Irish metallers Gama Bomb will be offering their new album "Tales From The Grave In Space" as a free download through Earache Records starting on November 5th. The band put together the following Q & A about the album to answer fan questions:
"Do you have questions? Frequently? About our new album? Well, here are the answers you never asked for, and we never wanted to give. We hope you're happy now.
"Q. In giving us your new album for free you are really spoiling us, but will there be a physical release of Tales from the Grave in Space? I like CDs and records and stuff. A. Yes, there will be! The plan is to release Tales... as a deluxe CD and vinyl in January 2010. The extra treat is that the album's physical release will include an EP, titled Half Cut, which will not be available for GB-approved download. Half Cut consists of five new, never-before-recorded tracks laid down especially for the EP. There'll also be an extra-special boxed set at some point with CDs, vinyl, a t-shirt and art and all that stuff.
"Q. How come your record label are up for giving your album, which cost money to record, away for free? A. Well, it's because they're undertaking an experiment. Our label, Earache Records, are known for trying out different things, and this to them is a new way of releasing that will hopefully boost interest in the band and lead to more profit for them when they wheel out our physical release and all that jazz. To us, it's about the music reaching more potential fans and raising our profile, so we've got twin goals that don't conflict too much. Get it?
"Q. What is the fastest land mammal? A. The Cheetah. More...

Ireland's Gama Bomb has issued the following recording update:
"We're two weeks into our four week recording session for Tales from the Grave in Space in rural Suffolk, a place which is comparable to the surface of Mars in terms of things to do and see, and all is going well. Drums for the album are now complete and sound wicked, and our barn house is ringing day and night with the sound of Domo's solos and my attempts at vocal exercises. Scott Atkins is working his butt off at the mixing desk and we've been drinking Mojitos.
"One night we walked to a pub in the middle of nowhere and walked back down the country road in the dark, and nearly got killed by a few cars on the way. Imagine how famous we'd have been then. Damn."
Last Ninjas Unite
New Eliminators of Atlantis B.C
Escape From Scarecrow Mountain
Return To Blood Castle
We Respect You
"We have been drinking: Mojitos, Sports Bastard (Amaretto, fake Malibu and Ginger Beer), Boheme beer, Carlsberg, Red Wine, Bacardi, J&B Whiskey. Drinking doesn't make you cool, but it doesn't hurt your coolness, either.
"We have been listening to: Manilla Road, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Al Green, Jackie Wilson, Metal Church, Louis Jordan, loads of Jethro Tull."
As soon as the new Gama Bomb album is complete, it will be available for free download on November 5th, including the artwork. More...
Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB recently played at the notorious Hellfest in France as part of their Summer festival run, with cameras there to capture the performance.
GAMA BOMB vocalist PHILLY BYRNE comments, "Hellfest was probably the most fun I've ever had at a festival or show, seriously. The gig was 20 times bigger and better than I'd hoped, and I spent the rest of the day sitting in the sun drinking. They had this beer called Wolf Balls, and they gave us a bottle of Jack Daniel's, and this other stuff that tasted like the water in a toothbrush mug. We drank it anyway. At one point the guy from Papa Roach was at the bar beside me. I couldn't stop laughing." More...
Irish thrashers, GAMA BOMB, recently supported reunited thrash metal band, LAWNMOWER DETH, at a special show in Milton Keynes, with LAWNMOWER DETH preparing for their appearance at the Download festival in the UK, and GAMA BOMB preparing for their Summer appearances at Hellfest in France, and Tuska Open Air in Finland.
GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE comments on the gig:
"Playing with Lawnmower Deth was a bizarre but really fun experience. It was like a normal metal gig had been injected with silly sauce. When you play to those old-school crowds they don't need to get to know you; they just accept you immediately. It was class." More...
Relapse Records has issued the following announcement about Evile and Gama Bomb appearing on a radio show:
"English thrashers Evile and Irish label-mates and fellow thrashers Gama Bomb featured in the notorious BBC Radio 1 Rock Show presented by Daniel P. Carter on Tuesday. The two bands were pitted against each other in a contest of wits called ‘Hammer's Hammer’ (of no relation to Timmy Mallet's ‘Mallet's Mallet’) recorded at the recent Hammerfest festival in Prestatyn, Wales. It was a closely fought contest between Philly Byrne (GAMA BOMB) and Ol Drake(EVILE) which actually took place in a children's playground ball pit.
"Listen back to the show and see who won here. Evile recently entered the studio to record the yet-to-be-titled follow-up album to their 2007 debut, Enter the Grave. The new album is being produced
by Russ Russell (NAPALM DEATH, DIMMU BORGIR) and is set for release later this year." More...
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb, who recently completed a tour of Europe with Overkill and Exodus on the Killfest tour, have announced a one-off special show on June 14th supporting Canadian band Anvil in Dublin.
Gama Bomb vocalist Philly Byrne issued the following statement about the show:
"We're pretty stoked to be supporting Anvil in Dublin. It's not only a good chance to play to people who'd never normally come to the dank, dark places we play in, but it's also going to be cool to share the stage with real-life thrash metal comeback kids. Plus it's in Dublin, which is our natural habitat. Hopefully we can show them the best bars in town, and the best gutters to lie in afterward."
Gama Bomb are also confirmed for the following tour dates: More...
Lawnmower Deth has issued the following announcement about a warm up show with Gama Bomb, Virus, and Metal Messiah:
"As some of you keen eyed thrash fans have noticed, we are indeed doing a warm up gig on Friday 5th June at the Pitz in Milton Keynes.
"Joining us to headline the night will be new thrash masters Gama Bomb which we are well chuffed about (thanks lads.. looking forward to it) Also chuffed with the fact that our old buddies from the 80'/90' Virus will also be playing.
"And to kick the evening off are yet another bunch of UK thrashers from times of old.. Metal Messiah
"We can't wait !.. back to the Pitz, home of much fishdancing in days gone by. Tickets can be bought here."
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb have issued the following update from the road about their tour alongside Overkill and Exodus:
"Hello from the gutter! Our feet haven't touched the ground since this tour started: we spent last night trading Irish jokes with Bobby Blitz and drinking with Exodus while the barmaids free-poured Irish whiskey for us, and that's pretty much what every night's been like. Though it's a short tour, Killfest is one of the best packages to hit the road in years: Overkill, Exodus and Torture Squad have been ripping every night and we've seen some of the biggest bangers in Europe come out to see us.
"It's a great learning experience to watch such legends in close quarters and to get to hang out with them. When we get home we're going to be five times the band we were when we left; we're writing lyrics and riffs on the road and will have some new material ready when we get back. That is, if these guys don't drink us to death before then."
Canadian heavy metal band, CAULDRON, recently made their first ever trip to the UK, to support ANVIL at a top-secret premiere for the new documentary movie, "Anvil! The Story of Anvil." CAULDRON followed that show with a gig with label mates GAMA BOMB the following night.
CAULDRON vocalist/bassist JASON DECAY comments on the band's trip:
"It was a pretty cool last minute trip to the birthplace of heavy metal. We played a couple shows, one with our buds ANVIL in front of a packed Shepherd's Bush Empire crowd of unsuspecting movie-goers, and another nice little sweaty club gig with GAMA BOMB. Other than that and in between food poisonings, we just did a slew of interviews, photos and beverages to consume to coincide with the Euro release of 'CHAINED TO THE NITE' in April." More...

No stranger to speaking his mind on issues he believes in (like his band's campaign to "stamp out inferior metal"), GAMMA BOMB frontman Philly Byrne spoke out recently in favor of downloading on MTV Headbangers Blog. Byrne's comments mark the first time that an artist has written Headbangers Blog to support downloading in the face of a vocal majority of artists who do not condone it.
The outspoken GAMA BOMB frontman goes onto explaining why downloading is such a vital part of the experience of "the music fan of the 21st century" and why artists shouldn't be completely against it, either:
"Reading MUDVAYNE's Chad Gray's blog on illegal downloading on this site, I couldn't help feeling like I'd heard his spiel about musicians getting shafted before. Chad's analogy of a man (read: band) making a fine wooden chair (read: record), only to have the chair stolen (read: downloaded) out from under him, was a striking one, but it's an oversimplification.
If a musician's job was as simple as "make disc, sell disc, win," record companies wouldn't have latched onto the "360 degree record contract" (that's the one where they get a cut of t-shirt sales, licensing and live fees, kids) more than 10 years ago. Nor would they have released CDs, which allowed people to get their hands on their masters in movable file form back in the mid-'80s. That was an admission that music business models now mean more than just money from wax.
Chad made a good point when he mentioned Radiohead's "honesty box" experiment. When one of the world's most popular bands' fans will only pay £3 ($5) on average for their album, what's the use in fighting people who want your niche, indie label, corner-genre product for free? As long as they hit the shows and buy the coasters, who cares? Let them have it!"
As previously reported, Metal Church has had to pull out of their European trek with Overkill due to guitarist Kurdt Vanderhoof suffering from back problems. However European thrash fans will not be disapointed as filling the shoes of Metal Church will be thrash metal legends Exodus. Also on the bill will be young, Irish thrashers Gama Bomb and Torture Squad.
The tour dates are as follows:
February 20 - UK London @ Carling Islington Academy
February 21 - NL Uden @ De Pul
February 22 - NL Enschede @ Atak
February 23 - GER Aschaffenburg @ Colos Saal
February 24 - GER Hamburg @ Markthalle

Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB recently spent over a month storming their way across Europe on the Thrashing Like A Maniac tour along with LA shredders BONDED BY BLOOD and UK openers SWORN AMONGST.
The bands are now home and have had some time to recover and to look back at their recent journey.
GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE comments on the tour:
"We've finally reached the end of our European tour with Bonded By Blood and Sworn Amongst, which took in 34 shows in 11 countries, 40,000 miles on the clock in a tourbus with 18 people aboard, chugging through something like 180 litres of diesel over the course of five weeks and five days. Along the way there were torn ligaments, damaged vocal chords, a suspected broken ass bone, about 12 cases of the common cold, a few outbreaks of alcohol poisoning and more bruises, cuts, scrapes and mysterious injuries than we care to count.
"We played in two haunted clubs, complete with a ghost that didn't want us to use the shower, a former Greek restaurant with murals of the Parthenon, a biker-controlled backstreet bar, a black metal meeting house, a classic car workshop, a converted slaughterhouse, dockside pubs, a couple of youth clubs, drug dens, shit holes and palaces too. We're not clear on how many guitar strings we used, but it pales in comparison to the amount of beers we drank. Also, we have no idea how many people we played to, but it was excellent all the same, as we're starting to meet people who wear our shirts to the show. Nice."

GAMA BOMB will be back on tour in Europe in 2009, but you can keep yourself thrashing through the Winter with the band's Earache Records debut album, "Citizen Brain," available now. More...
For the past few weeks, Irish thrashers Gama Bomb have been making their way across Europe on the Thrashing Like A Maniac tour with LA shredders Bonded By Blood and UK support act Sworn Amongst, spreading the good word of thrash wherever they go.
The band comments on the tour so far: "So here we are, two weeks into our five-week European tour. We've already come so far and done so much we can't do it justice in a simple, mortal blog, but here goes: we started in Berlin, where we accidentally played to a neo-Nazi biker gang, then we wound through Europe, finding ourselves in the Italian wilderness, high in the Alps and sweltering at the far end of Portugal along the way. It's been very, very hot so far, but we're now encountering a cooler, Northern European leg of the tour."
Along with a night of thrash metal music, Gama Bomb is offering something else to the fans who attend the shows: redemption. Gama Bomb recently announced their Stamp Out Inferior Metal campaign. At each show of the 10,000-mile, eleven-country Thrashing Like A Maniac European tour, Gama Bomb invites and encourages you to bring along the worst of your music collections - the embarrassing, the awkward and the downright rubbish CDs, records and merchandise hidden amongst your better purchases - and to collect them together so both you and Gama Bomb can do what should have been done long ago - ritually shred, stamp and smash the living hell out of them! Bring them to a show, whereupon they will be ceremoniously smashed, stamped on, frisbee'd and generally destroyed as part of the set, live onstage. More...
