North America and commented, "Man, It´s been quite a while since Evergrey polluted the North American ears last time! Now we´re out with a new record called 'GLORIOUS COLLISION' and all I can tell you that we're super psyched to crush every venue on this North American collision tour down to the ground"

Guitarist and vocalist Tom Englund also commented on the band's lineup changes, "The most recent Evergrey line-up had reached a point where we no longer had fun as a group," he confesses, adding: "So we went our separate ways to save our friendship. There were no angry words, and we're still friends privately. In the beginning, we weren't sure whether we'd be able to write a new album without the wealth of experience that the previous line-up brought in. But after [keyboardist] Rikard and I had composed a full three numbers during the first week, we felt that was a real coup."

"This may sound like a contradiction in view of our personnel situation," said Tom, "but Rikard and I have allowed more influences on 'Glorious Collision' than ever before. Some elements on 'Glorious Collision' are classic rock, based on a metal format; sometimes the tracks are quiet and haunting, sometimes wild, demanding and gripping."

You can catch Evergrey live on the following dates: More...

Neverborne Reveals New Album Details

London-based melodic death metallers Neverborne have set "Self Destruct Syndrome" as the title to their forthcoming debut full length album, tentatively due out December 2011.

The CD features guest appearances by Henrik Danhage (DEATHDESTRUCTION, ex-EVERGREY) and Antony Hämäläinen (NIGHTRAGE) and was recorded at Thin Ice Studios in Surrey England late 2010.

Commented the band: "We decided to re-enter Thin Ice Studios and to again enlist Karl Groom (HAMMERFALL, DRAGONFORCE) to produce the new album. We returned there earlier this year to finalise the mixes."

"In Am My Own," a limited edition bonus track from those sessions is now available for streaming on the band's Facebook page, while an album track "Embers To Ashes" can be found on the band's official MySpace page.

Evergrey To Play Entire "In Search Of Truth" Live

Swedish progressive metal act Evergrey have announced that they will be performing their 2001 concept album, "In Search Of Truth", in its entirety at the ProgPower USA XII kick-off show on September 15 in Atlanta, Georgia. Evergey vocalist Tom Englund commented by saying:

"Glenn (Harveston, ProgPower USA festival promoter) asked me for a special show,….what else is new as he always does… hrmpff. So to pay tribute to one of our most loved albums, we decided to celebrate the tenth anniversary of 'In Search Of Truth' by playing the whole damned thing. This will be an exclusive for Atlanta and the ProgPower USA show alone.

"One thing I do need to mention is that the backing tracks for the songs are long gone, BUT we will try to do it justice as well as we can.

"This is Tom signing out from the rehearsing room, trying to learn the damn string-skipping part of 'The Encounter'."
