British thrash metal veterans Onslaught has announced that they will be embarking on a headlining tour of their native United Kingdom this September, where they will be joined by Irish thrashers Gama Bomb, as well as Fallen Fate.
"However you think of it, it's gonna be an historic tour - a Barrage of the finest British and Irish thrash," says Onslaught's Sy Keeler.
"We think it's great that we'll finally get to tour with these guys," adds Gama Bomb frontman Philly Byrne. "It'll be like when people take their old and infirm family members on holiday, but a metal holiday."
The tour dates are as follows: More...
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb are currently writing new material for their as-yet-untitled new album. The follow-up to 2009's "Tales From The Grave in Space" (reviewed here) will be Gama Bomb's fourth album and is tentatively due to be released early next year.
Frontman Philly Byrne comments:
"We're about to enter a studio in central Dublin to work on demos for our new album, which we're hoping to release in early 2012. In terms of songwriting, we're writing much 'tougher' or meaner songs now. We want to make music that street gangs could listen to before a fight, songs you can sharpen a switchblade to. I've been looking a lot to Phil Lynott for inspiration, which can never be a bad thing. He's always been a big inspiration for us, even if you can't always hear it.
"Mind you, we're also about everything from our history of underage drinking and theoretical physics to drag racing and (of course) cannibalism, so there's no knowing where this one is going to take us. We're hopefully going to record here in Ireland and we'll pull no punches on either the speed of the riffs or the attitude of the songwriting. That's the only plan right now."
Gama Bomb is also gearing up for a string of summer festival dates, but have had to bring in a temporary stand-in for lead guitarist Domo Dixon for the live shows due to a hand injury. The band have released the following statement: More...
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb are gearing up for a headlining U.K. tour, which kicks off on May 8th at the Underworld in London. The string of shows will be Gama Bomb's last before the band takes a break to work on the follow-up to the last album, "Tales From The Grave In Space."
Gama Bomb has issued the following update ahead of the tour:
"We're inside forty tons of squid-like riffs right now, writing war-hooks and brimey melodies to throw in the faces of children and pandas, but will set sail for England and Scotland in May. So come along and join our motley crew as we dock in various scurvy-riddled U.K. towns to play ship-shape new dinties from our upcoming haunted bagpipe, 'Tales From the Ghostly Galleon', and while you're at it you can taste some of the freshest catch of the day, served up on our very own first mate's guitar.
"Come May, we order ye to don your tri-cornered hat, suck a lime and get ready for a plank-walkin', bilge-swillin', rig-climbin' time with your five favourite hearties, the crew of the good ship Gama Bomb!"
The dates are as follows:
08 May - London, UK - The Underworld
09 May - Sheffield, UK - Corporation
10 May - Bristol, UK - The Croft
11 May - Reading, UK - Face Bar
12 May - Middlesbrough, UK - The Crown
13 May - Dundee, UK - Beat Generator
14 May - Derby, UK - The Old Bell
15 May - Manchester, UK - Witchwood
21 May - Mexico City, Mexico - Metal In The Forest Festival
Irish thrashers Gama Bomb have teamed up with the Rock 'n' Roll Wrestling Bash to be the show's new "Gore-chestra." Earache Records commented on the collaboration:
"The Rock 'n' Roll Wrestling Bash is an original and highly entertaining musical which blends Mexican wrestling with hard-hitting rock 'n' roll to create a truly unique show. While the luchadores perform their adrenaline-fuelled fights in the ring, a live band delivers a rocking, choreographed musical score to add to the drama and atmosphere. Gama Bomb will create and adapt their own songs for the show and will perform them live as the 'Gore-chestra' during the wrestling."
Gama Bomb's Philly Byrne comments: "Gama Bomb teaming up with Rock 'n' Roll Wrestling is kinda like old timey composers writing for the ballet: it just so happens that the best dance to express the music of our band involves breaking a chair over someone's head. We're looking forward to having a ton of fun with these shows and breaking some new ground in thrash metal. Gore-chestra. I like the sound of that."
Gama Bomb will perform with Rock 'n Roll Wrestling Bash at a number of events throughout the year, starting with a headlining show at the Paris Extreme Festival on March 24th. For more information about the Rock 'n' Roll Wrestling Bash, head to this location.
British thrashers Evile are currently touring North America with Overkill, Forbidden, Gama Bomb, and Bonded By Blood. The trek will continue until December 18th, coming to an end in Salt Lake City, Utah. Evile lead guitarist Ol Drake has issued the following update from the road:
"We're about two thirds through the three-month tour now and spirits are still high. Having a great time and playing some great shows. Shocked at how many fans we seem to have made after our previous rigorous North America schedules. Just crossed the border back into the USA, and now on our way to Detroit. I think I'll be playing 'OCP' with Gama Bomb tonight. Metal!"

GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE looks ahead to their first American tour:
"Touring in America is one of those things that every band, every musician or bedroom rockstar dreams about. Even bands from America don't get to tour America. We're lucky enough to get the chance and are really excited about it. If any tour we've ever undertaken can be described as a great adventure, this is it. It's going to be hard, but we're hard men. It's going to be girthy, but so are we. We'll wear the appropriate hats and drink the right liquors. You get the picture. More...
Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB are currently touring Europe on their "Graveyard Disturbance" headlining tour, with support from Danish metal band CROCELL.
As the tour nears its end, GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE updates:
"We've seen much bigger crowds and at least four contenders for the rowdiest shows ever so far. This has been the best European tour we've ever done and it's sharpening us up nicely for our stretch in the US. We're in Spain right now and urge any fans reading this to bring us some manchego and rioja." More...
Gama Bomb has issued the following open letter to U2 manager Paul McGuinness about his recent article on the music industry:
"U2’s manager Paul McGuinness’ recent article (‘How to save the music industry’ for GQ) is well-reasoned, well-informed and commendable in its aims – though it’s crazily short-sighted. It falls at the last hurdle when envisioning future solutions to the problems file sharing causes for the music industry, and is filled with logical blind-spots on the current state of the business. He’s got the numbers right, but the headspace is all wrong.
"To his credit Mr McGuinness is here wading into an argument that, as he notes, often involves untold abuse for those willing to stick their oar in. Furthermore, it’s one that doesn’t affect his untouchably profitable bread-and-butter, U2. So who am I to gainsay him?
"Last year my band Gama Bomb released their third album free of cost as a download with the permission of our record company, Earache Records. This, to my knowledge, makes us the first signed band ever to do so. We took this step because we personally consume music in this way and were aware our previous albums were largely being consumed as shared files. To release another CD in the traditional way seemed futile. More...

Also performing at the show will be Northern Irish thrashers Gama Bomb. Irish thrash act Gama Bomb have announced a free concert set to take place on July 12th at The Unicorn in London, U.K. Gama Bomb start off their U.K. tour with Sepultura on July 14th in Bristol.
Frontmant Philly Byrne commented by saying:
"In many ways a Gama Bomb gig is like a Ryanair flight. Firstly, our ‘passengers’ are subjected to a sonic barrage of babbled spoken word and mechanical screaming noises by a crew of foreign people who look bad in tight-fitting clothes – namely, us. Secondly, we’re constantly trying to force people to drink sub-standard liquor and buy shoddy mementos. Finally, our gigs often end with a bumpy landing and a round of applause that half the crowd don’t think is deserved. We’re looking forward to hanging out with old friends and meeting some new ones on this UK tour with Sepultura. Oh, and we’re going to start charging fans to use the toilet. Thanks for flying Gama Bomb, Europe’s number one budget thrash band."
Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB have just completed a short tour of their homeland with support from labelmates and Liverpool crossover thrashers SSS.
GAMA BOMB and SSS kicked off the "Back to the Fu-tour" last Thursday, making their way around the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland, before GAMA BOMB start the second leg of the tour in the UK in a couple of weeks.
GAMA BOMB frontman PHILLY BYRNE comments on the Irish shows:
"We finished our four date Irish tour on Sunday night, very late, and we're completely knackered. We managed to cheat the Icelandic volcano by touring at home at precisely the right moment - take that mother nature!"
"It was great fun, and much more successful than we ever expected it could be. Turns out people in Ireland love us! In Galway one girl fell off the top of a human pyramid and needed stitches on her head, we hope she's okay. We hope fans in the UK wear crash helmets for our upcoming shows." More...
Irish thrashers GAMA BOMB are sure to please their home fans with the confirmation of their first ever Irish tour. GAMA BOMB will be taking Liverpool thrashers and labelmates SSS on a run of shows in the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland this April.
GAMA BOMB frontman Philly Byrne comments:
"When we're busy gigging and recording everywhere else it's been easy to neglect where we come from, so we're finally going to give our patient Irish fans a chance to see us live without getting on a plane! We talked about having SSS on an Irish tour for a long time, so I'm delighted that it's finally happening. No joke, I think we're going to have a hilarious time with them."

British thrash metal group Evile has revealed some more details regarding the forthcoming memorial shows the band has announced in England. The band will be joined by Irish thrash metal band Gama Bomb as well as London based thrash metal group Mutant and Bristol based thrash outfit Seregon for the shows. The concerts are being held to remember the bands bass player Mike Alexander who tragically passed away while the band was on tour with Amon Amarth last month in Sweden. A huge raffle will be taking place at the shows which include signed items from big name metal bands and limited edition prizes. The shows will be held on December 7th, 2009 at Rio's in Leeds and December 8th, 2009 at the Underworld in London. Tickets are £8 in advance and can only be purchased at the venues or £10 on the door. All money made from the shows will be going towards the family of Mike Alexander. To view a list of the raffle prizes, you can head over to the Mike Alexander memorial website.
Evile lead guitarist Ol Drake comments: "These two nights are for all the friends and fans of Mike who haven't had a real chance to say goodbye, and also for us to hold something a lot more appropriate than any funeral could be. Mike wasn't religious, and his beliefs were solely based in music, so there is no better way to say goodbye. He lived for music and metal. We picked a few bands who Mike liked and we'll no doubt be playing a few covers on the night. We're holding a raffle with LOTS of items kindly donated by some amazing people and bands from around the world. Keep an eye on our sites for details of these - please come along and grab a raffle ticket - all money is going to the family."
Gama Bomb frontman Philly Byrne adds: "It's a real honour to play these shows for Mike. He was a star of a man and a brilliant friend, and it'll be great to do something for his family and friends. We're sure everyone will show their support for him at the shows."
