Manowar has checked in with the following statement about fans being turned away from a show in Chicago last night:
"We are sorry for those Manowarriors who made the trip from Detroit yesterday, but could not get into the show last night.
"We were not the promoters of these shows and therefore had no control over the events. We had asked the promoters in Chicago to support us in helping our fans from Detroit and they agreed, for which we applaud them.
"Due to the unforeseeable issues at Concord Music Hall a move to a smaller venue at shortest notice required some changes and made it impossible for the promoters to let everybody in as planned.
"We are glad a solution could be found on such short notice to play the show last night. We are very sorry that it was not possible for some of you to get in. More...
Manowar recently revealed the front cover of upcoming double album "Kings Of Metal MMXIV" (available below), an evolution of the original 1988 cover by Ken Kelly.
A new painting by Ken Kelly, featured on the back of the CD, will also be revealed soon. Manowar's Joey DeMaio comments:
"Ken has always been able to perfectly capture the essence of Manowar in his art. These covers, the two new ones and the one he created in 1988, visualize what Manowar, our music and our fans stand for! Just look at these paintings and the story they tell: People have tried to keep this warrior down, attacked him and attempted to destroy him. But he stood tall, no matter what! He fought for true metal in country after country. And he will continue the march and fight for his brothers and sisters all over the world, until all enemies of true metal have been crushed!"
"This collaboration has been an incredible experience once again," said Ken Kelly. "We didn't know where the journey would lead us. The art literally takes over and the music and the lyrics guide us. I truly believe the Manowar fans are going to love this series."

"Kings Of Metal MMXIV" is a completely new recording with many surprises, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the release of "Kings Of Metal" and Manowar's following world tour. The release is due out February 28th, 2014.
For "Kings Of Metal MMXIV," Manowar recorded timeless metal anthems with new arrangements and the band's signature "larger than life" sound. "Our fans have made us the 'Kings Of Metal,' and with this tribute to one of their favorite albums, we honor them and thank them for their unparalleled support and loyalty!" said Manowar vocalist Eric Adams.
The album will feature 9 main tracks packed with face-melting metal, plus 9 bonus tracks with over 40 minutes of additional music. "We have pushed man and machine to the maximum level to honor the original recordings that we all love, and to add new aspects and surprises that give this new album its own character," said bassist and producer Joey DeMaio. "The sound is again as massive and majestic as it has always been," he continued.
"Recording this album has been an amazing experience! After playing the songs so many times on tour, Donnie and I now had the opportunity to contribute our own sound and elements that the fans have come to love from our live performances," explained guitarist Karl Logan.
For the new narration on the spoken word track "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," Manowar joined forces with British actor Brian Blessed. For special effects of the highest level on "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV," sound effects specialist Hamilton Sterling was recruited. More...
Manowar posted a video clip of the mixing of the track "Kingdom Come MMXIV" from the upcoming "Kings Of Metal MMXIV" a newly recorded special version celebrating the 25th anniversary of Manowar's hit album "Kings Of Metal."
The new recordings will feature contributions from guitarist Karl Logan and drummer Donnie Hamzik, who, after having played these classic hymns many times live, will now have the opportunity to add to their legacy by including their own signature sound and performance. The new album will also feature movie and theater legend Brian Blessed ('Hamlet', 'Flash Gordon') narrating "The Warrior's Prayer MMXIV."
The release of "Kings Of Metal MMXIV" is scheduled for spring 2014 and will be followed by an anniversary tour that will see Manowar perform the full "Kings Of Metal MMXIV" album along with their other classic metal hymns in a completely new stage production.

Following movie and theater legend Brian Blessed (“Hamlet,” “Flash Gordon”) Manowar has now teamed up with another Hollywood veteran - sound designer Hamilton Sterling - for “The Warrior’s Prayer MMXIV” fromforthcoming new album “Kings Of Metal MMXIV.”
Brian Blessed had recorded the epic narration earlier this year and called it “a brilliant piece of writing” and the collaboration with Manowar “completely miraculous and life changing.”
“Brian did a sensational job! He didn’t just narrate the story. He performed it.” said Manowar bassist and producer Joey DeMaio. “When you listen to the narration, you feel like you are watching a short Hollywood movie. We instantly knew that we had to complement Brian’s outstanding performance with sound effects of the same quality. We searched for another Hollywood heavyweight, and Mr. Hamilton Sterling was the perfect choice!”
Hollywood veteran Hamilton Sterling is a sound effects specialist with numerous credits including action blockbusters like “The Dark Knight,” “Men In Black 3,” “War Of The Worlds,” and “Master And Commander: The Far Side of the World,” two of which won Oscars for Best Sound Editing. More...
Manowar (which was covered in today's Sunday Old School) has joined forces with British actor, author, and adventurer Brian Blessed for the spoken narration on "The Warrior’s Prayer" to appear on the upcoming re-recorded album "Kings Of Metal MMXIV."
"The Warrior’s Prayer" features a spoken narration that depicts a grandfather telling his grandson an epic fantasy story from his childhood. Manowar's Joey DeMaio comments:
"Brian is the perfect fit! Not only because he is a gifted screen and theater actor and has a majestic, thunderous voice. But also because he truly embodies the values of Manowar and heavy metal: He has an adventurous spirit and dares to do what he has set his mind on, no matter what. He has climbed the Mount Everest and has taken a trek to the North Pole! What else do I have to say? He may not have known it until he met us, but he is a true brother of metal!"
Brian Blessed has left lasting impressions in the cult movie "Flash Gordon," in Kenneth Branagh’s "Henry V" and in Kevin Costner’s "Robin Hood – Prince Of Thieves," among others.
"For me, the whole experience was completely miraculous and life changing. What a privilege to be part of such a divine, great team," said Brian Blessed after the recordings.
"Brian was spectacular! He didn’t just narrate the story. He performed it. He lived it! It was a magnificent spectacle that will bring the story of “The Warrior’s Prayer” to life in the listener’s mind," further commented Joey DeMaio.
For the recordings, Manowar returned to Birmingham, England, where 25 years ago the band recorded a 100 voice male choir for "The Crown And The Ring," another track featured on the "Kings Of Metal" album and to this day the signature ending of every Manowar show.
Some bands play heavy metal music. Others embody it in every possible way. Perhaps the best example of the latter would be a group who formed in Auburn, New York in 1979. A band by the name of Manowar. Fittingly enough for a group so devoted to heavy metal, the seeds of the band were sewn on the touring cycle for metal godfathers, Black Sabbath, who were supporting their album, “Heaven and Hell” at the time. Their bass tech and fireworks manager, Joey DeMaio got talking to former Dictators guitarist, Ross Friedman (AKA Ross the Boss,) who was then performing with Black Sabbath’s support group, Shakin’ Street. They became friends quickly and decided to form their own band, rounding out the lineup just after the tour by adding drummer Carl Canedy and DeMaio’s former classmate, Eric Adams on vocals. They began by performing covers before moving on to craft their own brand of metal, eventually crafting their first demo, "Demo 1981," their only recording with Canedy, who left soon after and was replaced by Donnie Hamzik, a native of Poland. He joined at a fortunate time, as Manowar soon signed their first record deal with Liberty Records, with whom they released their debut album, "Battle Hymns," in August of 1982. The eight song record was perhaps most notable for the inclusion of acting great, Orson Welles who performed the narration on the song, "Dark Avenger." They promoted the album by joining controversial hard rocker Ted Nugent on tour as his support act, but the partnership wasn’t the most fruitful and the young metal act soon arranged their own North American tour, as well as their first gigs in Europe, where they found particular favour in Germany and Great Britain. These tours proved too much for Hamzik, who decided to leave the group upon returning to America and Manowar soon found their third drummer in Scott Columbus.
Along with a new drummer, the band found themselves a new label after parting ways with Liberty. They signed with Megaforce Records for their North American releases and caused a stir on the other side of the Atlantic when they signed a European deal with Music For Nations in their own blood. They began recording their sophomore effort immediately afterwards, releasing an EP named, "Defender," (it’s title track featuring another collaboration with Orson Welles,) before releasing their second full length, "Into Glory Ride." The album was a big hit with metal fans the world over due to the more adventurous nature of the music and the group planned to tour extensively in support of the album, paying particular attention to the United Kingdom, though they would ultimately be forced to cancel their British shows. To make up for the disappointment they caused their English fans, they titled their third album, "Hail to England," which, as one might expect, gained them an even larger fan base in the title country. The album was recorded and mixed in under a week but was instantly hailed as their best work, going on to be regarded as the pinnacle of their "classic" lineup by many fans. They teamed up with Danish black metal pioneers, Mercyful Fate for a number of shows, where they were initially serving as support, before audience reaction bumped them up to the headline position.
